Happy to see you using a quality starter on this job! Great video and very informative! I was our shop electrical guy, and I can’t tell you how many pigtails I’ve fixed in my career on imports due to cheap plastic on parts that are exposed to high heat cycles and the elements. Working on electrical components was my favorite thing to do! Many hours and low effort on my part. I made a career change and went into the environmental industry, but I miss wrenching on cars every day.

If you use a 1/4" ratchet, short extension, and regular socket, you can sneak it thru the motor mount flange. no need to remove the mount.

I watched this and called BS on the "deterioration" of the connector. Come on - you just busted it. So I'm doing mine, and very carefully remove my connector without damage. Imagine a look of smug satisfaction. I reconnect, and it busts in 3 pieces. I think it was deterioration. Eating humble pie. Thanks for the vids!

@@RBTheMechanic Thanks for responding, my wife told me the vehicle was ticking while trying to start it so I assumed it was the starter without checking for my self. When she got home and I went to check I realized it's the battery so I changed it and everything is working again. Iam located in norhern nj. If something else comes up that iam not familiar with I will reach out to you. Thanks again for responding.

The OEM connector is made out of cheap materials. I managed to break mine with my fingers when I replaced the starter - my 2011 Veracruz Limited FWD has 323K miles! BTW, many OEM parts are cheaply made - e.g., the bolts (3) and nuts (2) in front/sides of the surge tank are junk and easily strip/snap even when torqued under specs which forced me to remove the side studs and replace the bolts/studs above with M6-1.0 x 25 mm Allen drive cap screws by Hillman (from Lowe's and problem solved!). You'll have to remove all the main harness electrical connectors in the driver side to be able to pull them all from the top - including the starter terminal - to have enough room to be able to replace it with a better female spade connector. Break a leg and Merry Christmas 💪💪to all!

@@RBTheMechanic RB, thank you for the part number. Just tried it to no avail so went with a different one (for Kia/Hyundai) and ended up paying $21.38. For that, again thanks 💪🏼. Swapping my starter took me 4 hours - I’m not a mechanic by trade 😂. Putting the messed up harness end back is a pain 😅 Merry Christmas 🎄 for your and your family

I also have a bad connector after replacing my starter. How do I replace the connector? Does it need to be soldered?
@rph2473 жыл бұрын
Same issue here. From replacing the bank 1 (cylinders 1-3-5) valve cover gasket, noticed the main harness has a bunch of connections on the driver side (DS). In order to be able to fix it, the solution making the most sense to me is removing all those connections and pull the ends of the harness including the bad started connector up to have some slack and be able to replace it. A tedious task at best. Always disconnect the negative battery terminal !! Hope this info helps. Merry Christmas to all!
