I did it, I actually watched James Corden in Camila Cabello in Cinderella 2021.
Big thanks to Noble Lucy for watching Cinderella 2021 with me.
It was painful to watch, twice... Had to remake the video nearly 3 times. The last video I did called "How James Corden Went From "Lovable Brit" to Intolerable Brat..." became a massive hit on this channel. I went into detail about James Corden became a bit of a brat.
But I did say in that video that I'd watch this film if that video got over 500 likes. Safe to say that goal was achieved.

They could have explained the 'nobody will recognise you' part by saying "only people who love you or what you do will recognise you" that would put a weight on the fact that the step mother and sisters don't love her or what she does but the prince loves her and the other queen loves her dresses.

Btw Cinderella’s name is actually Ella. It even explains that in the original story, and by that I mean the Brothers Grim fairy tale. She’s called Cinderella because she is always covered in soot from cleaning the fireplace which hides her beauty.

It's odd that so many people think of the classic Disney movies as 'the originals' when even the Grim brothers' collection was an anthology of oral tradition. Some of the stories in Disney's classics are so old I wouldn't be surprised if on the course of bombing Iraq they find a clay tablet telling how they enjoyed a story about a pristess that lives with 7 dwarves and gets cursed with sleep from a poisoned fig, the despot's son wakes her up with a kiss and makes her his concubine.

I will have to say that it's neat that they went with the original line of reasoning for Cinderella's name (yeah, her name actually was Ella, and because of all the chores she had to do she got a lot of soot on her from the fireplace, so her mean stepsisters called her Cinder Ella), but seems like they completely missed the fact that this detail was originally there to characterize the stepsisters. Not surprising.

I saw a clip of Cinderella and the Fab G, and knew that I already hated it, so I never watched it. Having watched this review, it's clear that they didn't understand, and I'm fact held contempt for the source material, which is a real shame! The Take's take on Cinderella as a strong yet soft and feminine role model is spot on when they mention that people hold such contempt for women being strong and independent in other ways than being an assertive businessswoman. You can be feminine, caring, sensitive and kind, but still be smart, strong and independent.

It's so interesting to me that Disney's Cinderella, a old folk tale that has been done so many times before and after Disney, has become the default "Original" Cinderella. They even did a lifeaction remake themselves some years back, and this look more similar to that one if anything. And I get it, that was one of the best versions of the story still and it's interesting how they completely lost the sense of whimsy and personal stakes that made it interesting.

To be fair, there have been great films (and TV episodes in particular) that have come out of having stuff around and making do with what you've got. One of the strange things about art is the more restrictions an artists has or puts on themselves, the better it tends to be. However, in this case they didn't think or try, they just wanted to make things... Quirky. Trying to market a film to an audience they didn't understand, but at the same time knew it was an easy target audience and they had a chance to be upheld as this spotless amazing thing cause they dated to have such diversity and courage and blah blah blah. Corporate marketing, especially in entertainment, has gotten really weird, pandering, and disgusting. Honestly, everyone on all sides should be disgusted and offended by it.

Or this was a case of 'they backed the dump truck of money right up to my door'. I'm not surprised at Pierce Brosnan or Minnie Driver (king and queen) 'cos they're actors - they've been in bombs before and they will be again. But the above were comedians I actually liked and respected! WTF. Anyone thinking this movie is woke or politicized is kinda of a brainlet tbh. This movie is straight up safe-pandering crap: from the "we have people of color and gays, look!" to the "female role model that needs no man", except the people of color and the gays are all tokenized, the "female that needs no man" still needs man to network and the prince's sister still uses nepotism to perpetuate the noble class. It's the movie equivalent of saying "I have nothing against X group people, I even have friends that are X". Honestly, if they just committed to entirely corrupting the formula, it could have been at least entertaining to watch. Just imagine Cinderella forming a Guerrilla, committing domestic terr0rism against the royal family and being a informant to Soviet Russia. Now that's woke!

And while there is no Terorism the movie (which is a condensed version of the series that runs heavily on symbolism) has our main character turn into a car to become her lover Anthy's vehicle of escape(she turns back later.) And so the two girls have to escape the setting as it literally and actively tries to kill them because they are no longer following the Narative. Calling Disney's Cinderella "the original" is a really weird take. Actually comparing these two movies in general, as if they have anything in common other than the base folkstory, is super weird.
@zedmiasma7304
@zedmiasma7304 2 жыл бұрын
Well the Disney one IS the original. It was the first animated Cinderella movie. So yea, that would mean it’s the original. Of course it’s based on a story, but again it’s the first animated Cinderella story and let’s be honest here, without no one would know anything about Cinderella. And it’s obvious why you compare it. Why the fuck would anyone make a Cinderella movie. At that point you make a movie with a different name and slightly different story instead of calling it Cinderella and having self aware mice. Just like the Disney movie. They could’ve done so many different things but instead they tried to copy and failed.
@Burred11
@Burred11 2 жыл бұрын
@@zedmiasma7304 Cinderella is a folktale. Likely having existed for over a 1000 years. The first written record of it was in the 17th century, roughly 150 years before the Brothers Grimm. There was a big theatrical performance of Cinderella in 1804. Heck, just in terms of Cinema there were a Cinderella films in 1899 and in 1911. No, Disney, like with most of their movies, were not The Original. in 1950 Disney mealy adapted the story. Just like this 2021 movie did. Which, speaking of your second point: You say that the two movies are obvious to compare, yet substantiate that claim by saying 'What's the point of adapting Cinderella, it already exists, just do something else'. Which 1) That's how storytelling has literally always worked. You take something familiar, and put a spin to it, adapt it, into something new. It's what Disney did, it's what they did here in 2021. And 2) You contradict yourself with this very point. Cinderella already existed, why didn't Disney just make an original story themselves, why did they make Cinderella? to use your own words, why the fuck would anyone make a Cinderella movie in the 1950's? The answer to why is quite simple: Brand recognition. If you are going to tell your version of a story, why not be up front about it? Even Shakespeare was. And doing it is not even a bad thing, it's a totally ok thing to do, as per 1) Also you never gave any reason as to why you should compare the two movies.
@plzletmebefrank

@@Burred11 I wouldn't consider a 6 minute silent short from before the dawning age of cinema... A "film". At the very least it gives entirely the wrong impression that you're talking about what we would consider to be a theatrically released film. Other than that, I just want to point out... This Cinderella movie seems to make clear callbacks to the animated one. I don't remember most Cinderella stories featuring talking mice to that extent. It has similar story beats and structure. It seems designed to remind you of and parody the Disney Animated Film. So it's not totally incorrect to compare the two.
@MissCaraMint
@MissCaraMint 2 жыл бұрын
@@plzletmebefrank It’s not wrong to compare the two, but it is not correct to call the 1950s Cinderella the original. Even if we discount both the 1899 and the 1911 Cinderella as not feature length, that would still only make Cinderella from 1950 the first feature length film adaptation, not the first film. Then you have the fact that the original story is again a good deal older. The most famous version is the Charles Perrault one, but it is far from the original itself. One of the oldest versions is actually from China, and there is also an ancient greek version that has a lot of the same elements that we see in the story later. Point is when dealing with something so nebulous as a fairy tale you can’t sling around the word original at all, because we don’t know what the original is. As for saying that «original» is a reference to the original or fist movie adaption would also be incorrect since two older versions do exist. So in order to clarify you would have to say «the original full length feature film» which is a mouth full, and also still isnt stricktly true since a Soviet produced full length Cinderella film came out in 1947. Not to mention the even earlier Polish variant Mamele which is a then modern adaptation of the story. Both of these were musicals too. Of course you could say that those don’t count and clarify that you ment only english language movies, but again you run into a problem. Turns out the woman who was the very first «Americas Sweetheart» Mary Pickford stared in the 1914 movie Cinderella. Featuring pumpkin, glass slipper, and mice. As well as rats for footmen (which is actually closer to this version than thw 1950s one). The 1950s movie uses the mice for horses, just as the 1914 movie does. However for the driver and foot men the 1950s version actually uses the old horse and the old dog, while the 1914 version uses three rats. This adaption gloses compleatly over the horses entierly and just adds three mice as three footmen. This is visually much closer to the 1914 version, but I guess they figured mice were cuter than rats so the change was made. Of course the pimpkin carriage, glass slippers, mice as horses, and rats as footmen are all Charles Perralt’s details so I don’t think they are refferencing the 1914 film by doing this. It’s rather a call back to Charles Perrault himself, with influence from the 1950s Cinderella. With a dash of influence from the 2015 Disney live action, and other famous Cinderella adaptations like Ella Enchanted (movie adaption). The latter of which does the indipendent main Cinderella and the fusion of modern and middle ages tech faaaar better than this one does. It also does the inclusion of the Juke Box musical style far better. Seems not entierly likely that this movie is taking inspiration from Ella Enchanted as it too has a lot of similar plot beats. Bearing all this in mind, the best way to reffer to the disney move is simply to say the 1950s Cinderella adaption, or the disney movie.

@@MissCaraMint ... That's a whole lot of information... But yeah. You're correct that original is the wrong word. But it definitely makes sense to compare Cinderella movies to the Disney animated classic. Especially when they clearly were meaning to reference it in multiple ways. It's also quite possible it pulls more other from movies, especially in terms of musical style, costuming, setting, etc. And it's also accurate that many modern retellings of fairy tales share lots of plot beats with each other.

I think a more apt comparison to this version of Cinderella isn't the classic Disney Cinderella, but rather Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. the choreography and humor seem to be derivative of the stage show. in R&H's, the stepfamily is comically evil (the mother is, the sisters are hilariously dim), the royals are silly and banter with each other. the only characters that are really taken at face value are the Prince and Cinderella. the stage version almost brings the elements of the classic story to their most absurd or logically extreme. some of the costumes (especially the more outlandish ones (especially the fairy godmother's)) in this movie seem to be derivative of the Wonderful World of Disney production of R&H's Cinderella, with Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother. also I've seen many other saying this: a lot of these plot points are a part of the original folk tellings and Grimm Brothers version as well. there are many versions of Cinderella and this might be the worst one.
