You are doing yourself a serious disservice by being provoked to anger and passions constantly, day in and day out. Agitation propaganda is all over the place and the goal is to reduce you to a reactive and defeatist shell of a man.

When you're angry, sometimes you're able to see battles you can win, and stand up for yourself against abusers in your life. anger isn't the problem, it's people who misunderstand what it's for, and - more on the topic of this video - what the internet is.

It's because anger is a sign of you losing agency over something. So you over-compensate. This is why people "beg 'Government'" to do things they can't possibly do, like campaign finance reform, because begging them feels like regaining agency. Even if nothing results, protesting _feels like_ agency. I have a friend who attends rallies against U.S. political decisions in Calgary Alberta. They make him feel _great!_ A FANTASTIC example of the stupidity inspired by anger. As someone who can turn off their anger nearly at will, it's slightly amusing to watch the majority of people who lose their s*** so easily over nearly nothing. "WAAAH, the world doesn't live down to my infantile expectations of it." This is stuff I got over at age seven.

Ignoring politics can be dangerous. Take a look at current Russia situation. When things started to get better after 90s people distant themselves from politics and let one little man gain enormous power. And than that autocratic regime was impossible to change which lead to a war and total absence of free speech and free media. So, not caring for politics is fine as long as your country is going relatively right way.

I recently read a study, where they used a police siren on people that were crossing the road in the wrong place. Then they asked these pedestrians to donate to their charity. Those that got scared by the police siren were 70% more likely to donate than those who didn't hear the siren. When you're irritated you are much more gullible and it's easier to affect/predict your actions.

I like the Jesus example you brought up.. By not reacting angrily, you actually maintain control over the situation and can think about how else you are going to win that the other person isn't expecting, because anger allows us to act in a predictable way, but the calm person dealing with hostile behaviour is still able to navigate logical solutions to bring resolve.. That's why turning the other cheek isn't "cucked" it's about sending a message, that you are above that level and in control of your emotions rather than letting emotions control you
@Laotzu.Goldbug
@Laotzu.Goldbug 2 жыл бұрын
This is true, but not ultimately absolute. There are times when thinking not only doesn't help you out but can actively harm your ability to do the right thing. That cold de-ttached rationality is not the correct solution to all problems and all situations. That is really just a lie of post-enlightenment rationalist modernity. Ultimately this is about humility, specifically understanding that human reason is not absolute.

The thing about anger is that it is actually good. Anger making you stupid is a good thing, because evolutionary striking down the tyrant and the cultural subverter in a fit of rage and lack of foresight was surely beneficial. There is no political solution. And the things are as bad as you think. I lived in Germany when it was basically 95% white. I can *see* the change. How can the change be not real if I can actually see and experience it?

But by and large, fixing the mass migration problem won't be accomplished by reading ragebait articles or seeing yet another story of a Muslim terror attack. If anything, social media should be for organising real gatherings, but it tends to make people complacent.

What you say around 6:30 strikes a particularly pertinent point. We have all these people expressing indignation at LATEST THING without changing their behaviour (besides changing a profile picture or showing a flag in support of X) in any way to ameliorate the situation or distance themselves from it morally. But this is nothing new, as we have Thoreau complaining about the following his in contemporaries in Civil Disobedience: "See what gross inconsistency is tolerated. I have heard some of my townsmen say, “I should like to have them [the government] order me out to help put down an insurrection of the slaves, or to march to Mexico,-see if I would go;” and yet these very men have each, directly by their allegiance [to the government], and so indirectly, at least, by their money, furnished a substitute."

@@100c0c I'd say the dominant force is active by definition - both in having an agenda not concerning its enemies and in forcing the opposing side to react themself to this dominant force. To sidestep, the liberal story of totalitarianism is basically that it's the dominant force that is nevertheless reactive, by making a fight against some minority its main point of agenda. I don't really think it's correct tho and it's only meant to disarm the opposing sides of liberal elites by putting forward the ridiculous comparison of conflating the style of governance during the hostilities and during potential peace. Think about how both nazism and communism are "doomed" by what they were doing during the war/post-war period but almost none attention is given to what the US did during the war.

I think ultimately that detaching yourself from the system is a tactical move and not a strategic one. In other words, it is not the solution to your problem but rather the step you need to take to give yourself the capability to generate an actual solution, which does necessitate confronting the system at some point. It is the people who try to skip right to that latter stage, but do not understand that the preparation is necessary, that fail. Of course those that never go for the second phase and just try to run their problems are equally stupid

I think you gotta take the message with a grain of salt. I had to punch a bully in the head once and he never bothered me again. But that's different from getting outraged about what some stranger said on the other side of the planet.

Not sure about this one mate. Getting pissed at agitprop while changing effectively nothing is dumb, yes, but so many people being angry suggests that something is rotten. Widespread anger eventually leads to revolt, revolt leads to revolution, which shakes the stagnant and corrupted foundations of society. So, IMHO, that's a good thing™

In Portugal, swept up in turn by the breaking wave of Bissau, Miguel Torga, who'd struggled all his life against the dictatorship, wrote: 'Every bit player represents only himself. Instead of seeking social change, he seeks simply, in the revolutionary act, to boost his own image. That's the way the breakers recede, and so predictably that one must believe in an 'amnesia of the future that history bestows, out of mercy or self-interest, on those it recruits. Amílcar murdered by members of his own party, the liberated areas fallen to bloody petty tyrants, liquidated in their turn by a central power to whose stability everyone paid homage until the military coup. That's how history advances, plugging its memory like one plugs one's ears. From documentary Sans Soleil (1983)

This would be a fair argument if the anger was not manufactured. When you get angry over things you have no control over, you relinquish agency. A lot of the problems in modern Western societies stem from people's lack of agency over their values and identity, and failing that they cling to artificial, tailored beacons like the music they listen to, the pr0n they watch, etc. A bugman's anger is not worth a dog's snarl.
@Laotzu.Goldbug

This is a fair point, but I think there was a subtle divide which makes all the difference which is the distinction between indulgent anger, which is a kind of performative aspect that we take on to make ourselves feel better, but we are addressing the problem just because we are angry even if we aren't, versus a cold and calculating anger that actually leads to solutions from a place of pointed indignation. It's kind of like the difference between reactive violence and proactive violence, the first being very high in the animal world but low, relatively speaking in humanity, with the inverse being true: i.e. Compared to other mammals, and other hominids, humans are actually relatively low in reactive violence but we are very high in proactive calculated violence

@@scilver8887 no he doesn't. There's plenty of times in history when something happened and shit truly hit the fan. Typically, it's something you could not predict, such as Gavrilo Princip shooting Franz Ferdinand, or the wall st crash of 1929. It's not always "a total LARP" or fedposting.

"... Neutrality encompasses everything and anything in such a way that in every case nothing else takes place than a clear factual assessment of given facts. This, however, requires a clear soberness of observation and perception, according to which the result then provides an indispensable moment of critical thinking, according to which a just judgement takes place, respectively a proper, correct and just judgement of the given facts, which also requires a subsequent completely neutral way of acting and behaving, as a result of which any form of partiality is excluded. However, the necessary is already done, namely that there is clarity about what is right and what is wrong, which can then only be represented by the word of truth and possibly - in the case of dispute or war etc. - be attempted to be explained impartially to one and/or the other party. More, however, is not allowed, because that would violate neutrality and make it null and void, because - especially politically - neutrality is valid in every respect and does not allow any deviations of any kind. ..."

I’ll say I saw this on both sides from 2016 to now after voting for both sides and thought it was a form of manipulation. At this point my vote will never go to a party member ever and I will try harder to vote for congress. I try to tell people if you want things to actually change, vote for congress members and vote for an independent. All I know is the status quo is what both sides definitely want and need.
