I hate decluttering paper but my best tip is to sort the mail daily into either recycling or my FACE file.

Diane, with my nineteen year old son in music school in Nashville, I’m now an empty nester! But I have two dear sweet 9 year old neighbor boys who love to visit our “hygge” home which warms my heart! I made them some “Saturday Snack Baskets” and told them they are like Danish boys now! And they now bring their empty baskets over to be refilled on Saturday…. Love this video and perfect timing! I've started decluttering paper recipes, cookbooks I no longer use, magazines from 2016 yikes! Also clearing out recipes I've saved on the computer - keeping to the category kitchen 1st. Setting a timer is key to getting through all of this a bit at a time. It is helping me and I write it down what I want to do as it acts as my to do list or job jar - it's working as I get through the 'stuff' bit by bit and no longer overwhelming as it's out of my head. 😄 Over the weekend tidied up the panty and freezer and updated a list I keep to know what I have on hand which leads me to no waste, helps to plan out meals and no over buying what I don't need. Works for me, now readjusting to being organized and love the feeling of being on top of everything naturally. Taking baby steps and slowly getting to my goal. Watching your channel is motivating - thanks for the positive energy! That color blouse looks amazing on you, have a wonderful day!

Thank you Diane I badly needed this reminder as I have a small pile of paper clutter on my dining room table . I have a couple of very important letters among the pile of other paper .There is no excuse as I have a brief case for important documents and a plastic box for bills as well as a letter rack which could all be in the same room as my desk. Unfortunately since my husband's stroke the only space I have for my desk is in my bedroom . It has book shelves and drawers but I find I am not using the desk to use my laptop or for planning or writing since it has been there but I have put my yamaha keyboard on it . The worst thing is I am not even playing that these days . I really need to rethink things. One thing I have decided is to take the briecase and the important paperwork to the desk then file them tonight before getting into bed. I know that will take less than 10 minutes. So I am going to do that right now. Beautiful blouse by the way. I love that colour. xxxx Margaret in Cyprus

Thank you so much. I am seeing this for the 1st time from Chicago and it is very helpful. I have realized that I have many things that are a fantasy that they won't be used again and I was sad that I thought I just wouldn't have time to use them. I think I can look at it as an update, like the new maps etc.. That will be helpful . It will be harder to let go of the novels and kid's memorabilia as I like them. I will get a timer - thank you!

That color looks good on you. We always feel like we're drowning in paper. We keep two recycling bins going, both in places where we go through the mail and papers. Keeping the bins handy means we can dispose of papers quickly before we have a chance to lay them down where they become clutter.

Thanks for your encouragement Diane. I am in the process of going through greeting cards which I collect but then they get out of hand. I have donated some to an assisted living facility near me. They have a small gift shop for residents who can't go shopping. What I really need to do is get a timer to limit the time I spend on these tasks. Also, the apples from your garden are beautiful! I too collect greeting cards but my solution is send them to friends and family, since to get a piece of real mail is so exciting. As for cards sent to me, I tape favorite ones inside the cabinet doors in my kitchen and laundry room, giving me pleasure when ever I see them.

I had trouble decluttering 10 yr old text books, but I did it by just tossing them in the recycle bin without looking at them! Cookbooks - I pulled out the recipes and pictures I wanted, put the pages in a folder. Then I felt able to recycle the books. Took me quite a few hours to shred old paperwork, some I burnt in the bbq fire, some went into compost, the rest into recycling. I've managed to keep on top of it.
