For those saying “Gege said he has a wife”… I’m going to hold your metaphorical hand when I say this, dear viewer. Gege never said anything about having a wife. Same thing with the "They put something in their b@lls" thing xD... It’s important to try to find the original source in Japanese before taking anything at face value. I spent hours searching for the exact quote where Gege said they were jealous of Yamashita's skill and where they said they used it as a reference because Japan pretends it doesn’t exist. Even though I found it right away on Tumblr! Stop believing everything you read on reddit or Twitter… xD If you have the interview where they said that, or any reliable source feel free to share it here. :)

For a long time, I have actually really believed gege was a woman because of some of the points u have mentioned here that i alr knew.. but over time i retracted this thought esp w the evidence of "he's able to write great female characters and have a certain lvl of understanding of womanhood/girlhood that only a woman would know" because of Tatsuki Fujimoto, his contemporary whos a male shounen mangaka, his foil in this aspect bc he writes objectively BETTER female characters than gege, has multiple works that have female main characters, and well hes able to capture rly well the "girlhood" experience even thought hes a man (hell he literally wrote a somewhat autobiographical oneshot where the mcs are both little girls whose yuri ship name literally spells "Fujimoto" (Fujino + Kyomoto) and has expressly stated that he prefers writing women characters more than males.. Bro also reads yaoi (bruh he rec'd yaoi to his fans 😭 and said "it's interesting so i recommend it") and shojosei. So yeah if Fujimoto, a male mangaka can write great female characters, can tackle topics about girlhood that otherwise only women would fully understand, and hell he even has a very profound and deep understanding of trans and gay people (his favorite in Fire Punch is a transman and it still blows my mind how masterfully well he presented what "gender dysphoria" is + he has one actual character that canonically came out as lesbian)... then Gege can also just be a male mangaka whose media library isnt limited to jus male-targetted manga and can consciously seep into his work what he has read from works and genres outside of the usual shonen mold.

i understand the logic on one hand but on the other hand it's a bit effed up to say that. to imply that people with different experiences could fundamentally not understand each other or write about experiences other than theirs respectfully/skillfully... it's really not hard to see women as people and put oneself in others' shoes lol. everybody accepts the fact that women can write men with no problem, we should have higher standards for the other way around, instead of accepting and normalizing the idea that it's impossible for a man to write female characters well... that is just the same logic misogynists use to justify when female characters are sexualized, or badly written, or absent in a piece of fiction.

There’s a reason jjk attracts so many more female fans than any other anime series like it, jjk is full of very attractive male character and really doesn’t focus on attractive female characters like other series do. There’s no panty shots or overly revealing clothing on the female characters (any other male mangaka would have designed mei mei a lot more provocatively) but there’s plenty of very attractive shots of the men Wether Gege is a woman or not, i can assure you that jjk is very appealing to women and at the very least *feels* at times like it was written and drawn by a woman

What's the manga about?
@ossianmalmborg7437 күн бұрын
@faith4657 I don't think telling you the beginning story will do much. The story changes a lot, just like the protagonist. The most useful thing I can tell you is that it draws heavily on Buddhist themes. The protagonist is also very unique as a concept, basically being Archimedes axe (or boat) as a character. The story has a lot of symbolism and depth, also some pretty good characters. The story revolves around (at least to start with) a bunch of humanoid gems and their battle against the "gods" that try to turn them into jewellery. When a gem loses a part of themselves they also lose part of their memories and identity with it. The protagonist revolves around this concept since they are a weak gem. Phos became one of my favourite characters due to the massive change they went through in the manga while still ultimately being themselves.

Gege sidelined Nobara as a main female character for more than half the manga and Yuki got the short end of stick as only female special grade. The female cast was a bit too lackluster in general compared to the potential they had and in comparison to male cast (ex: more underutilized or killed off before they even did much). A rare standout like Maki, and a few female empowerment moments here and there doesn't really cover that up. Can't see him being a woman for something like that ngl. 😅

9:22 Adding onto this, the inclusion of multiple LGBTQ characters in JJK (especially Uraume and Kirara), gives more precedent to Gege possibly being transgender. Both of them not acting like stereotypes like how a lot of other manga would treat them also adds onto this.
@beyondalpha91397 күн бұрын
gege is most likely a male imo, he made an appearance at comic-con (albeit with a mechamaru helmet), and he has the figure of a man. many, other male mangaka also include lgbtq/lgbtq-passing characters that don't act like stereotypes and pull them off just fine. i think its unlikely that he's trans. also: On Mando Kobayashi, Akutami said he used to use the masculine pronoun 僕 boku, but switched to 私 watashi between volumes because it’s more grown-up. He first thought this is what started the confusion about him being a woman when he met some other mangaka at a work party pre-coronavirus and they were surprised to see he was a guy. It's the norm for men in Japan to stop using 僕 and other less casual 1st person pronouns and use 私 in work and other formal situations when they grow up because these pronouns are less polite and professional than 私. 私 is gender neutral, although most cisgender men will continue to use 僕 and/or 俺 ore, another masculine pronoun that’s even less polite, in non-professional situations while many women will still use 私 in casual settings. I don’t know how it was translated in other languages, but it’s the same as Gojo switching from 俺 to 僕 after Geto told him to use 私 or at least 僕 around elders. Some people have been saying that Akutami goes by 私 because it’s gender neutral, but this interview confirms that’s not true. He was just trying to sound more mature. Akutami did call himself a younger brother in Vol 2, but in the 2nd light novel, he also said he won the evil kinkan game when he was 7 where you put kinkan, an anti-itch liquid, on your balls. (He has to have a very high tolerance for pain because kinkan on your balls would sting like hell. Maybe that’s why he has no qualms killing off characters. He feels nothing.) So anyway, Akutami has never been that coy or misleading about his gender. That time he drew himself as a woman was him trolling Yamanaka for telling him to make his girls bustier and cuter, and it was obvious what was going on if you read the full page the profile was on, but what’s usually been shared by fans is a cropped image of the profile, hence the confusion. Mangaka also are usually self-deprecating and don’t depict themselves as that cute. In the interview, Akutami also said the first manga he submitted was a gag manga so he’s a playful guy. I hoped that cleared up confusion about Akutami. It was never his intention for people to believe he was a woman.

Kubo is the reason why i think that gege is (most probably) a guy. Why? Well, those 2 had and interview and this is the part that i want to talk about. "Kubo: I hate to say this in front of the man himself, but none of the female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are my type. They’re all formidable, aren’t they? When characters of the opposite sex get preferential treatment, they usually reflect the creator’s tastes, so that must be Akutami-sensei’s type. Akutami: No, that’s just me dodging the issue… I’m aware I suck at drawing women. Therefore, I’ve put the brakes on creating so-called “ladylike” characters. Kubo: While your male characters come in all types, I feel like your women largely fit the same mold. Could it be you have an aversion to creating female characters who conform to gender roles? Akutami: That’s not quite the case… Kubo: For real? And you don’t have a preference for the “strong female” archetype? Akutami: Well, it’s not as if I prefer any archetypes in particular. If you were to ask me about my favorite female characters, I’d freeze up. Besides, I don’t know if the readers even want to see any ladylike or seductive female characters from me." Do you see all the thing to consider? The opposite sex, not gender (it could be a traslation error) So, our only chances are, gege is just a dude inspired by character like the ones that kubo made or a trans and kubo is chill as f*ck.
