I once went to see Bernie give a speech. As he was in the middle of speaking, someone’s phone started ringing, and it was LOUD. They didn’t turn it off, and he continued as if it wasn’t happening, until it finally went to voicemail. Then, after a few moments, it started ringing again. As I was wondering, “who the hell left their phone on??” his wife ran up onto the stage, grabbed his phone out of his pocket, and made the ringing stop. Absolutely iconic

My favorite thing about Bernie is that he makes an effort. I've seen him admit when he doesn't know something instead of making up answers, he's constantly struggling to do what's right, he knows it's impossible to serve all Americans but is striving to listen instead of being dismissive. I respect his reasoning, tbh. Why do pleasantry rituals with people who you don’t like, just because it’s socially expected. Especially when they’re people who openly shit talk him when given the chance. He works with them because he has to, to accomplish what he believes will lead to better lives for the most amount of people. It’s not a social charade to him, and he’s not there to make friends, so he doesn’t involve himself with that part. A man after my own heart.

When I hear someone who hasn't spoken to me in in year wish me 'Happy Birthday', it's hard not to think, 'Congrats you did the absolute bare minimum to acknowledge my existence. Here is a thank you'. Birthday wishes are yet another thing that Facebook has downgraded.
