had a severe kidney stone attack. I couldn't even hold water down. was in a shitload of pain. The nurse gave me an intravenous injection for the pain. I was so relieved to get rid of pain. Had kidney stone surgery two weeks later. The stone was a 15 mm

I have cancer and the chemo caused severe peripheral neuropathy in my feet legs and hands.. and as the cancer progresses the pain gets worse.. and they started me on morphine and the Dilaudid.. but I really haven't noticed that any of it works real good..

I was given this medication in emerg with a dislocated shoulder. Was the most severe pain I experienced and dilaudid worked quite well while I was waiting for the doctor to pop my shoulder back in. It didn't really 'kill' the pain but it did dull it which helped me manage the pain. I was given it IV and it hit within 30 seconds. I can see this drug being a lifesaver for those with acute severe pain.

Yeah how many MG did they inject you with?!... I heard it's as strong as Fentanyl!! For cancer patients and people with SEVERE PAIN!!... My buddies mom take sit for her back and cancer pain and she takes them every day with 4mg pills being the max you can get and I guess she accidentally took TWO of her 4mg pills and overdosed on it and almost died that's how STRONG they are!!... Anyways lol sorry to able on n on.. That's just a question tho..

I'm glad to read your comment. My father is in the hospital dying of cancer spread everywhere and suffering a broken back because of it and they have him on this drug. He's probably still in pain, but it's good to hear this works and at least lessens it.

Talking about oral use right? Cuz for 5mg u only need 1mg if it's IV. I think 8mg is a normal dose BUT, if you take the drug daily and tur tolerance gets up, then 24mg isn't too excessive. Just like you have 30mg for morphine starting dose but u could take a 200mg tablet too.@@nicholasfiltz4527

Brain tumor survivor. Steroid overdose by my dr survivor. 2 double hip replacement surgeries survivor. I take 12mg every day of my life. I couldn't function without it. I never get high I never crash from it. I've never taken more than prescribed and I've never ran out of medication. Taking for 22 years I'm now 44 years old. My advise is double check what your dr prescribes you. That way you to don't get overdosed and have to have double hip replacements. The steroid caused avascular necrosis which rotted the bones in my hips. It also rotted the bone my top teeth were connected to. Perfect teeth started falling out. Now I have no top teeth. Bottom teeth are perfect still.

Interesting, so that means tolerance doesn't really go up taking 12mg, in 2x 6mg daily? So only the euphoria etc is less then but still kills your pain effectively? Happy it works for u, shows again how wrong doctors are to generally disadvise to daily opioid use unless u have cancer or so. I started self medicating with opiates long ago cuz no dr at all wanted to help me, how sad/wrong is that?

I have stage 3 esophageal cancer, with a stent through the tumor.... 4mg , 1/ 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. I t doesn't relieve all the pain, how ever it helps me deal with the pain, as well as an upbeat attitude toward my upcoming mortality. The life span is short, during increased pain episodes 4 hours is an eternity ... I take it serious, I never took more than recommended dosage, nor have I ever taken it early.. Mind you I refused an esophogectomy because didn't n don't want to manipulate my body to that extreme in hopes to live a little longer. I definitely didn't want to be on high , high doses , clouding n numbing my last time on this earth in this broken body

Dude this made me so incredibly sad to read and I am very sorry. I really hope it works out for you in the end and it all goes away but we know how miracles sometimes don't always show themselves. I'm an opioid addict thankfully I'll be able to get off eventually. I want to it's justs really hard. I just got ahold of my first Dilaudid today and was curious about how strong it was which is why I'm here. They have you taking 1/2 doses every 4 hours? It seems like they would allow you more for what your going through. Idk if it means much to you but I will keep you in my thoughts, heart, and prayers. People don't deserve the hand they are dealt most of the time

I have been taking hydromorphone (tablets 2mg every 4 hours) since 2013. I take it along with a buprenorphine patch. I had to increase the dose 7 years ago after a spinal fusion. It’s been working well but still gives me substantial nausea even after all these years. I have to take ondansetron which helps with the nausea I still get. Overal effective for long term use for me.

Did absolutely nothing for the pain just made me almost pass out and dizzy. Changed to codeine plus tylenol didn't work either then Tramadol that one I called an ambulance I was having trouble breathing. Finally the hospital put me on morphine and the 11 fractures in my spine stopped hurting for a few hours at a time so it wasn't a sprained back like the first doctor thought.

Went to urgent care years ago for moderate to severe abdominal pain (which was never truly diagnosed, maybe gall bladder?) and they gave gave me dilaudid in an IV and within two to three minutes my throat started swelling up and I felt like there was a heavy weight on my chest and I had trouble breathing. Luckily my mother was in the room with me at that moment and I was able to indicate something was wrong before I passed out. My grandmother was allergic to morphine, so don't know if it was a similar allergic reaction or just a severe side effect. But never again. I always mention my bad reaction when asked about any possible allergies. Scared the shit out of me!

I bet, this is definately not just a side-effect, must be allergic & probably very rare. Even tho opioids can or will create breathing trouble if you take enough, it could never be this bad. I had a friend and he has like an allergy when he got shots against hepatitis or anything, and his heart rate dropped & he passed out. So since then only had this done under surveillance like in an ER.

Yep, I've had experience.. MVA on 5/16/2012, rolled multiple times and ended up compression fracturing my T9-10, multiple bruises, also damaged my sciatic nerve and another nerve as well. Was prescribed 4mg q4h as needed. I didn't like it, I was completely messed up and couldn't function on it. After 2 weeks I asked my Dr. to prescribe 5/325 Percocet instead as I was able to function better and not be so drowsy. Unfortunately, as a result of the accident I'm still dealing with a wonky back and neuropathic/sciatica pain.

For moderate pain, 2mg increments are very effective. The problem with many meds out there are the mg amounts. Pharmaceutical companies don't always process medicine like currency, so if you got a 10mg diladid for the first time, you'll love or hate it. 4mg is about the amount I like to go through my PR. Sometimes 8mg, some days 0mg. You just have to set your goals and mgs. Do you want to roll around on the couch and watch cartoons all day (not a bad plan) or do you want help to accomplish things like therapy/ exercise? The problem is that these drugs are creating polarizing opinions and it leaves a lot of us out that prefer a structured use of opioids.

dilaudid is a heavy opioid, it would put you to sleep. Percs are an lighter opioid and should NOT give you energy.

Some opiates can have stimulant effects on the user. In fact, it's quite common, I've tried dilaudid a few times using different ROA's and I did get a noticeable amount of energy from it. I find that once I have become dependant on opiates the stimulant properties are somewhat diminished compared to when I was opiate nieve....

It is not lethal if one takes it as prescribed. I take 8 mg pills every 4 to 6 hours prn-. Unfortunately it is not prescribed by most doctors since the 2016 CDC guidelines taken effect suggested by Melania trump to Donald whom had put this into law in order to close all pill mills while arresting doctors whom ever prescribe so as a result many patients and innocent people taking these and or other narcotics we're cut off cold turkey resulting in buying street drugs which proven itself very deadly. Dilladid is a great narcotic for those whom need it but again as prescribed as it is a very strong narcotic overall in the higher dosages which are from 2 mg to 8 mg today. I will say it works well for surgery pain as I have monthly on both my feet.
