I Am Very Unexcited for Netflix Resident Evil

So Netflix revealed that it is working on a live action adaptation for the extremely iconic series Resident Evil. And I'm going to lay down exactly why this will probably end terribly, since the definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over, expecting a different result.

Too bad we're not getting a Resident Evil: Outbreak styled show. Raccoon City would still be the setting, you'd have a "diverse cast", and I could expect some canonical deaths or maybe all of them surviving. Outbreak wasn't even among my favorite games in the series when I first started playing it, but I picked it up earlier this year and I realized how interesting it actually is.

Five wasn't bad, just didn't age well with it's AI partner gameplay. Six alleviated this to make your partner somewhat more competent and you didn't have to constantly share your items. Already a plus. In terms of tone. Sure, both in the end are just horror-action movie nonsense that's a far cry away from the older titles. But it wasn't as bad as people think.

​@@Excalibur01 ​ Yes. I really enjoyed the characters, especially Dante's arc as well as his backstory in how he justified his worldview of being an apathetic, violent, self-centered hedonist. I was pleased by how much focus Kat and Vergil had in the story as well (also I really liked Phineas). Even Mundus and Lillith had some dimension to their characters. The dialog in the story is "fine" (serviceable) most times, although there are some better moments which are propelled by sharper writing and/or performances. I really enjoyed the cast. Side note: Goodness, that art style still looks gorgeous.
