Just curious, if you have to replace VMWARE ESXI, because you can no longer download it for free and without a subscription, which Server Virtualization would you choose? Are any of the other options easier to migrate existing Virtual Machines off of VMware?

What a complete waste of time. Not only are you off-topics in the whole video, but the title is also inaccurate. The word you're looking for is a hypervisor, not VM.

How come desktop virtualization and virtualizing desktop is not the same 2:28 but then describe each as basically the same thing?
@noth60610 ай бұрын
This guy is throwing jargon out without either knowing what they really are or bothering to explain properly. Desktop virtualization is running a VM on your own PC or whatever, take a VM of a Linux server running as a VM on your windows PC. Virtualizing desktop is when you run your 'workstastation' as a VM or VM like thing on a server, and can access it regardless of what machine you are physically in front of, like the Citrix and similar systems used more often in the past. At least that's how it's been used where I've come across it, so quite different things really. The jargon is the issue since some people mix up the terminology and/or interchange them...

This hits way different now that VMWare is gonna get parceled out by Broadcom.. Win - HyperV. Type 1 hypervisor. Not even an argument. Mac- Fusion is all you got. 😊 Linux - KVM or QEMU.. All you need right there kids.

regarding VMware - I've heard they changed their pricing, and now it looks much less appealing. Came to that video to get some overview. Definitely I know/had a real world experience with all these products, but I thought maybe I'll find something new.

Since VMware isn't free anymore I have been searching for a replacement. I believe hyper-V has also been/or to be retired that Microsoft is going in a different direction. So now in 2024 who makes the best type 1 hypervisor that is still free? (Home lab running opnsense, windows game server, linux game server) Every where I look ESXI was the only real recommendation. Unless the others have made major advancement in the last year?
@AIJoeTest10 ай бұрын
Hyper-v isn't going anywhere. Just install server 2022 core and enable the hyper-v role via powershell. Hyper-v is the container foundation running across windows, server and Xbox. Hyper-v server which is a pre-configured windows server core iso that comes with the hyper-v role enabled by default has been discontinued not hyper-v itself. That's not going anywhere and is actively supported. Read full articles not headlines, although I will admit many people were not aware that hyper-v server was a seprate sku/product than the hyper-v platform itself

Can you make a detailed video about Citrix? I'm interested in hosting apps on a Windows Server VM but access them as virtualized apps from other "weak" machines too. Are there any vmware solution similar to to Citrix? I have vmware esxi (licenced) and I'd like to use something similar but native on the machine Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the comment! Will look at Citrix in future. Regarding other options, you could checkout VMware workstation, otherwise ESXi is great. Hope that helps.

Hey Emilio! It is a great video. Thanks for clarifying one of my biggest doubts I ever had. However, I need a small help. Let's say I am having a Windows 11 OS VM running, 1) How can I access it externally (i.e, for another laptop) 2) In order to accomplish the above task can I use Twingate? 3) Which method is Virtualizing can I use?
@TechWithEmilio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. 1) yes. Ensure rdp is enabled in the vm. 2) yes. 3) various options available, many of the options I spoke about in the video will be fine.

Since the implementation of the subscription model after the broadcom takeover. The cost for licencing is not justified anymore for small to medium sized businees. They remain using it while on the perpetual license but when it's time to change out the servers others paths will be examined. Vmware is dead!
