I’ve driven 10,000 miles in my mid spec, Premium RWD with the larger battery. I agree that the interior quality is a bit disappointing for the £42k I paid for it, but I love everything else about it. It’s fast,smooth,comfortable and spacious. Now the weather has warmed up I’m getting just under 4 mi/kWh, so a range of about 280 which is perfectly adequate. It’s a charging monster, it hit 222kW last week and went from 30% to 80% in 14 minutes! I’m currently on holiday in France and it turns heads everywhere I go. In 45 years of car ownership this is the first car that I’ve had that I’ve been proud to be seen driving!

I was 3 weeks ago on travel through Germany. When entering to a charging station someone else , not electrical driving, followed because he wanted to see the car from close...including charging speed which reached up to 225 KW (Ionity chargers at the Berliner Ring). And yes I do love my project 45 AWD version. And I have no negativ feeling about the interior.

This car is Amazing, I gave it a test drive at The fully Charged show. apart from the price its definitely a car I would be proud to own and always crave to drive. My only gripe was the touch buttons, we really need tactile buttons in vehicles but i favour this over the ID3 and the ID4. Shout out to EVM, i saw you on Saturday at FCL 👍

Test drove the Kona and the 5 straight after, a couple of months ago. Eventually went for the Kona for 3 reasons. 1. The Ioniq 5 is huge in comparison. As someone who drives alone/with 1 passenger most of the time, the 5 is just overkill for me. 2. The Ioniq 5 is huge in comparison. When test driving, I went home in both just to make sure it would fit. Only just fits on the drive and could see myself scraping it on the fenceposts at least once over the next 4 years (leased). As someone else has already mentioned, a bit big for the UK IMO too. 3. Although a better looking car, more comfortable and feeling to drive, the 5 was on lengthy delivery and the Kona was sat there at the dealership waiting to be picked up. No brainer TBH but might have been a different story if they'd both been on similar delivery times. Heart said wait for the Ioniq 5 but the brain, and the pocket both said, overall, the Kona was for me the better option right now.

I changed my KonaE64 (2019 ) for an ioniq 5 project 45 version. Only because I was lucky to be ione of the first for opting on this car I have one. Point 1: The same for me but quite often we have to transport things also...the KonaE was a just a little small.And the KonaE cannot pull anything (version 2019). Already I have used the extra space a lot of times filled up. Point 2: I'll have just a little wider drive. It fits easily enough. Point 3: Because I belonged to the first buyers the waiting time was acceptable....and I already was driving electric. Made the waiting time less important. Price in the Netherlands: 59000 euro's turn key. Also this is the very first car in my life in which the driver seat does not need to be as far back as possible....not even close to that point. It makes this the first car ever posessed in which I can take easily a passenger behind me from the same size (even bigger) than I am

Test drove both EV6 and Ioniq5 and your review is spot on. A major plus point of these brands is there long warranties. Superfast charging speeds are irrelevant if network isn't there but there are now enough 100kw+ out there to make it possible for the odd long trip.

We've had the RWD base model for a couple of months now and love it as a family car. Can't speak highly enough of the ability to slide the back seats forward. When you have wee ones in the back that don't need leg room you certainly need boot room for all the crap you've got to take with you. Ingenius design!

When I look at the front of this car it always reminds me of Vincent or Old-Bob from Disney's The Black Hole. From the side it looks like a super-sized 1970s VW Golf (somehow). I like how the wheel arch impression lines line up with the back door gap, nice touch there.

Had my P45 since September. 10,500 miles in. Been to Lake District & Cornwall mini breaks. No problems at all. It is a fantastic car. It is by far the biggest car I have ever owned (and the heaviest!) as I love small, light and agile cars. But it is still the complete package. And now it will come with the Kia like 77kWh battery and vision pano roof , (instead of the solar roof) it will be perfect. MM

Car manufacturers have to work hard on reducing weight, improving batteries and efficiency. As much as I love this car’s looks and 800v platform, it’s huge. Same thing that put me off the EV6 too. Ended up with an eNiro as a result (which needs a touch more sound deadening and is ultimately heavy). Cannot fault the efficiency though - it’s incredible

Ioniq 5 shot up to the top of my EV wish list as soon as the first teaser reviews started coming out. It's a real stunner. You're right that it doesn't look big on camera so I checked the dimensions and it's longer and wider than my current C4 grand picasso! A 7 seater MPV! How can Citroen fit 3 full seats in the passenger row and Hyundai can't with a wider car?

You’ve hit the nail on the head - the interior of both the EV6 and Ioniq5 don’t feel like the £40K+ they cost! Which is why after my initial reservation on a Kia EV6 I am now considering a Genesis GV60. Same Korean stable but an emphasis on quality feel. Sure I’ll have to forego some features like AWD for 2WD, 20” wheels for 19” to remotely get in the same budget but the quality feel is there. I first saw the GV60 at Farnborough Fully Charged UK Live 2022 show (end of April) and the quality interior just makes you go “wow”! The GV60 doesn’t have a moving centre console, nor sliding adjustable rear seats, nor the ability to collapse the rear seats from the boot nor a below boot floor stow-able parcel shelf and has less boot space than either of its cousins. But with all the options selected you get the following above and beyond the EV6 or Ioniq5; A mind blowing Napa leather and Suede luxury interior, Sat Nav charger destination battery pre-conditioning, OTA of virtually all computer systems, an updated more contemporary looking and functioning infotainment interface, heat-pump, rear laminated glass, B&O sound system with noise cancellation technology, finger print recognition, driver memory functions which include steering wheel position settings ( as has powered reach and rake steering wheel), 5 years road side assist and 5 years servicing! The GV60 gets a panoramic roof which in size sits between that of the massive sized one in the Ioniq5 and the opening but smaller sunroof of the EV6. And the rear seats do recline considerably. Such a choice from this Korean stable you pays your money and makes your choice for styling and feature variations. I almost wish I could get a mash of the three.

Went to Fully Charged Live this year, and the RAC vans are now being equipped with 3kw charger and working on a custom 5kw version to give you enough power to get to a rapid charger. This should ease the range anxiety a little for some 😂.

I started looking at ordering an EV September last year and tried an Ionic 5. I absolutely loved the drive, refinement, interior and performance and on my company scheme it was reasonably priced. However there was one thing that put me off and one thing that ruled it out. Put off thing was no rear wiper - sorry I don’t care what anyone says that’s a bad idea. Rule out thing was the boot - although it’s mentioned briefly in the video it is way too shallow for my needs with dogs, camping gear etc. The official dimensions (over 500 litres) make you think it’s large but it’s basically very shallow but long and wide. Just not practical for a family IMO. Shame as rest of the car is excellent. Ended up ordering an Audi Q4 as it’s actually lower cost on my company scheme - similar boot in official dimensions but much better shaped. Also considered an Enyaq but again strangely more expensive on my company scheme.

I have the Premium rear wheel drive (73kw battery) and get on average 4.3 miles/kw. It charges at whatever rate the charger is at and at the last full charge it gave me a 356 mile range. The above is mostly driving in London in eco mode, but every now and then I do drive in Sport mode for shiggles. Amazing car.

I LOVE the Ioniq 5 just unfortunately having sat in one both front and back and fully checked it out my head rubs the roof the front ever so slightly less so than the back seat but I was so gutted as I was hoping it could be my next EV after my classic 28kWh Ioniq goes off lease in 2yrs. At this point I am looking instead at the new facelift 2023 model year Niro EV as I know I fit in that from having driven the older model Niro(original). Was there a Nissan Leaf outside where you were parked that I could see over Harry's right shoulder? Looked like either the 40kWh or 60kWh model.

In the discussion on battery size vs charging rate, remember that the fastest charge is generally in the ~10% to ~80% range. A larger battery essentially puts more capacity in this bucket. This means on a trip where you can access fast charging, you should get less overall time at chargers. Cheers.

I have an IONIQ 5 RWD long range which is doing over 300 miles on a charge (average 4.4 miles/kWh) in urban driving without the air-con/heating running (which actually doesn't seem necessary in May in the UK). In winter I had the heating running which seemed to knock about 15 miles off the range. So very happy with performance. Biggest gripes are doorhandles (which don't pop out on my car and are invisible at night) if there are no street lights and the lack of a rear wiper. Long wheelbase is great except for when you are parking because the turning circle is not great.
@davidy7004
@davidy7004 2 жыл бұрын
Am I right in thinking there's no rear wiper? I think that would get annoying sometimes. (I imagine they will say something about aerodynamics but that doesn't help on days when there's snow or some other residue that needs wiping off.) Also - from certain angles it does remind me of an Austin Maestro... which fits nicely with the 8 bit theme. ;)

Now you have the same opinions as I on the Ionic 5, so this may be the top of the list now

It looks awesome, and all the reviews are great - at one stage I was wondering whether this was going to be my long term replacement for the Zoe. However, it's just too large. I understand why manufacturers are making cars that give them a better profit margin, but it feels like the family hatch market is really under-served in EV land. Is there anything other than the ID3, Leaf and Kia Soul? Hopefully the Megane will grab that opportunity and they can make loads of them.

Smartphones were very expensive when they were starting out. Now you can buy one for £130. It takes time for tech to mature. There are EVs in the twenties, they’re not all this much. They will get to the price of ICE eventually. Which incidentally is also going up a lot.

Most people are buying cars on finance, please keep in mind that while the upfront cost of EVs is generally higher than equivalent ICE cars (for now) their running costs and maintenance are incredibly cheap. These savings offset the increased monthly payments especially for high milage users, even moreso if your electricity is cheap / solar

I'm living in the Netherlands. My first EV was a nissan leaf 2013 (early in the year). In use as a "short range"car or in otherwords not used on longer travels. But we made half of all miles with that leaf. In 2019 We changed our ice hybrid for an all electric konaE64 because that 450 km wltp was enough for daytrips up to 1200 km. Enough for us. Since 2019 we drove nearly all km electric. I have calculated the total costs of ownership for these cars and compared with the total costs of ownership if the same amount of km would be driven in comparable ICE cars...this included ALL incentivs, taxes and so on. In 8 years (2013-2021) I've spent 60000 euro less on cars then when I would have kept to ICE cars. In 2021 I could buy this ioniq 5 from those savings cash. (Because I did not spent those savings on fancy other things) Of coarse on important point in those calculations: How many kilometers (miles) are you driving yearly.... This savings are based on 40000 km/year (24000 miles, with 2 cars) , dutch energy prices , taxes during those years, dutch petrol prices . The second important point....can you charge your car at home against low (nighttime?) prices. Also that is in my calculations.

Everytime I stop somewhere people of all ages want to know about it. It's the only EV we have had that people don't ask if its electric straight away and even petrol heads don't seem put off when you say it's an EV. It's a keeper. It's biggest problem is the price, like all EVs sadly.

Worst thing is that the uk spec is inferior to the USA (sun roof, pop out handles, auto park etc) yet costs more.

Looks great, much better than the EV6, but the range isn’t quite there yet to work for me. An uprated version in a couple of years with an absolutely guaranteed 250 mile range, no matter the temperature, and they’ll have my money. I feel like I've spoiled myself on the efficiency front by going to the Kona as my first EV, as it seems it's going to be very hard to beat. I'm hoping there'll be a resurgence of the estate car in the next couple of years, with plenty of EV estates released. Model 3 estate would be superb.

Anyone remember the hype that we were all told that for the same size as an ice car, you would have much more internal room in an EV. VW Group seem to have managed it but I haven’t seen much else from other manufacturers.

The Ioniq 5 feels like it has loads of space inside. Definitely a lot more than an ICE car. Tons of storage areas in the front. You can fit a backpack in the Footwell between the front two seats! Also have the Frank which is a decent size on the RWD.

I've turned sentry mode off on my Tesla because of the battery drain... Admittedly it wouldn't often cause me a problem, but cost me an extra stop on the way home from a short break (50 miles lost in 2) days. It's also 25 miles worth of electricity going to waste every day that does add up. I figure everyone assumes it's got sentry mode turned on so the deterrent aspect will still work.

"not" comparing to it's cousin..... Outside. Prefer the looks, "K" is "odd" from all but a few angles. Small point, the charge flap opens up. Out of the way. The "K" looks like it will get broken at some point. Inside. Being tall (me) looks like it's easier to get into than the "K" which I *have* tried.... It was "tight" (matron). Headroom, seems better (same issue in "K") Boot (rear access) Watch out for those dirty fingers(!) and the same shallow boot issue. Controls, I prefer these. Practicality, Like the "sliding bits" (rear seat, console, glove box) Cabin quality. Mat be the only area "K" wins (?) But is put up with it just for the space. ..... They do need to sort the BMS/ Charge / Pack cooling system on both cars, and the range is suspect. Reasonable second effort, but not a class leader yet.

Getting a smaller battery option because it's able to charge fast isn't a great strategy given the general UK public charging network. It's crazy how much demand there is for public rapid chargers. There never seems enough and always long queues and many rapid chargers have issues. All the new grid serve chargers are supposed to be and to charge two cars at a time on DC but this still doesn't seem like it's enabled. The only charging network that is decent is the Tesla supercharging one. Every other one is a pile of poo. It only takes one instance where you need to get somewhere on time, you allow time for rapid charging but that's more than eaten up by the issues encountered.

Hi, l like the one comment you made at the end of the video and that is how little you have used the supercharger network while having a Tesla. Because most people will manly say I would choose the Tesla because of the supercharger network but in practice very rarely use it as with most other Ev owners 95% of your charging is done at home. Don’t get me wrong it will be a great asset to the Ev drivers if they do open up the network to none Tesla owners. Good video but for me I prefer the EV6 and as such have one on order not to say the Hyundai is a lesser car no it’s not I just prefer the looks of the Kia.

@@Robert-mt9jw they claim 250kw charging and 10-80% in 18 mins. But if you don't get the ECO pack with a heat pump and battery pack then if you turn up to a rapid in winter, the battery will be cold and won't charge anywhere near claimed.

14:44 should warn you about the "resque" plans. Most EVSE's need to see ground connection to allow charging and i'm not sure they will see it on the V2L socket and will just give you error and not start charging. Test it out maybe? Rivian sockets in the bed also suffer from this, cant help a buddy out. (unless you do a wire trick with your EVSE to fool it, but most should not do that)
