yup as someone living in Japan I agree with pretty much all your answers... though I think the shyness part stems from Japanese ideology of " the nail that sticks out gets hammered down" people would rather say nothing than say the wrong thing and get shit for it. also I've met so many rude japanese people that the stereotype of "all japanese people are polite" drives me crazy. If you ever get the chance to visit/live in Japan I recommend the northern countryside. People are so nice/polite up here.

I heard that the dental insurance in Japan is kinda jacked. Like, what a US dentists gets done in 1 visit a Japanese dentist has to spread out over multiple appointments. Because it's such a hassle, many don't go to the dentist as often as they should. Any truth to this?

They got better dental care, but they go by this weird ass point system. Even though it's universal dental care you still pay 30%. Say you had periodontitis and needed the treatment and therapy it would go into the 100,000's (Edit: This is in point system.) , but somehow it's manageable ( for someone making a decent wage.) Cosmetic dental surgery isn't a big deal there. Stuff they will do that some say is cosmetic and some say is not and other's being assholes judging how bad they had there teeth get. My best friend she had her right front tooth chip on the side so it looks like a tiny golf ball went through it. It was due to the lack of enamel, but that was due to health problems not bad dental care. The doctor was an ass to her, but he capped it. He told her this " you should just live with small things like this." FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE! Why would anyone want to live with a weird hole on the side of there front tooth? If you can get it fix you would, cause it's the teeth that get seen. If it were a back tooth she wouldn't have given that much of a shit. But, it really made her insecure and cry and this dudes being a dick. Let's just say dentist are assholes everywhere we can all take comfort in that.

When food comes short the height of the people does become shorter. All you do is look at the average height difference between North and South Korea. You also have when a species of mammals is introduced to an island environment that mammal species will become smaller to reduce the amount of food needed for survival.

Diet culture/trends focused on losing weight is pretty big in japan, I think that's a big reason why people can be so skinny there, especially girls. Not everyone likes to be so skinny either, though. Of course in general it's largely diet (as in what people normally eat I'm the culture) and people do more physical activity than in the US.

I feel like things such as physique, schooling, politeness, are different from general American culture for similar reasons that many European countries are. I'm American, and think that people here just picked up spelling "donut" because it was too much work. There's so many that go for the quantity over quality approach where working smarter rather than harder may easily result in lower grade output and more cut corners. Take Sweden for example. Even if Bernie was elected he couldn't make America more like Sweden because we're so generally American. We'd protest a heightened reliance on public transportation, nobody getting really high income figures (whether they're male, female, black, white, cis, non binary, straight, or any other part of the LGBT community), stricter limitations on farming and ranching, the cuts to artificial ingredients in food, and other things. Frankly, given the rise of reported sexual assault in Sweden, I would maybe like to be more like the French or German

With regards to Japanese people being "Polite," it is important to distinguish the difference between "Polite" and "Nice." As Reina mentioned, Japanese language and culture has inbuilt "politeness" which cannot be bypassed lest you sound like a weirdo or an outcast. Japanese people yell a phrase at you when you enter a store, which roughly translates to "Welcome to my shop" but it is an automatic response to you entering the store. If someone in English says "Welcome to my shop" there is a genuine/sincere element to it because it is not automatic, and the person is going out of their way to say it. Similarly, Japanese people automatically apologise (or excuse themselves) for everything, but when I ask them "Why did you apologise?" they cannot quantify specifically what they are sorry for. DISCLAIMER: I teach English to Japanese people in Australia, they are very nice people generally, but there is definitely a separate concept of being Nice and being Polite in Japanese which generally doesn't exist in English as when people are being polite in English it is usually because they are trying to be nice.
