@Richard Misorski I had an 08WR and it was a great bike. It was a little on the heavy side but still way fun to ride. I have a YZ250F that I just bought but not had it out yet. I am thinking the 250FX is a great blend of the YZ and WR with that incredible Yamaha reliability.

Terry Wilson I totally agree. My 17 FX is a blast. I use 1st to loft the bike. 2nd is my “1st” gear and 3rd tends to be my “2nd” gear when I’m rippin through quick flowing trails. This bike can climb so easy in 2nd. I love it.

It’s called anti-squat. All bikes have it, get on the gas and the rear is stiffer. It has to do with the geometry between the counter shaft swing arm pivot and top of rear sprocket. The chain is shortest when wheel is fully extended. Having the gas on wants to extend the shock so this adds to compression. Chassis geometry directly effects it. So does sag and spring rate.

I have a 2019 YZ250FX and love the bike. You can adjust the MAP to your liking depending on your riding style and terrain and make the bike totally different with just a few MAP changes. I have a Torquey MAP on mine now and it can lug low in the tight trails and it still pulls hard in the open trails. Hard to stall - I can put the bike in 1st or 2nd and it lugs down low chugging without stalling. Rocky Mountain did a back to back comparison between the 2019 and 2020 YZ250FX. The 2019 is said to be more of an all around bike with softer suspension and a bit lower gearing. The 2020 is said to be more of a race bike with the new stiffer suspension and a bit different gearing. If you read the YZ forums on ThumperTalk, some early bikes had issues starting cold and fouling plugs due to a rich setting - Yamaha should have their Service Bulletin updated by now for dealers. Other than that the 2019 and 2020 are both a dream to ride with the KYB suspension and throttle response. If riders can’t get use to the snappy EFI response you can change the MAP a bit to make it calmer and install a G2 Throttle Tamer. Together it really dials in the throttle for tight woods riding.

Had to replace the exhaust to get son epower back as the new WRf comes with different ECU, Cams &Exhaust compared to the FX. I've had a few rides a bit of testing. Just listened to you podcast and came here to comment. Very strange you say it’s hard to start, had a 2015 for many years and it would start in gear no problem, did have a Rekluse on it though. That too completely eliminated the slow speed stalling issue and engine braking that I’m not fond of. FYI if you end up with a dead battery out on the trail you are deep up s### creek. It will kick start and idle but that is the extent of your power. I found this out from two days of trail clearing logs and constant restarts. What I learned from that is don’t abuse your battery just kick start it witch it does no problem even in gear and maybe that was due to having a Rekluse at the time. Pease. Dave G Seattle, Wa.

Kyle this is great video, I really enjoyed it. Just wanted to mention that I ride the hard enduro trails of south west BC(McNutt) and the guys that ride the FX250’s here never have a problem with flame outs and stalls. It seems that once you are familiar with the engine you know exactly how to use the throttle and any stalling problems disappear. Anyone who rides mostly 2 stk has an adjustment period because the way you use the throttle is a little different. It’s amazing what the FX can do in the tight and gnarly. See “Every Single Sunday- Best single track in the world” for an example of our awesome trails.
