Personally, I think that it's more of a cruel irony. The guardian goes back in time to stop the calamity, but instead is the reason it happened the way it did. I feel like this would really hit harder considering they knew what would happen and they still failed. Honestly, it's probably just me not wanting another time split, but I think it's the same timeline.

I myself am starting to believe the story will involve a sort of "time loop of death" as the egg guardian is continuously traveling to the past trying to prevent the Great Calamity and yet failing every time until finally it finds a way to succeed as we'll get to see in the story of Age of Calamity. Maybe the events of BotW were of the first "original" timeline where the egg guardian first started it's mission and through it's changes in the timeline "something" will happen that will affect the events of Breath of the Wild 2.

Idk, botw heavily implied that they had no knowledge that they would fail and that it came as a shock. There is even a pretty clear splittingpoint. If the egg did not activate the tower and the runes early, then Link would have proceeded to fight with the underpowered shiekahsleight that impa dropped in hand and it is believable to me that that could very well lead to the BotW we know.

This isn't the Hateno Ancient Lab. It's the Royal Ancient Lab. In the demo, the quest took us through the Breach of Demise, which is west of the castle in Breath of the Wild. The Royal Ancient Lab Ruins are almost directly North of this canyon, making them Northwest of the castle. This is reflected in the demo map. If this were the Hateno or even the Akkala lab, we wouldn't have gone through the Breach of Demise as both are in the opposite direction (Northeast and Southeast).

My theory is a bit different. If we're dealing with time travel, the fortune teller being involved immidietly sprung into my mind. The mysterious figure we saw something we can assume was corrupted ancient core, so it would stand to assume they can corrupt tech with malice. And then we see egg boi corrupted with malice, as well as the fact it can time travel. I think you can see where this is going. What if the fortune teller got a hold of the egg guardian and used it to go to the future and see what leads hyrule to ruin. Then he goes back to make sure those events play out properly, he tells the royal family they should dig up guardians and divine beasts and that leads to the calamity. When zelda uses her sealing power then the egg guardian is cured of malice and goes back in time to fix the mistakes he made. Then we will see what happens in age of calamoty but I feel like from what we saw they will fail anyway. Botw is all about changing zelda traditions and we had going back in time to save the future so now the twist could be that fate is always set and you can't change it whether you like it or not.

Here's my timeline idea: *Original timeline:* Corrupted egg guardian is found by princess Zelda. It is somehow corrupted and deactivates. Zelda seals him in a box. Then when Zelda's sealing power awakens it somehow gets reactivated (This time good), and goes back in time to attempt to stop the great calamity (but I don't think it's going to work). Thoughts?

There is one thing that conflicts with this however. The color scheme of the corrupted micro-guardian is different from the one that travels with Link in the game. Given the corrupted version has a red eye, and guardian eye color has been shown not to change after corruption, I suspect that the corrupted micro-guardian is a different individual from the one that was sent back in time.

I believe this is one timeline where it ends up being the type of situation where the snake bites its own tail. Now what do I mean by this? What I believe is that the events in this game lead up to breath of the wild and is not a separate timeline. When the guardian that tries to shoot the egg it disperses malice which means it’ll be deactivated blocking off the entrance to Zelda‘s study, but if you look in breath of the wild it’s not blocked off by a guardian which would mean the events in this game lead up to breath of the wild. Or this game somehow ends off with the egg in a box again repeating the cycle for eternity.

That's what I'm thinking. In this case it is impossible to change the events that have passed... Prisoner of Azkaban style. But I think it's too soon to discard the possibility of a timeline split because there are too many inconsistencies between everything that's going on in Age of Calamity and what we saw in BotW. For example, in the demo they already know about corrupted Sheikah tech and even saw what will happen to Hyrule Castle and its surroundings early on. In BotW even after Link already has the champion tunic Zelda seems to have little knowledge about all this.

@@mrlborges I think that there will be a split where if they do not succeed in preventing the calamity from awakening, BOTW will occur, but if they DO stop it, BOTW2 will occur because in the trailer from 2019 the castle rose with no pillars surrounding it or towers anywhere in the shot which implies that calamity Ganon did not awaken. This will lead to them researching areas of the world and find the underground tomb where Ganondorf is held. Therefore BOTW2 takes place if there is a victory and BOTW1 takes place when there is a loss (therefore splitting the timeline into two strands). though this is just a theory.

The Egg Guardian is a mystery in itself, and something curious about him and the images he has of the Citadel on fire is that if you pay attention to each one of them, nowhere do you see the Guardian Army that burned the city and the lacer beans, which is Interesting.

The photos are likely from the Calamity 10000 years ago, when the Guardians weren't corrupted. I think the Diminutive Guardian we see Time Travelling actually goes back to the original Calamity event, unintentionally bringing some Malice with it - it gets corrupted and becomes the other Evil Mini-Guardian we see, being the catalyst that leads to Link being mortally wounded and Zelda unleashing her sealing powers, triggering the Mini-Guardian in Zelda's Study to travel back 10000 years, to get corrupted again in a perpetual Time Loop... ...but that only works if there is one inserted to set it all off. So where does the Mini-Guardian you originally meet come from? Answer: The FUTURE! The time-warping the Mini-Guardian in the Study does means it can't be involved, but the *Evil* Mini-Guardian that almost kills Link would be all but destroyed, yet still salvageable. It would take a long time - like say, _100 Years_ - but it could be repaired, with the right mechanic working on it. Get where I'm going here?

I still think its a loop. You fight the corrupted guardian and manage to save it. It's then locked in a box. The main guardian dies towards the end. The corrupted guardian then goes back in time. It shows a sad montage of time loops until eventually, the egg doesn't make it. I still think this is a canon prequel to Breath of the Wild.

I know this is late but after playing through the first chapter and beginning cut scene I realized that if egg boi is not traveling to a different timeline, then the egg boi is traveling back in time for ever in a constant loop unless something changes in the future chapters. Basically the egg boi is in a continuous loop for ever.

The egg guardian could very well be changing the events of the original timeline(where BotW 1 happened) only to fail in every single timeline until finally succeeding in AoC. Should the ending differ completely to the events seen in BotW i wonder how everything is going to connect to the events dealing with Ganondorf's return in BotW 2?

I wonder if the time travel is not only the excuse for other characters [like Sidon, Riju, maybe even Ganondorf], but also a "what if?" scenario where you end up doing SOMETHING to prevent the Calamity and the death of the Champions. Or even the REASON why it happens since it flatout shows the Malice following the tiny boy and infecting a Guardian. Perhaps THAT is how Calamity Ganon even realized that he could infect the technology in the first place and why it knew exactly how to strike.

Okay, all I can "theorize" is that Nintendo did it this way for one simple reason: Not so much for a "timeline split", as it is to give us a version of the game that is less...simple and direct than depicted to Link through his memories, than to give us a version that is playable and very interactive.

I think that it will still end in failure and the time travel will only make the ending more heartbreaking. They knew what hyrule would become but still failed. I think this has been told as an events of the great calamity and I don't think the devs would pull a make the game where you stop the calamity.

@@alexcardoza3166 The game might just give us a "time loop of death" kinda like what Majora's Mask did with the 3 day cycle with the difference that it will still lead to the destruction of the world(to an extent) regardless of wathever changes the egg guardian does that could affect Calamity Ganon's reappereance. Maybe the egg guardian has been traveling across time *multiple times* trying to prevent the Great Calamity only to fail in *every single timeline.* 😲 Now wouldn't that be an interesting plot twist at the end of the game.

my explanation for the second champians is that the spirits of the champions traveled back with the egg boy. the egg guardian could have a way to transport spirits, or Zelda's use of the triforce enabled this to happen.

The egg being activated so close when Zelda's power awakened made me think the spirit inside it is Fi time traveling to make sure things are set up to revive Link. The Master Sword is a huge time travel key in of itself.

Yet according to the ending of the Trial of the Sword DLC Fi was still inside of the Master Sword unnable to leave due to her role as the spirit that must inhabit the Master Sword. It would be a bit complicated not to say convoluted for Fi to exist both inside the Master Sword and as the egg robot as it travels to the past where a past incarnation of Fi is also there to meet her.

ikr? I saw the time travel portal and was like "oh no not again." However Nintendo decides to tie everything together, I hope they do so in a manner that leads directly to BoTW and not a bunch of timeline splits and alternate universes. I mean, T=the game was advertised as being a prequel that depicts "the story from 100 years prior to the events in BoTW" so I wouldn't think they'd change that. The demo might just be super vague and out-of-context story-wise in an effort to drum up attention and speculation, boosting sales when the game actually releases.

I think the malice that corrupted that one Guardian that attacked in the Breach of Demise was part of the malice that came through the time portal with the Egg Guardian. You can see after he jumps through that the Guardian that was attacking him sent clouds of malice toward the portal and followed through it just before the animated tapestry sequence and the title reveal.

The REAL question is this: if you've looked at the bridge connection Zelda's study room to Hyrule castle it's fairly small. So how does a guardian stalker walk on said bridge when it's to big compared to the width of the bridge?

Agreed. I was hoping for a straight up story of the events leading up to the Great Calamity and how our heroes seemed to be in control and pushing back the monster hordes until Calamity Ganon turned the tables and everything went to hell. I don’t want a story where the heroes have knowledge of the future events and now have an opportunity to set things right and start another “timeline” and game franchise. It’s almost like it’s Nintendo’s way of playing it safe, saying if we don’t like this game that’s ok because it’s not really part of the “Breath of the Wild” timeline and the sequel will continue THAT story while Age of the Calamity takes it in another direction. Maybe Age of Calamity will do this in a way that’s clever and remains tied to the “Breath of the Wild” story, but the time travel notion is a little discouraging.

Before Nintendo dropped the Demo, I thought that maybe the last fight in AoC would be Zelda, alone at Hyrule Castle, facing Ganon and sealing him away. Then she says something that goes smooth into botw, so that you hear Zelda say: "the rest is upon you. I will wait until you open your eyes again" or something like that. And then the end of AoC. So that you can switch quickly the game cards and play Botw.

I like to think that the corrupted egg guardian was created by the 'fortune teller' and was undercover, but was caught and defeated but with no external damage done. The guardian ends up in that box in princess Zelda's study and activated in the AoC timeline due to Zelda activating her sealing power closer to the location of the boxed-up egg boi (I am saying egg boi instead of something else) because the area where the sealing power awakens looks different than it did in botw (at least from my point of view). I also like to think that the reason that there are two of each champion along with the egg boi, is because it is signaling that the past has been altered. Although malice still engulfs the whole tapestry, I think that it relies on Link, Zelda and the egg boi to defeat the calamity. And who knows, maybe the champions are able to prevail, maybe everything is the same but changes a few things a century later, maybe they still win but there is a mass amount of destruction and casualties...I dunno... Edit: I also realized that since Robbie and Purah can now study the egg boi and find even more pictures of the calamity and maybe even some more hints at the ancient technology and they may be able to make some ancient weapons either without Cherry or make a model of cherry many years earlier than when Robbie originally made Cherry.

It doesn't. the events are inevitable no matter which timeline. There's a decent chance it's time hopping connects all 3 and ganon's intervention was able to spread and span into the others. Rubble, a guardian laser and malice all got through before it managed to leap through the portal itself.

Like I saw mentioned, the tapestry is from 10,000 years ago. My theory is the egg guardian went back to right before the calamity happened to try and prevent it from happening. When everyone notices that they're not able to stop it, the egg gets sent back along with the champions to the time of the tapestry. This is why the egg guardian along with two champions on each divine beast appear in this new tapestry.

Just finished the demo shortly ago. I have to say, I absolutely loved it. Everything about it. I’ve never played a HW game before, so everything was new to me. I loved the gameplay. Impa is an absolute monster of a playable character. Zelda is boring af. Link kicks ass too. I really enjoyed the blacksmithing element added to improve your weapons. I watched some of your gameplay livestream before I played the demo, and I have to say NBC, you were SEVERELY limiting yourself and your experience by using the same attack over and over and over. There is quite a bit of variety and fun with a variety of button combinations; Impa is incredible for that. Also, use your dodge and block more :) Also, one last thing. I’m not shocked at all by the element of time travel; it’s really nothing new for a Zelda series.

At the end of the day, I think it will just be a time-loop failure. Somehow the evil egg boy catches up to the good big boy, they struggle. The bad egg boy is gravely injured, and the good boy goes through the time loop once again after another inevitable failure , but only this time only to be killed by the evil egg boy (its last stand) as it goes through the portal, making it pop out dead on the other side. That way, the original BOTW timeline could still be correct, and the time loop stops.

I have a theory that there are multiple timelines of botw. The egg guardian woke up after Zelda wished for it to wake up. After seeing what happened, Zelda must have wished that the egg would stop this from happening in the past, which resulted in the time portal appearing. So the egg went to another botw timeline to stop the great calamity from happening. Ganon in return, sent malice after it which must have hit that world's egg and it became evil. Also, sheika towers that appeared out of the ground might have to do with the egg, cause in botw, those sheika towers never appeared in memories nor were they ever up until you activated the great plateau tower, which signals the other towers to rise. So the egg entering that world affected the way that world worked, like the sheika towers coming out of the ground. Also it affected that world's egg and also, the malice that ganon sent must have started calamity ganon in that world earlier on since that malice corrupted that one guardian that was destroyed before the Ganon in that world even woke up, meaning that the other malice sent must have corrupted more guardians and also had made those hordes of minions cause you can tell that world's Ganon wasnt even awake yet when all this happened, so the malice sent through the time portal must have caused all of enemies to spawn in and corrupt some of the guardians, which explains why some of them in the demo they were able to turn on to shoot at the evil ones. While they were distracted, later on their world's Ganon awoke, corrupting the rest of the guardians and soon after, the divine beasts. And with the egg Zelda found, she turned it off and put it away and after she protected Link with her magic, she wished for the egg to come awake and go through the time portal she wished for so the egg can stop this from happening in the past again. So basically, all the worlds are in one big loop, destined to suffer from Calamity Ganon. Also i think that the egg traveling back in time was a way for Nintendo to introduce the game and how like we are traveling back in time. I think the egg represents us, the player, going back in time and when it replaces a guardian, it's basically us replacing a guardian so we can be part of that world. Also the evil egg must be that mysterious character's spy or ganon's spy and the sheika towers coming from the ground are signals that the calamity is starting to awaken. I believe this second theory more, rather than the one i wrote above.

My personal theory is that eggboi is the fortune teller because it has pictures of the future. I also think this will still result in hyrules downfall, as like in the original game, the future is predicted, the king forbids Zelda from investigating the ancient machines and link is attacked by a guardian. All of this is seen in the demo and it leads to link being placed in the shrine of resurrection, Zelda sealing Gannon in the castle, the champions dying, the battle over the akkala citadel and eegboi going back in time to try to stop it, in an endless loop of death.

One thing that is very interesting is that in the ridge of Demise chapter, when egg guardian activated the other guardians to defend Zelda, the color of those is yellowish/gold (like the color of Zelda sacred power) and not orange like the usual neutral guardians. That would mean that egg guardian from the future is powered by Zelda’s power, which seems to be confirmed by the opening cutscene.

8:28 On the contrary, personally I believe this new, evil version of the micro-guardian, rather than being a corrupted version of the original, is the same model, but is a different individual. Not only does it glow purple with corruption, but it also has a completely different color scheme from the one traveling with Zelda and co, with the silver of it's legs and white body both being colored black, but also with a red eye rater than a blue one. Both botw and aoc have shown corrupted and "pure" guardians, and the eye color for guardians doesn't change after corruption, rather staying blue. My bet is on this new micro-guardian being a different member of it's type, possibly serving as a sort of spy or intel gatherer for the unknown hooded figure seen in the 2 most recent trailers.

Also the corrupted egg guardian is possibly *also* travelling to the past to help usher the return of Calamity Ganon instead of preventing it. 😱 Maybe this 2 egg guardians have both been continuously going to the past trying to sabotage the other's attempts to help their respective factions during the whole war against Calamity Ganon and the Yiga Clan until the very final battle is waged and Zelda seals herself alongside Ganon for 100 years which forces both egg guardians to once again travel backwards in time and repeat the cycle. 🤔🤯

I think that the egg guardian was corrupted with malice and eventually found Link and Zelda. The two capture the guardian to study it. Finally when Zelda unlocks her powers the guardian is cleansed of its malice and goes back in time to help Zelda (the one who saved it from ganon’s control) and it loops
