Hyundai i20 1.2i - Gearbox Swap (HD)

The car is a 2019 Hyundai i20 1.2i and it has a hole in the gearbox, so we have to change it. It can drive a couple of meters, but basically it's seized due to running dry from the previous owner. I towed it from the seller with my bmw, that has had a clutch and dual to single mass flywheel swap before that (can watch it here • BMW e39 - Dual to Sing... ) so now it phas paid itself off. The ride was extreme, as the trailer was very wide, like a HD truck.. :)

impact gun for quick bolts removal (not a must)

manual oil pump

swap gearbox of the same type
wires for supporting the loose steering knuckles
anti dust sacks for the half-axles
black zip tie
gearbox oil appr. 1.6 L

I sold the car and don't thik I will come across an i20 diesel. Anyway if I had to do that, I expect it would be quite similar.

is it safe to support the car with axle stands on that area? i was under the impression that the car is only to be supported from the pinch welds thanks to its unibody construction?

From the body strength point of view yes, it is heavy compression molded body sheet metal part, so it has enough load-carying capacity. It is not so good because of potential anti corrosion layer harm and because it was supported nearly at the end of the body - it could slip. It was done because of shape of the 6T jack stands. If you can, support it at the pinch welds.

It was changed due to an accident, there was a hole in the gearbox. It had about 50.000 km.

@@hamidbelhachmi8756 not sure about this, I think in the video itself I do show the specs from the service book of this vehicle. But anyway, I would try to go with your oil and if it's not right, you will notice by slightly worse shifting in the first gear. Then you can maybe shift to ATF...
