Absolutely, hands-down, the dirtiest I've ever been was during Army basic training and a bivouac that took place in late Summer/early Fall 1989 just as Hurricane Hugo came up the Eastern Seaboard. While it had dissipated to a tropical storm/depression by the time it hit NJ, it still packed a punch with regard to rainfall. Our command had us try to ride things out at first, but then eventually evacuated us when it was apparent things were still going to be pretty bad. But not until we'd been suffering a few days of cold rain, high winds, and mud, mud, mud. So much mud. With the extra bonus of SAND. I can remember one of our drill sergeants gleefully trotting down the line at the firing range while we all lay in the prone position in the muck shooting at targets, singing "Here comes the rain agaaaain..." at the top of his lungs. Needless to say, I never, EVER took a warm shower for granted ever again. 🫠

And you are right that we’ve scrubbed the dirt off the face of work and people judge you by how clean you are. My son got technical certificate instead of a college degree and while he is paid WELL, loves what he does and is happy, he does get dirty. People have given him terrible looks and said some pretty hateful things to him in public just because his clothes aren’t clean after a hard day working. It’s really sad

Quartzite shower was $5 hot water, bath mat, still wore my chanclas and no timer. Love a fire but, don't like smelling like smoke in my van. As to frustration, girl, I've been there various times. I'm told I clean to much and you're always organizing. Well, there's more to it, but I'll say this from large home2.5 bath 4bedroom full basement Cathedral ceiling 2 walk-in pantries one with a deep sink (you kinda get the picture) I had to downsize into a van which isn't finished $$ circumstances😔. But I'm told everytime there's always something needing to be done in vanlife. i can't wait to finish. What I’ve learned about Burningwood. Is that there are different types of wood and each type burns cooler or hotter. When you have a yellow or orange flame you’re burning low and you’ll get lots of sight. When you burn wood that has a higher burn factor your flame will be blue and you’ll have less soot❤

thank you for keeping it real Diane.....I'm thinking all that soot mixed with the sand that kicks up from the wind would get to me big time too. I know when I got that dirty girl feeling I'd gladly pay the $15, but.....$15 come on they gotcha as there is not much there to choose from!!! Honestly, after I heard Quartizite had rat issues it made me think twice about going there myself. $15 for a shower seems like a lot. When I was camping in Quartzsite, the showers at the Main Street Laundromat & Showers place were $10. However, those showers were a lot smaller than what was shown in your video at the Pilot truck stop. There were free showers at a church on some mornings, but a huge wait. A hairdresser place by the laundromat had $5 showers but also a long wait.

Girl, I just love ya! I loved hearing the down dirty details on your trip. Who wouldn't? Who doesn't want the truth? That's why I love ya. Can't wait to see you on your travels back up home. But I'll be honest, your meal did not look appealing whatsoever! You certainly loved it, and that is all that counts! But just saying... It did not look appealing😬😩🛒💃🏻

Thanks, yes, that's one of my hallmarks. Food that looks disgusting but tastes great. I'll try to work on that... 😂

Is it a choice or a dichotomy for doing this? It seems that you have a choice to live a normality of a lifestyle isn't it? You have a house a family a caring husband and more or am I mistaken? Doing what you do is purely a choice to experiment isn't it? Or is it for entertainment purpose? Many have gone on You-Tube because there is money to be made while enjoying the exploring of the country or World and for some is a way to make a living. Sure there are issues living in a car and it isn't all that glamorous as some try to depict it. Then for the sake of the making of a video and its circumstance I hear you for the broadcasted dilemma. I drove across the US 12 times but never thought of anything I just enjoyed the trip and what I saw, and at the time there where no You-Tube or cellphones for that matter, now it is much easier and there is a lot of information w/out even watching any You-Tube videos. Cheers. ✌✌
