@@Wardance76 yepp! 🙂 I had ioniq classic before, and experience ioniq5 as much similar to it. It is still energy efficient and is just as stable on the road as classic. Headup display is of course a fun experience and the seat that can be set higher is wonderful! Funny thing is that it automatically shows live video ahead when I drive in to my garage😊. It shows charging current (kW) onscreen and I love 16Ah / 230 volts as I can charge my electric-boat-battery and all my tools (on my cabin without power from the grid!). Does not seem to steal too much of the battery in the car 😀. Disadvantage: When you open the tailgate it goes very high and hits the roof (garage door) in my garage, and then close automatically again.

Regarding the activation of the rear camera: it‘s most likely not only „usefull“ but „essential“ in bad weather situations because apparently Hyundai was trying to save money by not adding a windshield whiper in the back - so when it rains you won‘t be able to see out of the rear window (Battery Life showed this in his review)

It wasn't to save money. They wanted the back to be clean and the wiper added an extra, ugly protrusion to the beautiful car. What actually happened is that they tried to solve a problem with over engineering, and the engineer's solution is not as good as the old solution of just adding a wiper.

Somehow I feel the 120 km/h consumption is a bit disappointing. I am getting more range with my 64kWh e-Niro. I know I5 is a bigger car (and AWD), but I think it should be offered with a slightly bigger battery to compensate for the higher consumption (EV6 is going to have 77kWh). I'd pay extra for a battery > 80 kWh The aerodynamics does not help here either. Another thing that makes me a bit worried here is that the whole infotainment system is based on Android 4. Sure it looks nice, but all the pre-Ioniq5 cars equipped with it suffer from input lag, don't offer wireless CarPlay nor Android Auto, and even if you connect AA with an USB cable, only a fraction of the screen is available. From the reviews of Ioniq5 and EV6 it seems that the infotainment system is based on the same system offered in previous cars. Edit: corrected 64kW -> 64kWh.

@@krwawykrolik a) AWD would be nice, but honestly the only times I wish I had AWD are when starting at traffic lights and the front wheels lose traction, especially when it rains. AWD cars usually have worse efficiency due to higher rotating mass and extra friction - Ioniq 5 has a clutch that detaches front motor when not needed, but the time will tell how reliable it is, b) I wish I could tow too, even a small trailer, c) e-Niro is not that bad, but I still have another petrol car with MUCH larger trunk that is much more useful e.g. when going on holiday with kids and a dog.

Glad so see that Hyundai has improved the behaviour of Autosteer disengage if you are not taking over. My i30 will just disengage auto steering while keeping cruise control on. It will basically crash you into the next tree if you pass out. But it is still nowhere near Mercedes for example. A new GLE will steer you on the emergency lane, bring you to a full stop with the hazard lights on and automatically connect you to an emergency operator.

The 120 range is really disappointing to be honest and on top of that, it has 19inch wheels compared to the 21inch of the GTX. So imagine what the GTX could have done in 19’s…In NA, most of the road you do is on highway, so the 120 range is really important. The only difference is that we will get the 77Kwh battery over here instead of 72, so we have to take that into account. Don't know how much 5kw more could add in term of range...
@bilgyno1
@bilgyno1 3 жыл бұрын
The 5 kWh extra will give you about 20 km more range at 120 km/h. But really, with the high charging speed, that is sufficient to make road trips. If you can get around 300 km on a full charge, you can get 240 km on 80% of the battery. And this car takes 10 minutes less to get from 10-90% (28 minutes) than the MEB cars need to do 10-80% (38 minutes). Having said that, I do wish Hyundai had focused more on getting the Cd lower than its current 0.29. I'm pretty sure that with some tweaks they could have achieved a similar score to Skoda (0.257), which would mean ~10% less drag. You notice this especially at higher speed.

Check out the Nextmove AWD comparison between the Ioniq 5, ID.4 GTX and Mustang Mach-e. But also keep in mind the charging advantage of the Ioniq 5. On a long trip, the Ioniq 5 charges 10-90% in 10 minutes less than the ID.4 takes to charge 10-80%(depending on the charger of course).

Thanks for the hard work Björn. Might be nice to also put the KM/Minute including charging at different speeds to compare cars. For instance if you assume 80%-0%-80% cycle at 90 the Ioniq 5 gets 1.14 KM/Min and the same discharge-charge cycle at 120 it gets 1.43 KM/Min. So going at 120 is definitely better, even with extra charging. However, this could easily change with different charge cycles. It would be very interesting to compare cars with this figure, don’t you think? Also I hope I used the correct figures that I tried to use from your spreadsheet.

I might have missed it but was the range tested at normal mode or eco mode. I'm asking cuz I believe the car is supposed to lock the front motor in eco mode creating a psuedo RWD. Obviously the front motor is still sipping power but for range anxiety it should help. Wouldn't mind seeing that tested.

Bjorn, one question, in the Tests sheet you put 75% charge time for this car as 17 minutes. But in the previous video from 10% to 75% it did spend 17 minutes, how can it charge 75% in 17 minutes if it takes 17 minutes to reach 75% staring from 10%?

I don't remember the issue but there is some import feaure difference between the normal and long range batteries . The 58 kwh battery has shorter lifetime than the 72 kwh, or warranty period are not the same ?I don't really remember where was this dicussed, but i don't find this subject in the broshutes and in the messages animore. I am thinking to buy a short range modell as i would use it for short distances and this is more economic for the everiday use.

I have looked forward to a proper driving review of this car from a person with an independent perspective. Ok I know you love Tesla but you seem to give credit where it is due. I was impressed with the side camera view on lane changes as that is an excellent safety feature. The fully useful camera availability at any speed is also useful. I asked my Mercedes salesman about that function in my EQA a few days ago and he said "Of course - but only up to 15Kmh" so the answer was NO. Thanks Bjorn
