There are days 4-strokes feel good and there are days 2-strokes feel good on the trail. But four strokes always feel more planted with much less wheel slip. And 2-strokes always feel lighter on the trail.

@Richard Misorski I had an 08WR and it was a great bike. It was a little on the heavy side but still way fun to ride. I have a YZ250F that I just bought but not had it out yet. I am thinking the 250FX is a great blend of the YZ and WR with that incredible Yamaha reliability.

Videos like this is why the 2 stroke vs 4stroke debate is useless. You will always find a bike in both tiers that you will enjoy. Both are fun to ride and both have their strengths.

I think you just changed my mind, from the 250x, to the 250fx. I have always ridden 4 strokes growing up, with the exception of my 93 KDX 200 which is currently in the rebuild process. Your excitement and explanation of how you felt is 100% how I feel when I throw my leg over any bike and hit the trails. I really appreciate this video! Please keep doing what you're doing!

I have a 19 yz250fx and don't have any problem in the technical, it's all in how good you know how to ride and that's it, the first gear is low enough for the technical and second is great for hill climbing, great bike for everything

Terry Wilson I totally agree. My 17 FX is a blast. I use 1st to loft the bike. 2nd is my “1st” gear and 3rd tends to be my “2nd” gear when I’m rippin through quick flowing trails. This bike can climb so easy in 2nd. I love it.

It’s called anti-squat. All bikes have it, get on the gas and the rear is stiffer. It has to do with the geometry between the counter shaft swing arm pivot and top of rear sprocket. The chain is shortest when wheel is fully extended. Having the gas on wants to extend the shock so this adds to compression. Chassis geometry directly effects it. So does sag and spring rate.

I have a 2019 YZ250FX and love the bike. You can adjust the MAP to your liking depending on your riding style and terrain and make the bike totally different with just a few MAP changes. I have a Torquey MAP on mine now and it can lug low in the tight trails and it still pulls hard in the open trails. Hard to stall - I can put the bike in 1st or 2nd and it lugs down low chugging without stalling. Rocky Mountain did a back to back comparison between the 2019 and 2020 YZ250FX. The 2019 is said to be more of an all around bike with softer suspension and a bit lower gearing. The 2020 is said to be more of a race bike with the new stiffer suspension and a bit different gearing. If you read the YZ forums on ThumperTalk, some early bikes had issues starting cold and fouling plugs due to a rich setting - Yamaha should have their Service Bulletin updated by now for dealers. Other than that the 2019 and 2020 are both a dream to ride with the KYB suspension and throttle response. If riders can’t get use to the snappy EFI response you can change the MAP a bit to make it calmer and install a G2 Throttle Tamer. Together it really dials in the throttle for tight woods riding.

agreed ive owned a few Yz's before 2 strokes and 4 strokes and this FX is a machine i have put it through hell and it runs beautifully i took it on MX track a few times and i messed up on a double step up table top and the bike landed on its front forks and did a few cartwheels and it didn't give me any problems with starting or anything nothing was bent or broken. I swear by the YZ250FX and yamaha

Just picked up my 250Wrf after its 1st service. I bought the WRf for easy registration down here. Had to replace the exhaust to get son epower back as the new WRf comes with different ECU, Cams &Exhaust compared to the FX. I've had a few rides a bit of testing. I've had to go down a spring rate on the rear to get sag and preload right for my weight (89KG naked) to get 105mm sag. Looking forwar to Sunday now for a 2hr GNCC style event.

I’ve been infatuated with dirt bikes lately. I have no experience on dirt bikes and I’m getting older so I probably shouldn’t be looking at anything with 2 wheels as I get older lol…but something is calling me to dirt bikes for some reason. I ride an ATV every month on fire roads and blm land but it looks so fun to ride on a single track in the backwoods. I think I’m going to have a big yard sale and give it a try sooner than later.

Just listened to you podcast and came here to comment. Very strange you say it’s hard to start, had a 2015 for many years and it would start in gear no problem, did have a Rekluse on it though. That too completely eliminated the slow speed stalling issue and engine braking that I’m not fond of. FYI if you end up with a dead battery out on the trail you are deep up s### creek. It will kick start and idle but that is the extent of your power. I found this out from two days of trail clearing logs and constant restarts. What I learned from that is don’t abuse your battery just kick start it witch it does no problem even in gear and maybe that was due to having a Rekluse at the time. Pease. Dave G Seattle, Wa.

Kyle this is great video, I really enjoyed it. Just wanted to mention that I ride the hard enduro trails of south west BC(McNutt) and the guys that ride the FX250’s here never have a problem with flame outs and stalls. It seems that once you are familiar with the engine you know exactly how to use the throttle and any stalling problems disappear. Anyone who rides mostly 2 stk has an adjustment period because the way you use the throttle is a little different. It’s amazing what the FX can do in the tight and gnarly. See “Every Single Sunday- Best single track in the world” for an example of our awesome trails.

Great video. You remind me of myself when I had Race Tech set up my '97 RM250 suspension 23 years ago. I had the other Japanese brands before that Suzuki but none were as fun or as confidence inspiring on the track (aside from a noticeable lack of torque relative to my KX) . I just subbed, btw. I've been on youtube since the beginning but yours is the first channel I've subscribed to; believe it or not!

2020 KLX 300R owner, trying to upgrade to either this YZ250FX or the KTX 350XCF... I'm 5'11 + 220 pounds, thinking the 350 is the way to go..

How is the engine braking when not on the throttle? Like a typical four stroke? Can you lug it way down in the rpms without the fear of it stalling? Can you compare the ride and handling to the 250X two stroke?

Just goes to show that beta got the KYB set up wrong. First year with the forks so that doesn't surprise me that much. Disappointed yeah but not surprising. I am sure it will be much better next year. In regards to the YZ250FX I look forward to hearing about how it does in the tight technical sections. Does it flame out or will it just lug?

Now if they would put a little R&D into the freaking yz250x. I love my 17?but geez it needs a few upgrades! The kyb set up on my 17 is hands down the best suspension I’ve ever been on.

Watch the language, you're getting a bit spicy (j/k). Great to hear the excitement and enthusiasm presented in a way that can be shared with the family.

You said last year that the Beta 390 RR was your favorite 4-stroke ever. Sounds like this one might usurp the Beta. Oh, and I love how you speak Utah language.

Just traded my new troublesome 22 te150i off for a new 22 yz250fx. The 22 yz250fx broke down in the parking lot before loading it up. They had to swap out the fuel tank assembly to get my new yz to run.. Hoping I didn't buy another lemon.

Ride more flowing terrain like this and stop rock pounding. Flow is your friend. Air in your helmet is certainly nicer

Very cool. I will be waiting for your full review in awhile. Also what you find with the kickstand spring. Maybe take it off and rotate 180 if it's the hook catching your boot? Be safe!
