While Chicken Ala King might sound delicious this Meal Ready to Eat was definitely not one of my favorites. Count how many times I gagged or about puked from this delicious cuisine! If you are a prepper or just someone that collects MREs, IMPs, or readiness rations, I would maybe steer clear of this one.

My first military field rations...in ROTC in the early '80s...were C-rations. When we got our first MREs in maybe '83(?), we thought we had died and gone to heaven. But a few notes on your review... 1. You don't drink the cocoa, sarge. You add just enough water to thicken it and eat it like pudding...right from the bag. 2. "This smells like toe jam." That's just the way that "cheese" smelled, big guy. But we ate it anyway, because doing so got you out of using the blue TP for at least 3 days. (Gave you 3 days to collect up enough of the TP to do any good, too.) 3. The crackers are still intact, because they are made from oven-baked masonite. They were the only part of that meal that was actually edible. 4. The chicken a la king was ass, even "fresh." No one liked it. 5. The "cakes" were tolerable, but the fruitcake was the worst. There was also a cherry nut cake, which was passable, and then the king of the cakes...the maple nut cake. Most guys would fight you for a maple nut cake. 6. You skipped out on the coffee. We just dumped the contents into our mouths and washed it down with a swig of water, just to get the caffeine. 7. It is highly doubtful any of the contents were spoiled, as it is unlikely there is anything organic in there in the first place. I kid, of course. You always make me laugh, especially at the memory of actually eating those things! Keep up the great work! 🤣

This video had me crying with laughter! My wife didn't know what to think until I started explaining why I found it so funny. I had to eat a lot of these MREs in the desert and hated them all after 6 months. Based on how you were describing the smells I'd say it was still safe to eat because the smell obviously was still the same! I'm sorry to say you picked the very worst of the worst when you chose this one! They would definitely keep you from pooping for a week if you made the mistake of eating more than 1 in a day! Thanks for doing this video and giving an old man a laugh!

Recipes were important back then. Heat the chicken and mix in half the cheese, which was halfway edible. Mix the cocoa, coffee, sugar, and creamer hot for a mocha. And if you had jelly, crush the crackers and add jelly, creamer, sugar, and mix well, and flatten. Sit someplace hot for a while, and you have a sort-of pop tart.

Speaking as someone who was in the Army in the 90s, Chicken Ala King was the best! Use the heater and mix the cheese in with the chicken. Chef's Kiss! Also, do you kids these days not know how to make Ranger Candy (What we used to call it) with the coffee, cocoa, sugar, and creamer mixed together in one of the foil packs and then you light it with one of your matches and it makes a nice sweet treat!

Aaaahhhh good old MRE Menu #9 you where living if you got one of those the ones you never wanted to see was Menu #1 Dehydrated pork patty or Menu #3 Dehydrated Beef patty. The only thing good out of those was the apple sauce or beans. with tomato sauce. In the MRE class of 81 to 85 of the 13 menus you wanted to stay away from menu 1 and 3 completely. and menu 2, 6,12b if you had no way to heat them. Remember in this class there was no MRE heaters packed in with the MRE. Which means as a typical grunt you didn't want to eat 45% of the available menu selections.

Dear God!! What were you thinking?!?! Chicken Ala King was, by far, THE most hated MRE in the 90's. We used to hide them in the field and burn them with the trash (because our Plt Sgt said "nobody goes back to garrison until those MRE's are eaten and gone). Thank goodness for diesel fuel and matches (the ONLY useful part of a Chicken Ala King meal). My wife watched the video with me and understands why they were hated. Please don't try the dehydrated pork or beef patty (aka track pad).

haha that was actually one of the better tasting ones. omelette with ham, tuna with poodles always made me sick. we use to fight over that nasty cheese, smelt like arm pit when you opened it and sometimes was gritty like sand in it.

Man, Those fruit cakes were good back in the day. You were right not to eat most of the rest. It wasn't palatable when it was fresh.
