I traveled these roads in SA and pretty much all over Africa back in the days with no cellphones/GPS or whatever, just a map! Did we get lost? Yes we did! Will the bike break down? Absolutely! And I am so HAPPY that I did it then! The only way I would keep in touch with my family was to go and find an American Express office (only in major cities) and if you stayed in that city a week or so you would be able to receive mail from your family. Surprisingly enough Amex had many locations all over Africa and the world. BTW I loved taking pictures then! Could not afford 8 or 16 millimeter! I still have hundreds of pictures shot on regular cameras! And I will never transfer them to whatever is available now! They are old, colors are slightly fading and the edges are rough! But worth a million to me!
