Nope, you read correct. In some states like Cali, 91 is top grade because some of those in charge don't like people to have fast cars and 91 is the highest usually sold. Honestly though street racing is a larger issue there than many places. The highest commonly available in the US is 93. But also the system used to determine grade is different than some countries, namely European and I think Asian as well, giving a different # for the same actual grade.

26.4 MPG, that's incredible. I get the same kind of mileage with my 98 ES300 - it's a 3 liter V6 with 200hp, and the car weighs around 3500lbs. The best I've done was 27.5 and my range is only around 400 miles to a tank.

Weight only plays a small role in cornering. It involves more of grip which means thick sticky tires and lots of downforce pressing the car down hard on the road when turning fast. Also the center of gravity helps a lot as well.

I had been considering the Aston Martin Rapide but I'm now seriously thinking that the Bentley makes as much if not more sense. And don't tell me that people who buy cars like this don't care about gas mileage because we do, as much for the sheer, damn inconvenience of constantly hunting for gas stations and filling up! It makes us feel a tiny bit greener too....just a tiny bit!
@jordanbanko53477 жыл бұрын
Doug M Have you decided yet? I have a friend who currently has a Rapide (not the s) and he loves it. However he really doesn’t drive it more than 600 miles a year (kinda sad). I know the Bentley’s are nicer in depreciation when you put miles on them compared to Aston Martin’s lineup. Someone I recently met told me about how he had the opportunity to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo, GT2RS, Continental with the W12, and many more. He said out of all of them he would choose the Bentley. Perfect combination of sportiness and pure relaxation.
@dougm6596 жыл бұрын
I'm leaning towards the Bentley even more now, recently visited the Bentley factory in Crewe and met a guy from my home town of Glasgow who may be selling his GT V8. It's a 2012 V8 model with only 8k miles on it!!! In my mind that means I could get 95% of the new car for 50% of its new price!

Your are very correct, but for high performance brands like ferrari I think lightness is more for cornering ability and to make the engine a much better match for the vehicle

Bear in mind that US fuel is MON rated whereas EU fuel is RON and MON is around 8-10 points lower than RON, so 91 octane fuel in the States is equivalent to 98-99 RON Super unleaded in the UK and EU.

Laws of physics says the more weight/mass an object has, the more the energy is required to move it. So more mass equals worse acceleration, top speed, braking, fuel economy, and etc. That is why most automakers, especially performance brands like Ferrari, is trying to make their vehicles as light as possible. So weight is a factor in everything.

USA has MON 91 octane. Thats like 95RON in europe and aus. So it's not to bad. 98RON in europe is normal premium fuel. In some country's you have 100RON. and in germany some pumps even have 102RON. You really feel the differents betweens 98 and 102. When I'm at the nurburgring i always get 102. The engine response gets mutch better and it feels more happy to rev.

idk, but I have always known that to get maximum "mileage" from a car you have to go 80 kmph in top gear (or close) but even on the road the speed limits almost never want you to go at that optimum speed, its almost always 60 or 110 kmph...

I don't think the 19k matters at all. Bentley is making it to reduce the emissions on its fleet of cars. People that do not understand cars will say that it is "greener". The only logical reason to buy it over the W12 is the lower weight plus the beautiful sound.

US use (MON +RON)/2 number, most of the rest of the world use RON numbers only, which are typically 8 to 12 higher than MON for the same fuel. Which means that our numbers are about 6 higher than US for same fuel i.e. 97 fuel is 91 in us.

USA and Canada use AKI. That is an average of MON and RON. For example 87 MON & 95 RON = 91 AKI. Octane rating is all about premature detonation, not fuel quality. Higher than recommended rating doesn't guarantee anything.
