Hey Eric just to let you know I trust you completely. Have been an industrial mechanic since I was 20 and do all of my own maintenance on my vehicles. Had many late model trucks and have always been cable to work my way thru the issues. Have learned so much from yourself, Rainman and Ivan. By the way I'm now 74 and and still continue own work, do no trust stealerships except for warranty work. Keep up the excellent channel my friend.

Thanks for the follow-up! I've got a '12 Kia Optima (essentially the same car) that's throwing very-small-leak evap codes again a year after having the canister replaced; now I know where to connect my smoke machine, and that if it's the fuel pump it's probably at the "pay to make it someone else's problem" level :D (I'd take it back to the guy who did the canister-you've gotta drop the exhaust to do that and I'm not equipped to handle getting exhaust bolts off a 12-year-old NY/CT car-but I actually had to complain to the state to get him to send me an invoice so I could pay him. I mean, if you've got a customer saying "please send me the bill so I can give you money, I would like to pay you in full" for two months after the customer has the car back, and you STILL can't write it up until a state inspector calls you to ask "what the heck?" you've got some problems...)

I'd bet you will never do this. I help my cousin with his 82 Chevy Pick up with new sending unit in the tank and it sucked to do. But when I put it together, I used the wax from a toilet bowl wax ring, new of course and put it all around the top of the locking ring while I was installing it and after installed. And it worked really good.

Ppl who doubt don't live in the rust belt. Keeping brake pads freed up is a struggle. In the 40 years I been driving my own cars I only had one set of pads almost wear out. They was just about to the squealer when the rust jacked pad got spit out. Had to hit the pedal again to push the metal on metal to stop.

Off camera, Eric puts the old fuel pump back in and fills the valley where this crack and lock ring resides with JB weld. I would honestly be tempted to do just that myself. That way the pump is liable to last longer and maintain an accurate fuel gauge.

One of the worst things car manufacturers ever came up with is in-tank fuel pumps. The trouble and expense (not to mention the potential danger) of replacing these components compared to the externally mounted pumps of the Old Days is considerable. Why does it have to be this way?

Interesting to see how, even though the weak link was the steel, the plastic on the pump itself got damaged by rust jacking leading to the leak. Fortunately the tank side of that connection was still good.

I have had mixed results with Delphi fuel pumps used to be a quality name now so so I always hope I’m not doing another freebie 3 in a Honda for noise 3 in my own truck as the sending unit went crazy at 1/4 tank so had to special order a Bosch OE pump from there warehouse in Illinois because I got tired of putting my crew cab dually gas tank in and out. Too much China made stuff now a days just had to warranty HELLA branded pump in a Hyundai for a sender failure in 9mo’s really disappointing these days

Typical these days I'm afraid. Getting to the point that even OE parts are crap. I got fed up with the parts for the wifes vehicle and hit a yard and bought 2 just to get OE parts from the same suppliers!

Fuel Tank Pressure sensors fail on those habitually as well, causing false evap leak codes because the pressure sensor reads inaccurately. Usually because the owners keep pumping gas to the top of the fuel tank filler neck trying to "squeeze that even dollar amount" into every fill up.

All those keyboard mechaniacs (not a typo) and their trust issues. I think the majority of us out here in the audience would trust a life long mechanic over a keyboard warrior any day of the week. Although I must say reading their comments is always good for a chuckle. I think you should start pinning the most awesome keyboard mechaniac comment for each video. Then we can heckle them at our leisure.
