[FIXED] I had the same problem. The repair guy said it may be a valve lifter. It turned out a piston slap. So I ordered the same parts 'DNG' like in this video, from Amazon with delivery to Bulgaria. The repair guy said that the cylinder walls are too thin to be bored out, so only he did only honing. I changed many things - all pistons, a full set of gaskets, the long block bolts, all valve lifters, tensioner, timing chain, connecting rod bearings. I topped that with XADO 1 Stage Maximum. Now I have to drive 3000km under 3000rpm after the engine repair and change the oil after that. The new oil is 10w40. After the change, I think to use Ravenol 10w30, the silver one. The total cost till now for parts and repair - 1500 euro. Car: Elantra Coupe 2013, 87000 km

I bought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra 8 days ago from Vernon Nissan with 74.000 km on the car. The motor had a slight knock after driving it for 3000km. I took the car to Hyundai for diagnosis. The conclusion is, There is a recall on the engines that have this piston slap. The Hyundai dealership is replacing my motor with a new one for FREE. Yes Free. There's no need to try and repair this yourself or have a back yard mechanic fix it. Take it to Hyundai and they will install a brand new motor for free. They do have a Secret Warranty in place. The motor has been ordered and will be here in about two weeks. Cars affected are 2011 through 2014. This is a true story.

I have a 2012 elantra with 120,000 miles with the same issue sounds exactly the same, went to the dealership, asked if there was a recall on it they told me no its with the sonatas that I just needed a new engine, I even paid 100 dollars for them to do an inspection on it.

My 2017 Hyundai has developed a engine knock. It goes away when I use high octane fuel. Its has covered 134K miles and my guess, it needs a new piston. Do you have anyone in San Diego that can see the car and suggest?

The best way to prevent this problem is to use 5w30 synthetic oil in place of the 5w20 that hyundai recommends. The 5w20 is too thin .

In Michigan, can you recommend a reputable mechanic? Do you have connections. Hyundai Engine Settlement Center just sent me a letter thst they are paying "FULL" for complete repair for whatever the cost is for this exact repair. The letter states it hapoens in cold States and only covered fir cars covered in certain states. From 2011-2016. Including a rental care expenses incurred.

Knocking is a regular in Elantra cars mine is 2011 n have this when I crank it in da morning. I just replaced da valve gasket n spark plugs , Pcv n now car vibrates over 60 to 70 MPH LEFT PASSENGER SIDE N REPLACE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE. WHO EYHAVE THESE ISSUES HERE

yeah a used engine thats just as shitty, when i saw that's the course of action hyundai was pushing nation wide....bs "change the oil" "change to an OEM filter" new injectors etc so on.......the "the knocking persisted" i brought the car back to the dealership a week later........"they told me i needed a new engine" reviews on car complaints...........jesus. Claiming its "re-manufactured" with no defects.....proving they couldnt even part by part replace the OEM engine with new parts for it to function properly as.........impossible to isolate/operate.....scenario. NICE ethics hyundai. WHy even spend the extra 2-3k on a used block+1k for labor.......for the same problem to happen to the replacement engine. This is bogus hyundai wanted to avoid a lawsuit and paying out proper on this with due diligence which is why techs/production managers all blew steam up owners asses........and proceeded to do....."OEM filter" replacement repairs right to head work/parts replacement.......that didnt solve the problem......authorized it knowing it..........and knew damn well a week to a month later theyd be working on the same damn car doing a swap.........fuck hyundai their on my shit car list for----ever. You cant get out of it. You fuck around and cut corners yer fucked for life IMO as far as my $$$ is concern. Why be dumb enough to trust chrysler twice......or land rover. Unless youre just that dumb

Take your car to Hyundai for a diagnosis. 2011 through 2014 have this piston issue. There is a recall on those motors because the manufactures who built these motors skipped a step that caused de-burring in the motor causing metal fragments to travel around inside the motor causing damage. I have a 2013 Elantra, I took it to Hyundai yesterday and this morning they phoned me and said they're installing a brand new motor for free. Yes Free.

I have a 2013 Elantra 101,000. Just around 100,000 I noticed a knock...long story short I took it to my dealer, which I bought it from and did all my work from, they checked it out and they said I needed a another engine....which Hyundai is paying for due to apparent issues with their engine. I was pleasantly surprised.

Im at 95500 in my 13 elantra and I have a slight knock (sounds like lifters) on cold start up and goes away when warm so now that I saw this post I'll be heading over to the dealership to check out the warranty...

The only thing they wanted to see was maintenance records to make sure it wasn't from maintenance neglect...and I had to pay for them to open and find the issue...was about 250, but not bad due to I got a brand new engine at 99k

@@nickb1973 I brought it straight to the dealer, and it was actually the second time they had to replace my engine...the dealer actually had to contact the corporate office and get approval from Hyundai. If they didn't I was going to. They have a known issue and they acknowledge it at least

It's just a Hyundai being a Hyundai. This engine looks at least average maintained to above-average maintained based on how free the rings look. This is not due to lack of maintenance.

@@robn729 my 17 Elantra 2.0 has 44.000 miles now and sounds very quiet at idle. I think the 2.0 Atkinson cycle engines are fine. If you think theres a problem with your engine definitely take it back for a check, it's under warranty for 100.000 miles. How often do you change the oil?
