Can you make a video explaining the modal verbs (expressions?) in Russian? You have one explaining должен/надо but I would like to learn how to say should/might/probably/could etc as well.

So how do we know when бы should be before the verb and when after (in the second part of a hypothetical sentence)?

Both options are possible, and (as is common with word order) there's some flexibility. I should have perhaps said at the end that бы generally follows the verb, while it can precede the verb too - it doesn't need to be right next to the verb. Offord mentions in his advanced grammar that бы can follow a word that you want to emphasize, which can give a different order: Я бы этого не сделал = I wouldn't do that. Linguist A.A. Zalizniak points out several possibilities for one phrase ('He would flatly refuse it'): Он бы от этого отказался наотрез Он от этого бы отказался наотрез Он от этого отказался бы наотрез (3.1, rusgram.ru/Сослагательное_наклонение)
