"I'm not entirely sure what Vergil was going to do with the tower.." *cuts to Arkham unlocking the power of Sparda sealed away within the tower* That. That was his plan. He didn't care about the merging of the human world & the demon world. He just wanted to take Sparda's power for himself which he could reach by unsealing the tower first, it just so happened that Arkham was planning the same thing from the get-go.

vergil's plan was pretty simple, summon the tower, kill(or defeat) his brother, so he can pick his amulet, remove the seal, so he can get to his father sword, use the amulet to power said sword to its original power, use that to kill mundus. summoning the tower works on the 3 things he want, it serves as lure to his brother, it allows him to take the sword and finally, it removes the seal, making him able to cross into the demon world to kill the guy who killed his mother.

@@mitchlucker9150 Honestly, I don't believe Vergil wanted to go to the Underworld to kill Mundus. He may have wanted him dead, but I don't believe it was his intention to meet him when he did. If that was his actual primary goal, I believe he would have told Dante. The cutscene we saw is probably more like a situational thing, where Vergil met the demon responsible for slaughtering his mother and ruining his life, so he just HAD to fight him even if he was exhausted and wounded. (which arguably lead to his "death" and enslavement. So that's just another sign it was a heat of the moment pride decision and not his actual plan)

Okay. Then what? Edit: I mean I obviously know what then, but I mean after that. Disclaimer: To everyone who keeps replying to me, I perfectly understand Vergil's motives to begin with. My point in asking "Then what?" was to question what exactly is he aiming to do if he were to ever accomplish his goals. It's less of a question of curiosity and more so an opening for discussion on his possible end goals.
@gabszz4 жыл бұрын
Vergil and dante story and why their personality are like that, and what their goals really are, all of that have to do with their mother death and how that affected them in different ways. dante is extroverted always trying to have fun, making jokes and messing around with enemies and acting like he doesn't care about nothing, just to hide the sadness that he feels inside, that's the dante in the begining of DMC3, he wants to fight demons to occupy his mind from the sadness and guilt of losing his mother, and meeting lady and seeing her struggle against her own father, makes dante see his own struggle against his past and against his brother, and in the middle of the game he found his purpose because of lady. vergil is cold and collected because he feels responsible about his mother death, because he couldn't protect her, he didn't had the power, or the strength to fight, that's why vergil wants power in DMC 3, to never lose something important to him again
@m.a.k.dynasty45044 жыл бұрын
@@gabszz I already know that part. I'm talking about Virgil's end goal. You know, after he supposedly defeats Dante. What then? What exactly is he going to do with all that power if he has no one to use it against? That's what I'm getting at.

@@m.a.k.dynasty4504 I honestly don't think Vergil has an end goal the KZbinr champion analysis has a video that goes more into the psychology behind the actions of the characters in the games I recommend watching them but in a nutshell, Vergil wants more power so that he will never feel inferior to anyone ever again he is not really seeking power to achieve something but instead is using it as a coping mechanism for the loss of his mother so he really has no end goal. It's kind of like someone self-medicating their depression with alcohol just replace alcohol with demonic power as he has never actually gotten past that moment in his life and he thinks that seeking the power that made Sparda the legend that he was will fix how he feels about that moment.

Arkham is 100% trash, you’re right on that. One thing I think you may have glossed over, is that the second half of the Arkham fight takes away your Devil Trigger and replaces your style move with Vergil teleporting to you. Taking away two key game mechanics and replacing one spontaneously is really asking too much for anyone. It’s ridiculous. The other bosses are okay, and I think you’re right on the gimmicky ones like Geryon, the worm, Jester, The Doppelgänger and Leviathan. Most of these guys are pretty mediocre, if not outright bad. And that foggy octopus is THE WORST enemy in the entire series, right next to the infected chopper in DMC2. And Bob Barbas from the Reboot is basically a better version of Jesters battles. Jester done right. And if the Reboot wasn’t filled with gimmicky boss battles almost in its entirety, I think Bob Barbas would stand out even more as to how creative you can be with a gimmicky boss. While DMC 3 is one of my favourite games of all time, your criticisms really bring to light a lot of issues I’ve ignored or tolerated just because the rest of the game is that damn good. All in all everything you said was very fair.

The foggy octopus (Soul Eater, I think?) definitely fell into the "why do you even exist?" category for me, as they were antithetical to anything that made DMC fun, but at least they were easy to kill with Spiral or E&I. And the boss form of "why do you even exist" would be the Doppleganger, who, again, was just contrary to anything that made DMC fun; it was just a chore that could randomly take longer if the boss decides to do nothing but close lights all day. But for me, the worst regular enemy were those friggin' Fallen (the floaty angel demons with tummy teeth). They were like the classic Sin Scissors inhow they would just float into the environment where they couldn't be touched, had a guard mechanic that made them excessively durable, and had gimmicks to overcome said guard mechanics. But Fallen had waaaay more health, exploited that health by floating in a circular pattern that made them harder to hit, and could nuke you from off-stage with exploding spears. This was mostly fixed in DMC4 with Mephistos and Fausts, who were still a pain in the ass, but were satisfying to squish once you understood how to steal their mist cloaks.

The only wrong way to play these games is to play it in a way that isn't fun for you. I really, really believe that. The whole point of it having as many options as it does is to allow you to craft your own playstyle and go through the game your own way. If you like playing defensively with more dodges or just enjoy seeing Dante flip around and teleport more than you do getting him to do more damage, etc. then that's still a perfectly valid way to play the game.

@Neogears13124 жыл бұрын
Honestly if you look into it there's more than enough signs to show that in the original game Vergil was spouting bs on top of the tower. The game shows that Dante and Vergil more or less have the same issue about lying to themselves. throughout the first half of the game Dante keeps refusing to acknowledge his demonic heritage even denying what he knows about himself unlike 1 where he says he knew as a child he was demonic, and denying he has a father. while vergil is pretending he has a deep reason for wanting power other than a lust for it, saying he needs it to protect people and yet he's only hurting his remaining family through out the game, he stabs Arkham solely because he didn't kill his daughter immediately as arkham stabbing him in the back had no lead up, and shows no signs of genuinely wanting to protect anything, even himself; as he recklessly throws himself at everything including Mundus because of his ego. The big thing that separates them is that Dante does things the hard way. Vergil skips to the top of the tower, Dante climbs it. Dante accepts both parts of his bloodline, Vergil runs harder from it, lashing out when his petty motives are pointed out in the final fight, Dante endures attacks at him and makes a friend who helps him, Vergil starts with an "Ally" and he stabs him in the back mainly so he doesn't have to split the loot. Dante clears the underworlds Legion's and its puzzles to track down Arkham, Vergil just walks by everything that Dante had to resolve. and because of that dante learns more about himself on the hero's journey and grows stronger, while vergil frankly just coasts off his talent and keeps believing the lie he told himself.

DMC3 is good n all... I liked it. But, IMO, all of the Devil May Cry's after DMC1 were not that good because they were too complicated, had TOO many moves(too anime-y), & just didn't have that dark gothic atmosphere that the 1st one captured perfectly! DMC1 actually had the most realistic backgrounds and fights, most demonic enemies (& backgrounds. Towards the end you enter Hell & unholy crap is it scary/exciting & cool!), most shocking & epic moments (& comedy) without going totally overboard &/or cheesy(*cough*DMC5, from the start! And they kill Dante!), and it had the best graphics before the PS3/4 games, which each are just a ball of cheese rolled in cheese. It's also very challenging to beat Dante Must Die mode the first time(pre-Super Dante, which is an amazing reward w/infinite devil trigger!)! It also offers a more personalized sense of style & combat with just the 2 main weapons(Alastor & Ifrit; dope lightning sword & dope fire gauntlets), which each have their own personalized, completely different moveset, strengths & weaknesses, & devil trigger abilities! That's all you needed! Not hundreds of other things to learn. That's annoying. I realize they wanted more money & couldn't just copy the same game, but DMC1 is my favorite of the series, overall the best, & in my top 5 of favorite games of all time! IMO, DMC3 is totally overrated & can be too confusing, both story-wise and where to go/environment-wise. DMC1 is just still underrated & under appreciated. DMC3 has it's flaws, but somehow the fans tend forget them because the good parts are just so great. What people miss about DMC3 that makes it so great, is how they design the particle effect, sound effect, and combat moves to work together to create extremely satisfying combat experience even for new players. Every slash of your sword on to the sin demons creates huge splash of sand or blood, and loud impact sound. Combine that with the mashing mechanic and you get something insane. Doing something like Agni&Rudra's million slash on 3 enemies at once while hearing Agni&Rudra laugh in the background as you chop down the demons senselessly will drown out every thought in your mind leaving you with nothing but pure satisfaction.

@@m.a.k.dynasty4504 It is pretty amazing actually. There is a lot of subtlety in between all the crazy spectacle. Dante learns alot and becomes a much deeper character after his interactions with Lady. He breaks out of his tunnel vision on his own suffering when he sees Lady's determination to end Arkham because of, not only her desire for vengeance, but also because she feels responsible for his actions as her father. Dante learns to embrace all aspects of himself and his family legacy. He matures and becomes responsible because he comes to realize that his father's legacy of defending humanity is worth protecting and embracing for himself (Lady is the one who shows him this, remember the line "because of you I know what's important now"), understanding that it is a goal worth pursuing just as much as avenging his mother is. When he comes to understand the deeds of his father and comes to grip with the fact that Sparda, a demon, fought for the good of mankind, he finally embraces both the demonic and human aspects of himself when in the beginning of the game he rejected his father's heritage. This is why he gains the drive to stop Vergil from destroying that legacy all for a meaningless search of power, even if it would mean killing him. DMC 4 and 5 show us that there is something special in humanity that gives them strength despite their weak bodies and I believe it's the drive to protect what you love, compassion (Remember what Dante says to Urizen when he asks why Dante is so strong, that'll show you what I mean). It's why Dante defeats Vergil in their final bout. He had something greater than himself to fight for, a family legacy he wanted to protect, and, in the end, came to believe in both the good of humanity and his demonic heritage, while Vergil rejects his humanity and has tried to stop himself from feeling compassion or becoming attached to anyone (for good reason). Dante, understanding why Vergil has become calloused, wants to save his brother, hoping that maybe he could get through to him if he gets the chance, but in the end he can't stop his brother from falling to darkness, literally. See what I mean? Silly fun, balanced by deep thoughtful story telling. Fantastic.

@@smgyro1476 Dude. I don't need you to explain to me the basic premise of Devil May Cry. Trust me. I've heard it several times now by people who assume I don't have even the slightest clue of what the story is about. It's really annoying. And for the record, that still doesn't strike me as "amazing". I guess it is compared to what came before in the previous DMC games, but in comparison to other games like God of War, nothing really special. But maybe I'm doing it a disservice comparing it to other things. Even on its own though, it's just... okay. It kinda sucks that this is one of the few times that DMC actual gives us a good story. But still it's not anything ground breaking. It just works for what it is and that's fine. I really don't understand the extreme praise behind DMC 3's story. It's good, but it's not great. @@m.a.k.dynasty4504 I don't think most people think DMC3 has the greatest deepest story ever told. It's no Silent Hill 2, alright? It's a fairly simple straightforward coming of age action story. But I think what makes it so noteworthy is how good the story was told. The execution is top notch especially for action games at the time. And it's a story that uses the medium of it being a videogame to tell itself in a unique way with (in my opinion) some of the greatest pacing a game has ever had.

Fantastic video! Been wating for this one. Before you get into DMC 4, I'd like to present you with some context about it. Hideaki Itsuno, the man took charge as director of DMC from 3 and on, stated that after DMC 3, he felt that he did all he could for the series and Dante's character. DMC 3 was supposed to be the last DMC. However, when the 7th generation of consoles came around, it was demanded by Capcom that a 4th game be released. Since Itsuno was the only experienced director for these games, they put him into the position. There was a problem though. For whatever reason, Devil May Cry 4 was only given the same amount of budget that DMC 3 had. Which is nowhere near sufficient enough for a next gen title. They even took all of the profit they made from the Special Edition version of DMC 3 and put it into 4s budget. Keep this context in mind as it'll explain a lot when you finally sit down and play 4. It's an interesting game to say the least. Once again, fantastic video. There are many high level players in the DMC community that are very kind and all around sweethearts. However, like with any fandom, there's always a toxic bunch. Please don't let them ruin your enjoyment of these games and any game for that matter. DMC has it especially bad. Considering how unique of a series it is, in regards to it's very strange development, and the nature of the games themselves.

What you said near the end about breaking out of those "self-imposed house rules" making the game more fun is what happened with me and Bayonetta. I had already played through every DMC game, and thought I could beat Bayonetta pretty easily but even on Normal trying to go through the whole game without using any healing items is BRUTAL. Whereas DMC feels like it was balanced around not using items (hence why DMCV got rid of them entirely sans Gold Orbs) Bayonetta does not, unless you completely master it and never take damage.
@Walamonga13134 жыл бұрын
I literally just finished Bayonetta for the first time yesterday (Normal mode) and it doesn't give you healing in game at all like DMC. The very very rare healing "orbs" you get heal you for pathethic amounts lol
@ExaltedUriel4 жыл бұрын
@@Walamonga1313 That's what I meant when I said DMC felt more balanced about not using items; in all games when you enter Devil Trigger you slowly regenerate health (a cool detail is that Vergil ALSO regenerates health in DT in his 2nd and 3rd fights!), and on top of that when you kill enemies in DT they have a higher chance of dropping Green Orbs. Bayonetta has no similar tranformation, and enemies dropping health is rare and not substantial, so expecting a totally new player to play the whole game on Normal difficulty without using items is less reasonable than asking them to do the same in almost any DMC game.

If someone is telling you to jump cancel on your first playthrough ignore them entirely. It's not as hard in 3 but that's wholly unnecessary and not at all needed to even get an SS in DMD, it would make things easier though. As for Trickster, I personally don't see the problem so long as you don't ignore the other mechanics entirely. I just think it's odd you say that it doesn't feel like enemies are built for Dante. Except for the ones you listed I think there's a response to every enemy and boss's gimmick no matter the style, some are just better than others. This fact is part of why people praise 3 so much and access to all styles break the difficulty a bit. I do think you're on the money about us fans just knowing these things is why would have an easier time than most. I personally understood the styles on my first playthrough but it took me most of that playthrough to get it. For that reason I'm glad you don't just start with Freestyle in the Switch port of 3. I've always thougt release order was best because you get that nice escalation in mechanics and that restriction in 3 makes sure you learn one style so you won't be as lost by the time of 4, the most mechanically demanding in the series.
@jonnysac774 жыл бұрын
M7 S4i5l8v2a Jump Cancel is very handy though?, not just for extending combos into infinity but it's also for escaping situations where you would've taken a hit, it's one of the best defensive moves you have in the air and your telling him to ignore people who tell him to use it?
@M7S4I5L8V2A4 жыл бұрын
@@jonnysac77 He needs to learn how to walk before he can run. He said it himself how little he explored personally. Maybe he can learn for 5 but he's barely able to in 3 and he sure as hell won't be able to in 4. The best we could hope from him is telling him that Enemy Step resets aerial moves but it's only really that strong in 4 and 5 where you have style switching. In addition to the fact that Eneny Step costs currency because of how powerful it is. He likely won't end up buying it until long after the reviews because of that. Again maybe in 5 but there's tons more for him to explore instead of buying Enemy Step for Dante and Nero. 5 has more moves than any any action game out there but all of the characters also share an Orb pool.

I totally agree with this. My first playthrough of DMC3 was a blast, and I never switched away from Swordmaster. I almost exclusively used agni and rudra/rebellion, and hardly touched the guns. I think developing your own playstyle and learning the game for yourself has a lot to do with what I like about these games. Eventually, i tried the other styles and started working new techniques and strategies into my gameplay, but I still feel unique because the core of my gameplay is definitely still coloured by my first playthrough.
@jonnysac774 жыл бұрын
M7 S4i5l8v2a I just think it's silly to say it's not needed for late game and higher difficulty playthroughs when it's one of your most powerful tools in the game, even if you only use it to jump away from enemies and bosses, it really isn't as hard as your presenting it, especially in 5 where the hitboxes are so ridiculously large
@Rafael-rn6hn4 жыл бұрын
Actually the most interesting part of this review for me was hearing about the unflattering parts of the game. When you love a game so much, it's easy for everything to kind of blur together into a blob of awesomeness and forget or even discount the frustrations of that first playthrough (or onwards). Of course, your particular ability to convey and put together those points is also an important factor. As for 'haters', don't worry, it does not matter what you say, someone somewhere is going to find fault and sperg out about it, so might as well speak your mind. I've heard plenty of arguments of gameplay vs story in games, but I think both are important in different ways. Great gameplay is what's going to make a game _fun_ , a game to come back to again and and again. A powerful story is what's going to make a game memorable and epic, going to give it an emotional connection beyond that momentary feeling of pulling off a great combo. DMC3 for me is the best in the series and it does have a lot to do with the story. Both 4 and 5 did not 'tick off those boxes' for me. And yes, DMC3 is not the gold standard of story, but it is cogent and clear enough to make it's point, while building off of strong characters and the tension in their relationships. When it comes to the other games, I really don't care much for the story or perhaps even feel like cringing to it a lot of the time. In closing, the only thing I'd consider "bad" is using items. And it's got nothing to do with "who's cool and who's not cool" kind of dogma, it's about efficiency in resources and opportunities; the gameplay experience and difficulty balance. Especially as you now respawn from a checkpoint, dying to a boss is totally not a problem. It also works as a skill threshold. Consider what happens when relying on items to beat a boss: while using items you may beat _that_ boss, but what about the next one? It has the negative effect of stunting growth in the face of what generally would be (or at least ideally should be) a great opportunity to develop those skills. Worse of all, those items are competing with other, more "useful", things from your red orb pool. So now you're not getting access to more advanced moves or useful upgrades either. That's why consumable items in DMC feel out of place to me; they prevent people from experiencing all the game has to offer. At any rate, great review as always.

Worth the wait! Honestly, this review series feels very fresh just by your own perspective as someone who wasn't brought up to be a long time action game fan. I appreciate how you're trying to engage with all styles and mechanics that the game has to offer rather than just picking what works and sticking with it for the rest of the game. And yeah, don't worry too much about the DMC fandom shaming you for not being "good enough". DMC in both it's gameplay and community only exists to encourage you to do more rather than shame you for not doing enough.

The reason Action games never really surpassed 3 is because they never really had a chance to grow. You'll probably figure out why 4 doesn't surpass 3 but at the time other series also had their issues on top of the genre being pretty niche. Post 2010 we also had a bit of a drought with only Platinum Games being the only ones trying to push the genre while also being chained by other companies and held down by limited money. There wasn't really anyone else trying anything but them, Sony with GoW, THQ with Darksiders, and Team Ninja with Nioh. To me DMCV marks a new beginning of not just DMC but Action games in general. Today we have the comeback of DMC. NG in the form of Nioh, and Bayo on the horizon. Platinum also has some leeway and these games are being noticed and remembered. I don't think this is happening because of DMC but DMCV did come at a great time. I won't like everything in this new era but I do like that we have more people trying that aren't just the same people we've always relied on.

Fun fact: did you know that each mission has its number written somewhere in the intro cutscene? I've been coming back to DMC3 after a few years; back then I used to perfect Trickster as soon as I could and then Air Trick the shit out of everything just to feel stylish (and to avoid damage). Now I realize I was a total noob as I learned to switch weapons while experimenting with styles such as Quicksilver and Doppelganger to beat easier bosses like Leviathan, and I'm having a blast. In the meantime I try to learn Royalguard as best as I can because holy hell, that style has huge potential to be THE ultimate slaying style. It *only* requires mastering parrying enemy attacks, but after you've built enough anger you can *annihilate* even the most powerful boss in a couple of hits. When I manage to kill a Hell Vanguard with a Just Release Dante just appears behind its corpse, then I make him stand there still for a couple instants like some badass bushido final technique when the samurai sheathes his sword and the enemy falls apart. It's awesome. And I still have to uncover Gunslinger and Swordmaster. I'm at mission 18, not planning to beat the game any time sooner (mission 20 just frightens me, hands down), just coming back at previous missions and warming up well (trying to understand as many things I can about all styles, weapons and guns) before "the main event". All in all yeah, by my personal experience, Trickster is a good style if you're learning the basics, but if you wanna have real fun, try and experiment EVERYTHING. It's totally worth it. You'll eventually come up with _your own style_ . I've even been using Kalina Ann even if in my very first playthroughs I've been outright ignoring it all along, but the massive splash damage and shockwave can make short story of a bunch of lesser foes in an instant (and clear up an elevator in a couple of hits *hint hint* ).

after you play the games, go back and play as vergil. its insane how fun he is. i would even say he feels even better to control than dante in dmc3, dmc4 made him even more overpowered, with the extra mechanics, and because he can take even more advantage of the momentum.

You made me realize why I struggled to finish DMC3. I felt the same feeling. The controls felt tight when I played it couple of years ago, but the levels felt like they dragged on

i think 4 is on par with 5 in combat due to the momentum mechanic, which makes the combat flow even better. 5 still tops it, but 4 is alot closer than people give credit. dmc5 is finally getting ldh mode which is a massive plus, and of course ,vergil(finally), making it even better.

The original PS2 release DMC3's Normal mode was actually Japan's Hard Mode. When i played it back in the day, you wouldnt believe how many times i died to cerberus. Then i found out you can repeat the first mission over and over to get more red orbs to level up your health and weapon moves, upgrade swordmaster, gunslinger, etc

If anybody claims that Arkham is an easy fight, especially as a first time experience, they're absolutely trying to shit on you to boost their ego. But I'm happy to hear you wanting to explore the abyss that is DMC difficulty. When enemies are able to trigger, that really amps things up and changes the dynamic completely. If you're looking to dive into Dante Must Die mode, I'd recommend maybe revisiting DMC1 to try it's DMD mode and see if your opinions of it's gameplay changes.

Heh. Now I just have this mental image of a two-panel comic of two kids, one going "hey, wanna come over to my house and play DMC2?" And the other replies with "nah, I'm...I've got things to do, sorry." Next shot is a split-screen of the one kid just throwing things into a hole they dug and having more fun than the kid playing DMC2. So thanks for that, and another great video. o/ Also christ, I forgot about that gods-awful worm and those stupid bloodgoyles, soul eaters and the fallen. Urrrghhh. Probably on purpose.

You dont do enough damage and devil trigger is not allowed because of vergil so your source of healing is locked off. Great video man

the complaint on dmc 3 bosses kinda goes away when you figure out every single enemy is made to measure up to Dante's moves. the reaper can be parried, cerberus can be stunned if you make his chain be stretched to max when you break the ice, agni rudra teaches you to balance how you deal damage to 2 enemies, instead of focusing on 1 at a time, the worm teaches you the rhythm to dodge on visual queues, vergil 1 teaches you how to chain your own moves and their blind spots, leviathan can be abused by its model having a top part you can jump on for the right side appendix, geryon's chariot can be stood on for consistant strikes, beowulf tracks your position after every punch, forcing you to change your combos, vergil2 teaches you how to use beowulf, nevan teaches you audio queues and devil trigger immunity to some attacks, doppelganger teaches you to use your enemy's movement against itself, jester teaches patterns, arkham can fuck right off, I mean, teaches you gunslinger air abuse (bet you didn't consider it, even after spending most of the fight jumping and shooting, right?) and vergil 3 puts all you learned to the test. tldr: cheese best food

This remains the only Devil May Cry game I've played all the way through. I sometimes hesitate to say I'm a fan of the franchise when it was mostly just I loved DMC3, but at least it's spurred me to start exploring the others. Still one of my favorite action games ever. You do definitely have a point about Arkham; I think most people agree with you he's the worst boss fight in the game, especially since you can immediately contrast him to yet another terrific boss fight with Vergil right after. There is some poetic justice in Lady's Kalina Ann being one of the best weapons for clearing his adds, but even that doesn't salvage it. It kinda seemed like the bigger the bosses got the less fun they were to fight; DMC3 has phenomenal duel bosses but Cerberus and Beowulf are the only real giant monster fights that compare, in my book. I wouldn't worry about using Trickster, either, it's very popular for good reason. Royal Guard is the style for when you've really gotten into the system and wanna show off, from my experience, but there's a lot of really impressive stuff you can do with trickster, too. Dante's playstyle in 3 4 and 5 definitely seems designed for a "pick your favorites and do it your way" approach to the battle, so your philosophy should serve you well! Glad someone new enjoyed playing DMC3!

That's me but with DMC1. I absolutely love that game. 100% it too. DMC2? I basically slogged through it spamming guns while doing something else. DMC3? Great start and challenging gameplay, then I just bored of it cause the setting and enemies aren't even close to DMC1's. I never finished 3.

T.R TOM A lot of people worship DMC 3's boss fights, but I enjoyed 4's bosses more. Sure, 3 had Vergil, Agni and Rudra, Nevan, and maybe Cerberus (I actually thought this fight was boring, because you're stuck in a limited space with little mobility), but it also had some horrible bosses. Gigapede, Leviathan, and Arkham were awful. Geryon is meh. DMC 4 had a bunch of fun bosses. I thoroughly enjoyed The fights with Dante (both of them, but especially mission 10), Berial, Agnus, Sanctus, and especially Credo, which is easily the best boss in the game. In fact, the only boss I outright hated was that stupid statue in mission 15 (I think that's the right number) because it was hard for me to build up consistent style whilst having to destroy those stupid orbs.

What i notice about bosses is that they all test your abilities. 1. First mini boss tests your basic combos and dodges 2. Cerberus tests your juggles - staggering boss to get all out on him or simple air combos 3. Centipede tested maneuvering on the groud with all its moveset and an ability to get in the most suited positions 4. Agni and Rudra may test positioning, staggering(you can parry their attacks to disarm them), your crowd control and understanding of an in game strategies 6. First Vergil tests all of the above since all his moves are meant to control you, so now you need to learn how counter enemies not simply by outpowering them, but in a more complicated way 7. Nevan gives you a little time to test how much damage can you put in a short pause, makes you dodge all the crap she throws at you and have very specific cycle of actions, so player can learn that too 8. Beowulf is not a boss to just push all the way till he dies, so now player needs to learn to use boss's brhavior for their own good, like hits in the eyes, countering pillars to gain health, using long attack animations to attack 9. Gerion is just fast and demands movement and an ability to move right in the arena 10. Second Vergil has all the moves Dante has, so now player needs to learn to attack all the time - Vergil is DT, attack, Vergil attacks, counter attack, position yourself in the arena and punish Vergil for every opening he shows after his moves cycle ends. 11. Shadow just sucks 12. Arkham too 13. Third Vergil is just Third Vergil, good luck beating him if you havent learnt all the techniques your playstyle provides you with

Hey great vid, I left a comment about the story I hope you end up seeing, but I also wanted you to know that you should just play the game the way that allows you to enjoy it. Take that from someone who is good enough at doing all the crazy high technical stuff in DMC, like jump canceling, guard canceling, and the numerous new tech in DMC 4 and 5. Just have some fun. If you want to though I can recommend to you a control scheme that helps make jump canceling easier. I have one for all the playable characters. Tell me if you interested, then I'll make another comment with the details.

You mentioned being a bit confused about Vergils motivation for raising the tower and it is basically that Sparda sealed his power inside of the tower and Vergil wants that power for himself but in order to get it he needs to unlock the seal on the tower which also acts as a seal on the demon world so it's not so much that he wants to merge the human and demon worlds instead the merging is more of a conscience of him reaching his goal but I can see where it can be a bit confusing

Another treat from the Golden Age of gaming. This game was highly inspiring for me as a teen. I'm not big into hack 'n' slash games, but Dynasty/Samurai/Orochi/etc. Warriors and Devil May Cry games have always stuck with me ever since I first tried them. I consider them quite unique in the hack 'n' slash genre. The cutscenes in this game are also a delight. Now I'm the kind of person who has no problem with cutscenes and watches them every playthrough for a more complete experience, but this is the kind of game that makes cutscenes really a great thing. Another game with fantastic rewatchable cutscenes off the top of my head is Saints Row 2, which is a great comparison. A decent story and some pretty good characters too. The best character of course being Dante himself, stealing the show every moment of the game. The worst character, however, is the female character Lady/Mary. Her constantly sticking her gun in Dante's face gets annoying and she also has the kind of grumpy personality no man would want to put up with, heh. I know she's supposed to have a burning stick up her ass, but it's executed in an annoying way. She does finally decide to ditch her tryhard tough girl routine and fold near the end of the game, which adds some redeeming femininity and cuteness, but it's too little too late. This game is also very approachable. There are difficulty levels for everyone. And the automatic mode is a real treat, letting you have fun without having to make the button mashing complicated. If you're not into hack 'n' slash but are interested in this game, don't be afraid to give it a shot! You may just like this one. And hell, if not the gameplay, then the overall presentation, atmosphere and story might keep you coming back! Although the gameplay is really fun and the unlocks are sweet! Anyone remember how fun and satisfying unlocking things was?

I remember playing this game back in 2005 when i was 10 years old and finishing up to the dmd mode. The hardest encounters that i remember was bewolf, nevan and cerberus. My point is this game is not suposed to be super hard or dificult, it is meant to have a super cool combat system and let the player stylish it the way he wants, and beeing able to unlock so many moves and new ways to play the game is what makes de replayability so good. Also i can completelly agree when you talk about the frustation of fiding an enemy that removes all of that fun from the combat.
