So Many Reclaimers! - Watching Your Takeoff and Landings | S2E2

We are back to watch some more player take off and landings in Star Citizen. This time in the city in the clouds, Orison the capital of Crusader and home of Crusader Industries.
We get a lot of Reclaimers this time around as players are out hunting for Hammerhead wreck sites. The Reclaimer, being as hard as it is to land can lead to some... very interesting landing and take off goofs from players.

One of the trickiest parts about pulling off a cinematic landing is having that gear out right before touch down. This can cause problems if you like to decouple land as vector landing requires the gear be out earlier so prox assist can help you hold your vector. I think it would be cool if you could activate this stronger prox assist manually even when the gear is not down, that way people can vector land and gear down right before touch down. Would be a neat thing to suggest to CIG, what do you think? Let me know! See you all in the next one! o7

nah - honestly, Im only here for the second time (nice video concept btw), but I think you're too harsh on the gaer part. Personally I think its way more cinematic to bring down the gear during the final approach. My personal rule of thumb is: gear down between 3-1.5km, VTOL, if the ship has one, at 1km, then vectoring in. It also depends on where I land and how thick the atmosphere is, so how fast I'm coming in. Looks way more professiunal - bringing down the gear in the hangar looks, like you forgot it until the last moment.

@HybridVAudio i think the C2 in the Invictus (blue) livery was me. And, believe it or not, I was PRACTICING my landings in 1st person LOL! kept hitting the tail the previous 2 times (before that one) and so i was so focused on trying to nose in as close as possible i didn't check side to side and clipped the side. i was streaming with my org and they saw the rough landing and I told them 'hybrid V is gonna dock me points for that!' 😂

​@Liopleurodon i agree, specifically for biggest ships where i like to prepare landing long before arriving to the hangar, aligning to its entrance to not have to do any turn near it, raise gear up in advance.

I think some pilots choose to land their ships a little further just to be closer to the elevators. I do it sometimes especially in those bigger hangars.

I intentionally land as close as possible to the elevator. In the Syulen I sometimes have the landing gear beside the NPC peeps. But especially at Orison where I get these massive hangers for my small ship.

Great video 😀 Tip for the reclaimer: don't set a limit to speed, keep it at maximum. When you are approaching lower your landing gear and enable VTOL and keep an eye on the altitude meter and ground / platforms. At 1,000 meters above target keep your nose at +5 degrees and slowly descent.

Not sure if you've found me landing the reclaimer or other ships, but fyi. I intentionally land offset (closer to the doors/elevators) on purpose! LOL, I don't want to run that far to exit the hanger... haha.

I'd say that Aurora at the end was a normal MR... the ES has no cargo clamb underneath wich this one had... so probably just an MR with the white skin and some balistics on it for whatever reason... the Aurora variants are: ES = essencial (base/'starter'/pathfinder (kinda a downgrade), MR = marque (light fighter/starter (ol' reliable), CL = clipper (light freight (double cargo)),LX = luxury (pathfinder (aledgedly with leather interior)), LN = legionnaire (the 'better' light fighter (bigger missile hardpoint))

Pretty sure it was an ES because only the default ES has that all shades of grey livery. Also the ES has a frame that carries up to 3 SCU that may now be visible even when empty. I love to fly it as it is the cheapest and least equipped ship in the verse. Even had a 600i pilot get all stuffy with me one time.

I used to hate doing coupled landings as I am used to vector landing decoupled but now I've been practicing landing coupled to smooth out that last few seconds and get the gear down right before touchdown. An interesting challenge to say the least.

Oh dear, I think that opening reclaimer clip might've been my family member... That happen to be recorded on an aussie server, by any chance? If so, it was their first time flying a reclaimer and they were panicking. I was standing inside the hangar bay on foot screensharing via discord to help em land. We did make it eventually.

Couple things on the reclaimers. Taking off straight up is no longer faster than nosing up. That first takeoff was hovering in place, not trying to go up as you said. Nosing up for takeoff works fine now. And Orison is popular because the quarter mil contract for salvaging hammerheads is only at yela.

that Reclaimer takeoff at 24:12 looks exactly how I take off from Orison. If that is me, the only time I'm not burning boost is when it's recharging. Still gonna take the notes on the takeoff though and try them next time.

Disagree on the gear down part. In actuality, most aircraft/spacecraft need to be configured for landing well in advance, for a stabilized approach. You can make it cinematic as well with gear down in advance. This isn't star wars, but based on some semblance of realism.

people tend to land closer to elevators to cut time running towards them, so I think taking point for not landing on the middle of the pad is a bit of a disscusion topic. but yeah, we should land on center cuz thats why they made it that way !!! still didn't got me :))) I will record myself landing and if there's somewhere i can send you the footage that will be awesome

To be fair to the first pilot, landing the Reclaimer in Orison’s heavy gravity and atmosphere is challenging for more. It requires VTOL and all power to thrusters to boost upwards just to control descent.

My favorite thing to do is to be cinematic when I fly my MSR, and it helps to know how that ship handles very well. One thing I've been practicing is trying to go in hangars backwards in first person so I can just zip right back out.

Unfortunately, VTOL is broken on the Reclaimer, where you'll need to keep gear down, in order to have some control and thrusters work better than when in VTOL.

As the pilot of the reclaimer that landed (video time 9:15) in hangar 13. Gear came out that early because for some reason vtol wasnt working. So i just used the gear down mode. To get vtol mode. And landed that far forward to not have to walk that far. Those hangars are bigger than they look. Plus the owner of the ship (org party) had to go. So we needed to hurry.

The "off center" landings in smaller ships should be fine imo. Most of them are plenty clear of the front hangar wall and putting an Aurora smack dab in the center of the pad just means you need to walk a longer distance for no reason.

Look at how ridiculously small that vertical hangar is for the Carrack at 23:32. There is so much wasted space on and around the port, surely CIG has to redesign or re-assign those cramped shoe box hangars at some point.

The sell prices seem to be the same in Orison as other places, however yes it is a far more convenient place to sell salvage. While you need to go to two separate places for RMC and CM, they are easy to move to and from, and if you salvage components, Cousin Crow's is just next to where you sell CM. For Reclaimers it is also a more forgiving place to land, since overshooting the landing does not mean creating a new crater. Also every time i tried to VTOL my Reclaimer it ignored it, so that may be why people don't try either.

Most Pilots hitting orison arent selling RMC but just construction materials which you sell at providence admin not cloudview tdd. You pick up the hammerhead clean up mission around yela which pays you $250k for popping the ship (instead of you paying 30k for the mission), the mission is constantly up so you can chain them. You can of course take it to grim hex but grim hex only has one capital hanger so it tends to back up a lot...hence orison.

I think that reliant was me. the reliant no longer goes into vertical mode when landing gear is put up so it has to be done manually.

Like a few of the commenters here I like to land as close to the elevators as I can - I don't want to wear my space-legs out :) When I saw Orison I wondered if my time was up but luckily none of those Reclaimers was me. Equally luckily you didn't catch me flying my 85x taxi at top speed in to a hangar - there were definitely two sets of skid marks in that hangar, but at least I could climb out of the cockpit straight in to the elevator... .

The reclaimer is such a cool ship, outside of having a giant claw it feels so good, tip for leaving atmo with it js to just hold space and vtol up. Lmao that first fail landing feels at home for me, the moment you lose control it’s over for the landing.

No matter the number of times ive landed my reclaimer, surrounded by construction materials outside the hangar, i still chuckle. You can tilt up and take off IF you point to 90 and boost. I typically do so around 83k km People use orison because of how much fuel the TS-2 uses on the reclaimer and how painfully slow other drives are, the danger of yela for the less daring as well as the wait, and yela asteroids being one of the best for getting mats with the hammerheads.

Shame, you should have seen my recent landing on GH in my Reclaimer, epic approach with a smooth tunring off the engines to come down fast enough. That was an epic one, unlike my very first one, which looked very similar to the first one in this video … which looks more and more like actually is MY landing … hmm, not 100% sure, I still got it aligned properly after ending upside down at the first touchdown. So it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE to get up with a Reclaimer once landing upside down as long as you have enough room to combine multiple vectors of thrust you still get up, but it's really tricky. BTW, seems like roughly a 45° angle for maximum altitude gain is the way to go. You want to combine multiple directions of thrust for maximum climb rate. VTOL or not seems not to matter that much in this regard. Just make sure to engage upward and forward thrust to the maximum.

The first time out in a reclaimer was one hella'va night out... by the time we got back the Captain pretty much nose dived it into the hanger (lost a main engine) which i didn't realise and yeah fell out and down the ship to land on the floor in a heap of a mess, crawled to the hospital 🤣

Most ppl that come to sell at Orison probably farmed the Hammerhead Salvage Mission thats arround Yela and are just there to sell CM at the Providence Platform but at the same time alota ppl rather land at GH since its "hard" to land at Orison but personaly id say it isnt as long as you turn on that much needed VTOL and take ya time landing.

For the reclaimer, you really shouldn't look for absolute center landing. No one wants to run half the length of the hangar. I ALWAYS pull up as close as I can to the elevators in every ship I fly.

By far the hardest ship to fly in the game. It's not good enough to stay in VTOL you must keep your finger on the boost or afterburner button just to gain some altitude. Same goes with landing. The Reclaimer is not meant to function in high gravity worlds. Yes I have taken off and landed in Lorville and ArcCorp. I treat the Reclaimer like a true helicopter. It must be balanced, I can make it move in the direction of tilt but you must always have your finger on the boost button until it overheats.

in The Reclaimer it is faster now to put the engine back and boost out of atmo then it is to just hold space, it can make is out of atmo without the bust as well when the engine are back, they fixed it a few patches ago. The Reclaimer at 6:04 is not struggling he is just to holding forward or anything, most likely AFK.
