EDIT: The Good The Bad and The Ugly is not a referance you guys, it just popped in my head. And turns out it wasn't vocals that made that sound, it was an instrument called theremin, which sounds quite nice, right?

It's amusing seeing all you wannabe musicians criticize Roger Waters redux. It's even more amusing hearing your fools claim it sucks or the album is ruined.. I find it amusing because his fellow band members from Floyd have called it genius.. which it is, because they understand what it is about. See the fact of the matter is you're a worthless wannabe musician, and secondly you're also a supporter of political BS, which renders you highly uneducated and incapable of understand anything more intelligent than a South Park episode.

There's no theremin in Morricone's score. The main musical motif is restated at several points throughout 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' with different instruments taking the melody. Flute, ocarina, yodeling, whistling (by Alessandro Alessandroni) and, yes, sung, wordless vocals, including those done by a choir.

He wanted to take Pink Floyd out of the album. He even took himself out in a way. He plays bass on only one track. This album is “Dark Side” as a poetry reading with incidental music as a backing track. Waters completely eliminated everything but the words. Even the concept, which was his, that included the background voices, clock, and cash register sounds. All that’s left is Roger reading his words, but he’s shorter of breath and closer to death.

Dark Side of the Moon isn't ruined. The original album and recording is still out there for us to enjoy. Dark Side of the Moon Redux is a different beast, and probably ego-driven. It's okay (or not, depending upon your own taste), but it doesn't ruin the original. I think the original 1973 version is in a different league, but whatever the pros and cons of re-recording the album, to do so in a way that makes it sound as close to the original is even more pointless. Redux is a reasonable listed late in front of the fire on a cold night with a glass of whisky and a big cigar.

The only gripe i had was he talked so much, that a lot of people had to leave to get trains as he already was late so people missed out on a few songs. The lady using the theremin was amazing, and the lighting was sick. gave me the chills. Definitely not a replacement of the original but refreshing and different flavour. He also performed mother too😱and he put alot more power into his vocals during mother Oaks ma recorded it wish he put that much effort into the redux vocally but amazing show overall

i actyally love this album- the themes of TDSOTM are much more present in Redux, and Roger being an old man changes the relationship between the listener and the lyrics. Don't view this as trying to be like the original - view it as a reflection on a life lived. The original album is all about the woes of living and is almost a lashing out against it, whereas this one reads as more meditative and at peace with the trials and tribulations of life. Using the lyrics of Free Four in a new way was absolutely genius - when roger says "you are the angel of death. And i am the dead mans son" it hits a million times harder than the original free four ever did. Anyway, just my two cents! I love his take on the album, but i get that its not for everyone. Much less musically driven, now the music is simply a vehicle and the poetry of the album is brought to the forefront. Peace!

@@guitarworks2546 I'm a musician too, but appreciate Rogers writing as an integral part of what made Floyd sound like Floyd. This is not a pink floyd album, it's a roger waters album, and if you want to listen to pink floyd you can listen to the original! I think he did redux very tastefully, and as I said earlier, allowed the poetry in TDSOTM to really breathe. this album is not about the music. Floyd post waters is a good example of style without substance, and you could argue the opposite with Waters post floyd. nevertheless, different strokes for different folks. I play keys and guitar in the style of Wright and Gilmour but I could never write like roger does so I really appreciate his talents in that area. Roger, aa far as l can tell, did this purely out of spite. The Mt. Everest of ego's. Ironic really considering what he's written in his life that he mirrors some of the very qualities of humanity he held disdain for. I don't think Dave would or even should be affected. I think after the break-up after "The Final Cut" that Dave had no interest in giving his own power away again. Roger seems to me, someone who sucks up the energy for himself and wouldn't like reading this comment. I don't like making this comment as l to like Roger, but he's an 80 year old child right now and enough is enough. 40 year feud. I really didn't expect this idiocy to last this long.

I thought it was perfect, it wasn't Waters trying to top DSOTM, because lighting can't strike twice. He did it in such a wonderful way, that only a genius like waters could have pulled it off, the striped down parts with the added orchestral strings are gorgeous. We already have a masterpiece in the original, so this, for me, is a welcome addition. As far as I'm concerned, I see it as a nice chilled work of art, and it's all the better for it.

I don't get this mindset: why is something ruined by making a reinterpretation? You can not ruin something that way since the original is still available. People can not bear if tech is not changing every week - they rave about the newest iOS but get a norvous breakdown if an artist reinterprets their 50 years old work! To me, iOS is ruining my old phone, literally really, because I can not downgrade it. But you can "downgrade" Dark Side Of The Moon Redux if you don't like it - just listen to the original album and you will be fine. Trust me: it's not the end of the world, it's just an eclipse.

Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973. It was on the charts from 1973 to July 1988, as it should have been. A new version of DSOTM can not possibly ruin the old version. How could it? If you don't like Redux, don't listen to it. You can always listen to the original DSOTM. Tell me, did Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" ruin the original by Dylan? well Martha, thank you for the comment, but after Hendrix' version of "All Along The Watchtower", story goes that Dylan listened to it and said: "this song is your now" (i'm not sure if that's true but something like this happened). I admit just like I did in the video, I like some of the songs. It's good. But overall it's bad and it's not even an original cover. There's no difference between breathe and eclipse in REDUX. both seem the same. it's not "refreshing" as some people might say. if on the other hand, there was different inputs on the original one, maybe some instruments, maybe some of the songs were dark and some were not, maybe any colour you like had different lyrics, maybe great gig in the sky had that tension we were looking for, this wouldn't be bad. I understand music is mostly subjective, but there are rules to creating good piece of art and there are tons of great record over the year prove that, thick as a brick, led zeppelin III, I don't like it but sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band, electric ladyland, thriller, highway 61 revisited, machine head.....

@@mustyguitar I like your taste in music. Let's face it, the original lyrics still hold up. I think Redux is great. Sure, it has the sound of a beat poem from the '50's, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Waters did add some new lyrics, but I think they work. It is all subjective. In any case, I don't understand what all the fuss is about when it comes to Redux. It is just another version from the person who wrote the lyrics in the first place.

It is possible to not compare because it isn't the same album. You dont need to think about what he said or didn't say, just listen to the album. I don't really understand your logic that because he says he wrote DSOTM (which he did, lyrics and chords), this album has to be directly compared. One thing doesn't lead to the other.. Btw, Free four was his track on OBCs and it was pretty basic. It was THE Roger Waters track on that album like 'if' was on atom heart mother. The others had very little input on that one. There were no compromises.

This is The Darker Side of the Moon! How can the use of the lyrics from Free Four be a rip off? More, recycled I'd say. I can't get into this version at all. I like the Lockdown Sessions, they made sense, but this doesn't to me. A pity, because with a bit more musicality behind it, it could be amazing!

Dark Side is probably the most remade album ever. You don't like it, don't listen to it. The original is still there, if you can decide which mix and which remastering you want.

In time new generations will enjoy this version of DSOTM. My teenage son (and some friends of his) find the classic '73 version overrated and slightly boring. He finds Waters version more relevent. I find his opinions interesting.

MustyGuitar I am a huge Roger Waters fan and i enjoy all of his solo works , until this , as far as i am concerned , this album should never have been made , i actually found it hard to listen to , it is nearly totally devoid of anything even near music , Please Roger , if this is what you intend to produce from now on , pack up the music game and retire gracefully with an absolutely amazing catalogue to look back on .

I do like this version (certainly nowhere near as much anything Pink Floyd produced but I do like it). The problem with the album if you ask me is that it isn’t really musical and it strips away a lot of what made the original so amazing, it’s certainly trying to appeal to a niche demographic rather than trying to produce something great like original Dark Side of The Moon. I must say that I do like Time Redux and Breath Redux (again still nowhere near as much as the original)

you just gave words to my feelings man. This is the problem, yeah. I'm not saying it should be universal and it should move everyone, but it's very obvious he wants some people to hate this, intentionally, if that makes sense.

What makes DSOTM so great is David Gilmours soaring 🎸 guitar with Rogers lyrics it is just a thing of beauty . Roger has made a pigs ear of this remake just don't bother with it so so awful 😞 am sad about the whole project .

Anlamıyorum, sen bile kendi yorumunu katıyorsun cover başlıklı sololarda. Bizzat bunu belirterek, buraya böyle bir yorum kattım diyerek coverladım diyorsun. David Gilmour solosu üzerine bunu yapabiliyorsun ancak büyük bir çoğunluğunun Roger’a ait olduğunu bildiğimiz projeye tekrardan kendi yorumunu katmasına bu seviyede defalarca kötü mü diyorsun? Minik bir alıntı senin için. You're nearly a good laugh, Almost a joker. With your head down in the pig bin sayin’ keep on digging'. Pig stain on your fat chin, What do you hope to find?

Is it just me, or is the spoken word section in the middle of Money absolutely nothing to do with the message of the track, and 100% just slagging off David Gilmour? 🤔

You obviously arent capable of reimagining from the perspective of the artists perception. If you ever hear the original mix of "Money" youd understand that . If you sinply dont like it thats fine... It sounds to me like like youre caught in a loop, of yesteryear... I am probably as big a fanatic of the original, but the reinterpretation of the music by the artis who created the MAJORITY of the GOOD MUSIC pit out by floyd, regardless of the players, to me is something to listen to in its ownbmerit... If you can sit and listen to Syd Barrett rip up songs, and you can see the potential of a madman who alwas once whole, then you should be able to grasp the genius.

You know he hasn’t changed the original. Im not sure you are aware that the original hasn’t been deleted from the world. Nothing is ruined. It’s a different album. Stop comparing it to the original. I love you speaking for Roger on why he made the album, I wasn’t aware you knew him that well. You are a great guitarist and your heart (and videos) show this, and that’s possibly why you don’t like the redux. I remember when the acoustic version of Clapton’s Layla came out and many in the press tore it apart…

Firstly Free Four wasn't a great track and hearing an old man quote it in this context is powerful imo. It doesn't need to be compared to the original. If it came out and the original never existed, it would probably get rave reviews. There is another aspect to the negative reviews, it is a personal dislike of his political views. The music is not bad at all. It's very good. Your comparison to good bad and ugly is ridiculous; sounds nothing like it. Musically this album is very good. Stop comparing it to the original and enjoy it for what it is. To criticise any likeness to Cohen is insane, when there is so much music that sounds alike. This album is pretty unique in comparison to most.
@mustyguitar

I can understand and even agree with most of what you say, but I'm not sure about "rave" reviews. C'mon man. don't be like that. I got nothing to talk about his political views (meaning I don't care for them, not for good, not for bad, I don't even know his political views). I don't care about his ideas if they're not related to music. free four is a great track, obscured by clouds is much better than redux in my opinion. not that redux is "crap", like i said in the video, I liked a lot of stuff as much as I didn't like a lot of stuff. good bad ugly is not comparison, I just said it popped in my head, i liked it, made me think about that. but here's my problem with this comment, "stop comparing it to the original". no dude, that's impossible. If he didn't say something like "cut this we crap, I wrote dark side", I'd say that this is his album and you can love it or hate it, it's got good moments, it's got very bad moments (just like rattle that lock album from gilmour). this is a personal video with personal thoughts, just like hundreds more on youtube. I'm nowhere near a critic and sure as hell not a professional musician. but saying "stop comparing it to original" after roger trashes everyone else is just not possible.

@@mustyguitar Maybe let Waters have his bad moment and forgive him for it? Perhaps he had been feeling under appreciated and his ego got out of control when he said those things. And obviously no one can escape comparing it to the original. How could you not be hearing the original in your head whilst listening to it? It is a companion piece. To be honest, it is testimony to the original that so many people can't hear this without prejudice. It was always going to be a let down if you expected to stand on a level with it!

In my opinion, Redux is an insult to the Dark side of the moon album. And normally I respect Waters as a musician (as opposed to his character and opinions). Even when he announced this project, I knew that this was not a good idea, but the result is far worse than I expected.🫣
