They started me on Hydroxychloroquine; in 2016; after being finally diagnosed with SLE. He started me on 200 - then increased to 300 mg, my weight is 128, height 5’2”. I had subsequent dual meniscus surgeries and following these knee surgeries one of my calves, and all the way down to my foot turned black & blue. It improved over several months; but is still apparent visually somewhat on my calf. I had a subsequent meeting with my Rheumatologist, and he noticed this discoloration and told me “no more hydroxychloroquine”. So I asked what he was going to put me on, he told me he was thinking on it. Two or three weeks after this he started me on nabumetone; which seems to be helping very little. Is y there anything else I can take for my Lupus? I am a female of 58 years. Thank you - no eye issues

I suspect you should be on 400 mg HCQ daily. That seems to be a minimum ammount for significant efficacy - esp decrease risk or early death. You want to be certain to not be taking more than 10mg/kg/d. (I weigh less tan you so you sould be less than this dose. )

Are you saying it can cause renal failure?
@Katawitcher5 ай бұрын
you have to check yourself often as it can cause some kidney problems. my rheumatologist always checks my blood for the renal problems, its important to check your retina as well, it can cause hydroxychloquine retinopathy

The kidney is involved in clearance.

@@Katawitcher how often do you do blood tests? I just started using it for a month now and i started to feel dizzy my rheumatologist has not asked for any blood tests yet but gave me an appointment to see her after three months of using it.

@@rehaba5763 I have check up visits with my nurse every 6 months and with the actual doctor every year. that's just because I don't show any symptoms of relapse. if I have any problems I ring them or email and they set up an appointment for me. I did have nasty side effects from the drug- severe nausea and sudden headache but it goes away as soon as stomach starts to digest the drug. I always take it with food or soon after eating. I don't have may side effects but the stomach craps happens from time too time and its so severe that I have to lie down as my stomach is just hurting so much I cannot stand straight. I had dizziness but it was due to very low levels of vitamin b12. I had series of shots not long ago and now I'm much better. If you have dizziness and brain fog, problems with coordination and focusing it might be B12 deficiency. Check that up ans all the best
