Here’s a look at the mechanicals of the Kia Sorento!
The Kia Sorento features a 2.5L Turbocharged 4 cylinder engine with an 8 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. In this video, we take a detailed look at the setup under the hood and underneath the vehicle to see what I would be like if you were to own one of these vehicles and what would be involved in maintaining it. The topics covered include the air intake system, ignition, fuel, oil, turbocharger and exhaust, timing chain and belt drive, transmission, suspension, driveline and brakes.
Overall the Kia Sorento is a decent contender in its class. Its build quality is average but there are definitely some corners cut while making sacrifices for Kia’s value oriented proposition while maintaining safety and emissions regulations. An increase in longevity would be welcome as this brand sits in the shadow of numerous engine recalls amongst an increasingly unreliable 2.5T/8DCT combination as time wears on.

I definitely agree with the timing chain disclaimer. Just because you have a timing chain, doesn’t mean you can neglect maintenance.

They used to made timing chains that would last as the engine itself (with proper oil change intervals, naturally). Times have changed, I guess...

I agree....many of the engines I teardown on this channel failed because of timing chain related issues
@Devilacme
@Devilacme 3 ай бұрын
The one of the few brands that had timing chains that actually lasted was Saab. Had 2 of those. On the 900 the noise it made was rough but that's just how it was. No need to actually worry about timing problems. These days I would take belt over chain anytime. Seems like the belt in some engines lasts longer than many chains. And at least in older Volvos changing the belt was really not an issue.
@bonjournaste

Agree as well. I can appreciate the idea of making a 300,000 kms maintenance free, disposable vehicle, but I miss when they cared about NVH. These timing chains and direct injectors clacking away make everything sound so cheap. With these 8 speed transmissions now, they could reduce output by 20% and would still be more than adequate. Would trade a bit of output for refinement.

My current car has a timing chain that I generally don't think about. But I do prefer cars with belts, because then it has a defined service interval and is relatively simple to replace. With chains it's all a bit 'whatever'.

I had to have a new clutch fitted to my 2022 Kia CEED (AKA Hyundai i30 here in UK) under warranty last year and came across a great guy in the service dept who really knew his stuff and was fairly complimentary about the reliability of the newest Kia's overall, but he did describe the DCT transmissions as "absolutely horrific" and best avoided. He also admitted he drives a 2018 VW Golf. Another great review by the way!

My 2021 EX with the 2.5T-GDI & AWD is my very first new car purchase. It still holding up better as I'm nearing 25,000 miles. Seeing the prototypes running around Nürburgring is part of why I bought the Sorento. I told my mom I wanted to move on to my next car and use my employer's purchase program because she wasn't happy at our local Dodge dealer (3/2018, not much changed there, if not worse) screwing up the financing. I did takeoff that lower front aero-pan during my first oil change not noticing the access cover for the oil drain plug.

15:02 Hyundai and Kia actually don’t use foot sensors to open the tailgate. The proximity sensors detect the key and you simply stand at the back and it will beep a few times before it opens. 6:10 You don't need to use the Kia Diagnostics System (KDS) to bleed the air out of the system, the air bubbles will bleed out manually from the coolant reservoir when you put the heat on, just make sure to monitor and fill for 10 minutes. Also at 7:39 , the fill hole is your tranmission control oil, which is a different oil from the 75W oil you fill the dual clutch up with on the side of the transmission. Also, you can drain the hydraulic oil from the front of the transmission, and if its warm, you should probably expect around 2.3 quarts, if its cold, it should be 2.5 - 2.6.
