I think this is something people overlook, but Purah outright says that the slate had the runes before the Calamity. It was being dormant for 100 years which caused them to become inactive. It's pure luck that almost all the runes were on the Great Plateau, either that or Ancient Shiekah/Royal Family foresight.

As usual, I have a couple things to add/explain: Originally, I went further into the possibility of the scene at 5:32 being of the journal entry where Mipha gets her father's blessing to pilot vah Ruta. One of the two figures in the background looks like Sargent Seggin, who we know was there when Mipha recounts the moment in her diary. She also mentioned that Muzu left partway through, and who do we not see in the trailer shot? Muzu. With that said, it was scrapped because 1. several Zora elders look the same and 2. I didn't consider the age difference until later on. So that's why I left that whole bit out, just thought I'd post it here at least. Also, since the "duel" between Link and Revali has no snowfall in the background, it might happen some time later from the shot I compared it to. Also I said Purah "restored" the runes on the slate. My bad, I meant that the existence of them was only known after the Great Calamity. That's all, have a great night!

Possibility: All the Towers shrunk back into the ground, after Link is sealed TOGETHER with the Sheikah Slate in the Shrine of Resurrection. Perhaps the Slate got reset as soon as the Resurrection Chamber got activated. Kinda like a Phone being reset, it lost almost all its functions and runes. Maybe the Shrines only reactivate those runes?

My theory of why Link is in Gerudo Town: Urbosa mentioned in her diary that Zelda has been avoiding Link by escaping into Gerudo Town. Urbosa tells Link a trick to get in. Link disguised himself as a vai, just like did 100 years later, and either took it off or it got torn off as an invasion was happening. Or since he's in his soldier armor, maybe he was wearing a knight helmet, and the Gerudo just took his word that he's a woman under the armor. Bonus theory about Link and the master sword: you assume that Link is obtaining it for the first time in the trailer. It could be that Link already had ownership of the master sword, and it is kept at korok forest for safe keeping. It is one of the keys to defeating the calamity after all. They were just picking it up in the trailer.

I agree with this. Mipha's diary states that Link already had the sword that seals the darkness well before the Champions were inaugurated. Her third diary entry begins: "Link came to visit the domain. It feels like forever since he was here last. He no longer resembles the child I first met. He is now an accomplished knight and keeper of the sword that seals the darkness. I am so proud. " It isn't until her seventh entry she mentions the Champion Inauguration.

Considering the shape the Master Sword was in when Link finally fell, I think that he kept it there so that it wouldn't lose any energy. Though it may just be that the Master Sword's condition is tied to the health of the person who was chosen by it.

Link could have always gotten the Master Sword at a young age just like Master Works claims, but it was still held at the base of the Great Deku tree whenever it wasnt 100% needed for idk spiritual purposes or something??? Maybe its very finicky and needs to be powered up by the great Deku tree for awhile before use otherwise it'll lose charge even faster than it does in game.

I think they are gonna explain it like that. Link even finding and then being able to pull the Master Sword was one of the reasons for the King to believe the fortune teller iirc. But usually the sword is returned to its place later on when its not needed anymore. In Age of Calamity, they can handwave it by having the King say something like "It's time you wield the sacred blade yada yada" and thats it.

Or it could simply be that wielding such a legendary blade when all Link was doing for a time was training as a Knight wasn’t seen as a good use of it’s power, and it was just safer to keep it in it’s pedestal under the protection of the Deku Tree for the time being. After he, Zelda and Impa recruit the other 4 Champions, Link and all the Champions along with Zelda go with him to retrieve the Master Sword, which solidifies his place among them as a Champion as well.

I personally love how they maintained the art style from Breath of the Wild in this game; it makes Age of Calamity feel like a true prequel to Breath of the Wild instead of merely another Hyrule/Dynasty Warriors game. I’m surprised no one is talking about the visuals in this game! I’m so excited for this game. I won’t be playing this game for its gameplay; I’ll be playing it for the story and lore alone. If it turns out to be fun as well, that’s a bonus for me. I’m so happy for this opportunity to experience more of this period in Hyrule’s history.

Also at 8:29 those three guards are being chased by a Molduga, you can see the sand a nd particle effects of one tunneling in the ground behind them. That’ll surely be a boss fight like the Igneous Talis on Death Mountain. Or the lynal from the first trailer in Zora’s domain. Molduga will be the boss for the Gerudo Desert. When we meet Revali his boss will likely be in hebra, to which a frost talus or a Hinox would be my guess as to the boss in his portion of the story.

8:06 Given Urbosa's friendship with the queen of Hyrule before the latter's death, and her position as a sort of mentor or guardian to Zelda, I could see her making a temporary exception for Link to enter the town, especially given the immediate battle that the scene implies. Besides, Urbosa's comments during the ballad dlc imply that Link had been in the town before via his "disguise," so it could be possible that by this point she trusts him enough to make said exception.

I'd think that there would be more than one shiekah slate seeing how they were vital for Link to gain control of the divine beasts. It would make sense that the champions would need one to start up and/or activate them.

I remember something saying that the way the Sheikah Towers work is that when one is activated, it sends a transmission to somewhere inside Hyrule Castle and then to the other towers, which allows them to rise (this is how is worked in Botw when link activated the great plateau tower). My theory is that the little white guardian is the key transmission for activating the towers, and was located inside hyrule castle when link activates the tower 100 years later.

Alright here's my small theory: We've seen multiple people without a sheikah slate use runes, so I believe that the way they are doing this is with that little egg guardian. What evidence do I have? Very little. However, this would be a clever way to incorporate cool mechanics without breaking lore.

As in the egg is giving them the rune powers, not the sheikah slate? And the slate is still necessary to channel them? And so, they can have the runes feature in gameplay whilst also having it so that the runes are never actually loaded onto the Sheikah Slate itself? So they have no reason to believe that the Sheikah Slate on its own is capable of anything beyond the camera rune, and canon is maintained. Brilliant.

I want to say something short: Did anybody notice how in the first trailer Urbosa uses the slowdown technique that Link is the only one supposed to be capable of using? (Being his main ability)

I don't think it's ever canonically stated that the slowdown is a special Link-specific ability. It's just a popular fan theory because the other champions all have their own power and Link doesn't seem to unless the slowdown counts as his ability. Some NPCs note that his archery is so fast that it's like time is stopped, but as far as I'm aware there isn't anything saying he's the only one that can do the dodge or flurry attack. The Age of Calamity developers did apparently say that his unique in-game ability is rapid-firing arrows (and maybe bombs. I couldn't tell from the bit of translation I saw), so there is some precedent to say that the archery bit is exclusive to Link. The other slowdown stuff doesn't seem to be treated with such importance, so I'd personally chalk it up to gameplay convenience. It is funny that Link is canonically Hyrule's fastest archer even though Revali is around.

I'm just going to consider the game as "sort of" canon, stuff like the runes, the towers, the egg, the inevitable changes to the deaths of the champions themselves. (I expect them to just have some big fight at the end of each of them, not inside their divine beasts and not involving any sort of SOS signals sent out.) There's a lot of inconsistencies that are just going to be a side effect of it being a warriors game instead of directly made by the botw team.

In all likelihood, none of the people are actually using the slate, and instead are getting the rune powers through egg boy which will be destroyed at some point and after that Purah will find that the runes exist on the slate.

Something to note is that while it is true in the trailer that after each Champion’s section the divine beast on the tapestry is consumed by darkness, this actually happens in reverse for Revali/Vah Medoh, when Medoh is consumed on the tapestry right after Naboris. Not sure if it means anything or not but thought it was worth a mention.

I don't think there needs to be any contradiction to the lore. Link simply was brining the sword back to be reenchanted, as is common when he has it early in the game. Also, if you think about things, it makes sense that the towers and the temples had rose 100 years prior, but only immediately before the Calamity such that no one bothered to mention it and three Sheikah simply did not mention it because it was not important. I say this because old man Rohan knew what the tower was in full as well as the temples.

Thoughts... The flash and laser beam at the castle.. Could be a deflected guardian laser? When you don't parry a guardian laser it does deflect to a different angle......
