Man seriously I feel so bad for the majority of Americans who eat a diet of junk and dont even know that its severely limiting their quality of life. The greatest tragedy today and its hiding in plain sight.

For my 2nd job, I'm a weekend waitress at a very popular breakfast joint. We are completely slammed on the weekends. The amount of people that start to come in at 10 am hangry, irritable and just flat out rude, is astonishing.. meanwhile, I'm fasting my entire shift.. happy and level headed as can be.

Yes, OMD is amazing. I love it. If you study up on it more you will find that stints of 3 plus days can have surprising health benefits with were proven with a trial. I wanted to go longer but due to my stomach structure (diaphragm effectively divides it in two causing many issues) it caused irritation and so had to limit my stints to 2 days. It makes me feel so much better and saves me money by eating less!! Fluid intake helped in the transition process. Just goes to show, quality is so much more important than quantity. The info on this channel should be mandatory for every human body.

You are brave. I was diagnosed with T2 in 2015. And followed the NZ Diabetic Assoc guidelines. Things just kept getting worse. So - I had had enough. Started with lemon water (made with actual lemons) in the morning. This stopped the sugar / chocolate / diet soda cravings. Then in Dec 2022 I started TRE at 13/11 - I am now at 15/9. My last Hba1c was the lowest it has ever been. All my other markers - LDL / HDL / Renal etc - all good. My waist is 10cm smaller, my weight is 10Kg lower. My energy levels are so, so high. I am not on a very low carb plan - but no added sugar, no white stuff (bread etc), no ultra-processed food and little processed food (it needs to be as as close to possible as the original - and no added sugar). No counting calories. I am 64 - so it is never too late.

Such an eye opening video. This needs to be shown to everyone! I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and I consider it a blessing is disguise. My diet throughout this pregnancy was not the worst, but definitely could have been better. Ever since I was diagnosed, I have been researching so much about the effects on processed foods/sugar, and I was just overwhelmed how I’ve been eating/drinking all this junk for YEARS. Since cutting out empty carbs/sugars the past 2 weeks, the first things I noticed were the dramatic improvement of my energy levels and sleeping habits. Sometimes I feel guilty because I would never harm my developing baby, but all that junk I did eat during first and second trimester was not helping momma or baby at all. However, I’m happy I’m on track now to achieve the most optimal health possible for myself and baby. Thanks for this video Dr. Ekberg and for speaking out on the dangers of overconsumption of highly processed foods/drinks!

The four basic good food groups is what we were taught. They told us that butter was bad and margarine was good. They told us that sugar was bad and saccharine good. Meanwhile, we got to drink all the Coca-Cola we wanted. The food, medical, pharmaceutical, and others are all in it together. It’s a big business making us unhealthy.

Very smart to be thinking of these things so young. I wouldn't even say what I was doing at 16 but suffice to say none of it was healthy and some of it continued to the age I am now and I'm paying a heavy price. High blood pressure, damaged kidneys, acid reflux, migraines, and 30 extra lbs of weight around my stomach. Keep up what you're doing because you do not want to battle these illness ( and worse) as you age. Nothing matters in life when you're sick. I am feeling better already changing my diet and hope to rid myself of some the afflictions I have. Already stomach and headaches 75% better.

Totally agree with the notion that fat is being blamed as the bad guy, when the quantity of total sugars has been ignored. I now regard total sugars, especially white sugar as POISON. It’s THE most addictive, long term damaging, highly available, cheap and difficult to avoid, legal DRUG on this planet. Fat in moderation especially other than “bad” fats has been demonised unfairly. Simply, processed food swaps fat for sugar. This “low fat” marketing is a con and I’m sick of it.

I really appreciate your videos and what I'm learning from them. When I started watching about two months ago I resolved to make it a habit to take more control over my diet once again, as I was feeling sluggish from not having a routine (which was leading to bad food choices) . I always get off track in the winter months because the season change from fall to winter always hits me hard (I've always struggled with SAD) and the time change wrecks me, sometimes for months. For about a month now I have been eating all my calories within an certain time window that works best for me. I started extreme with a 4 hour window, then relaxed it until I found the sweet spot (an experiment) . I settled at eating all calories from noon until 8:30 PM. This forced me to make better food choices, knowing that I need to be wise during my feeding window (increasing focus on protein and healthy fats) . It also helped stabilize my blood sugar, and I never eat a snack out of fear, because my body has adapted to the feast and famine cycle. And if I get a craving or hungry I ignore it and it passes very quickly. I'm also no longer waking up tired because I can't eat right before bed and mess up my sleep cycle. The first week or so was very hard, but I got over the hump! You have taught me a lot about fats, which has been especially helpful. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that demonizing fats caused people to greatly increase processed/concentrated sugar intake as a consequence. Even worse the sugars commonly being separated from fats and their natural complexity (high glycemic) . Growing up in the late 90's and early 2000's, the "butter is bad, cheerios are good" mentality was pumped into people. And the fat free/low calorie fad allowed companies to basically sell you less food and/or food stripped of it's nutrients a higher cost to the consumer, but at a lower production cost. Marketing genius, but one of the worst diets to ever hit the mainstream. I had a poor childhood with diet and dental hygiene and had most of my mouth reconstructed in my mid 20's (pulling teeth, titanium implants, fillings, etc...) . Until my mid 20's (I'm 34 now) I was clueless about the damage the American diet was causing. Also, I have never been overweight. I'm 5' 10" and I have never been over 145 pounds. Thin is not always healthy. I have a fast metabolism and have always been very active, yet sugar was slowly killing me. Thank-you for the great education and reminding me to keep moving forward amidst the rut I found myself in this winter.

Thank you Dr! You’re advice is priceless to me. No doctor or even nutritionist will give you information like this. This has been a long and winding journey for me. I knew the added sugar and processed food was doing bad things to my body but I guess like many Americans we just ignore it and follow what our bellies want. I stopped eating sugar and high carb foods and I feel so much better now. I’ve been trying to do this for at least a year and just kept being led away by cravings. Finally I checked my glucose about a month ago and it was 139. My clothes were tight, I was not losing weight, and I felt depleted. At that point I said enough, I gotta cut out the sugar. I’m glad I finally made the leap. My glucose is under control now, clothes are much looser, lost about 9 pounds. Trying to bring my hubby around but he’s much more resistant than I was. He’s starting to see my results and maybe coming around, asking more questions.

Today (day 8) I feel good but Im going for low carbs again and HITT exercises. Major difference I have noticed is that I dont get tired, more energy, better mood, more focus and I don't get hungry so much. If everyday was my cheat day I wouldn't be feeling as good as I am right now.

It is too much money in junk food. Remember, in the United States and in other westernized countries, is advantageous for people to eat this food because the stockholders and the rich even get richer. I had a girlfriend who's a nurse and she got reprimanded by her hospital for talking too much about nutrition after heart surgery. They want you to come back for another bypass surgery.

@@cleopatrajones2024 Hi Cleopatra Jones! I wholeheartedly agree, not just from the testimony of others, but from my own personal experience. Dr. Ekberg, Dr. William Davis, and many others, have been the real health care professionals that not only know what health is, but how it can be restored in those who've thought they were doing the right thing by complying with the so-called Standard American Diet. Everybody can get a piece of the "action" when the F.D.A., D.E.A., Food Manufactures, etc, all climb in bed with the A.M.A., the sole purpose of which is to "manage" illness, not cure it. @guibox3

Well, Big Food and the government are just going by normal dietician standards. They focus only on the calories and so the responsibility lies with the people who can't control themselves. Even the nutrition world says, 'Eat whatever you want as long as you are in a caloric deficit.' So they don't feel they need to take responsibility for what foods they put out. After all, mainstream nutrition and fitness gurus all say 'CICO is all that matters', without taking into account the physiological damage these foods cause. The diet and nutrition world needs to shoulder some of the blame, not just the government and Big Food.

I went to my former physician to get my thyroid meds renewed for the next year. I had to have fasting blood drawn for my lab test. I tried to, unsucccessfully, get her nurse to call me so that I could request that my INSULIN level be added to my blood test, so when I saw the physician, I asked that she order this and I would do another fasting blood draw. She REFUSED!!! She actually said….” I REFUSE to order those tests. I only order tests so that I can TREAT someone.” My mind was completely blown!! This is an M.D., an internist, and she would not help me to NOT GET DIABETES or any other disease or condition, but was only willing to throw the drugs or whatever at me AFTER I became ill. This, folks, is the state of our medical practice today. Absolutely shocking!!! This i why I stated that she is now my FORMER physician!

I know it was but had to do the comparison. My downfall is nothing more than Deans Peppermint ice cream! I ate the entire 1 &1/2 quart carton in 2 days! Then I had some Angel hair pasta with butter and parsley, and the topper was naan bread!.I was getting to the point of not being able to afford all the keto and organic foods. The prices have jumped unbelievably high but I quickly gained 5 lbs and immediately went back to my keto lifestyle. I am still up 3 lbs but it is dropping. I won’t do that again. If most people dodged processed foods and stopped sugar and limited carb intake they would be fine. Another thing is most people don't move. I'm going to be 65 years old in July and easily keep up with my friends half my age. I do HIIT 2-3 times a week and lift weights. I also walk my dog around 6 times a week for about 45 minutes. I don't worry about fat such as on a steak. Actually, that will help keep your testosterone level up. Oh, I also do a 16/8 intermittent fasting.

Hi Dr. Ekberg, would you consider doing content specifically on IF for women AND specifically for women with PCOS? I keep hearing that for women with regular cycles, fasting too long could be a stressor during certain periods of her cycle, but no one tells us exactly what to do without having to pay for a program. Alternately, I don’t know how such differences apply to women with PCOS who don’t have regular cycles (or cycles at all). Also, unsure if this is interrelated with adrenal fatigue, but I also heard that for those with adrenal fatigue, fasting too long is a bad idea. If you could consider making content honing in on these three areas, it would be most appreciated. Thanks so much for all you do!
