This visitor center and highway rest area on I-295 South in Lincoln, RI was originally built in the early 1970’s along with Rhode Island’s stretch of the Interstate. By the 1990’s, it and its twin on the opposite side of the highway were permanently closed due to issues with upkeep and vandalism. In 2006, the brand-new Blackstone Valley Visitor Center and trailhead opened on the northbound side, and while it too had a twin planned for the southbound side, funding fell through and it was never built. Nearly 20 years later and the 50-year-old original building still stands and continues to deteriorate. Thanks for watching! @@marcberm I mean some of us know what really happened there but the state is going to try to cover it up as much as possible lol

@@TheOrginalPrincessColey I had my suspicions, but I haven't been able to find *any* information or news stories about the old north and south rest areas. Only stuff related to the plans to replace both with the new visitor centers, of which only the northbound side was ever built.

@@marcberm unfortunately you probably won’t. The state has a way with making things disappear that they don’t want us to know. I’ve heard through the grapevine that this was a meet-up place for gay men. I can’t confirm but it’s what’s been passed around from eye witnesses

Yep. And if I looked hard enough, there's probably evidence in the Projo/Valley Breeze police blotters and arrest logs from back in the day. Either way, figured I'd keep it light for the yoo toobz lol.
