I stupidly judged Gen 5 purely off the weird Pokemon designs and refused to play it until 2019. I was horribly wrong. It took me back to when I was a kid playing for the first time. Playing with new creatures, the awesome music, and the overall tougher game made it an experience I'll never forget. If it isn't my favorite gen, it's definitely top 2.

Pearl was my first. Ngl, I learned every Pokemon in the regional dex as a kid before the multiplication table, haha. Loved it to bits, I think I bought it on like the Mexican border on a yard sale. Luckily, it was before region-lock, so I was safe.

My original team in this game has a simisear and vanilluxe. Promise you Simisear surprisingly carried on the same team as a Samurrott and Krokodile. I wa surprised when I learned about the hate and made me think people didn’t actually use him in a playthrough and now I know people hate him because they don’t see competitive worth now.

HEY I used a Vanilluxe many years ago and it solidified itself as a solid although outclassed ice type in my battle with Cynthia. She had killed off the entirety of my team and it was a 2v1 between Garchomp and Braviary. Vanilluxe skimmily dodged the stone edge and one shot that behemoth from there she outsped the braviary and clutched the battle one of my favorite Pokémon moments😊

BW were heavy on story and back tracking and even waiting for new seasons 😅 younger people are more impatient and may not value that stuff..but as we get older we start to appreciate the care the game has more and more!

I'll definitely have to give that a shot for my X, and Y - admittedly I didn't do enough testing, but I know for a fact that when walking around the game looked awful with no filter, like little lines and dots everywhere. I'll definitely test more for future videos. Honestly, I couldn't remember if that's just how the game was supposed to look, so I was like huh, that's not what I remember it looking like so I thought I just had nostalgia glasses. I think I'll probably compare my recordings to other KZbinrs for reference next time

Black and White are one of the best main series games. The reason why I didn't like the monkeys though is because you get one for free in the beginning and it is the direct counter to the gym leader's pokemon. Made it feel like you are getting the badge gifted.

I used a watchog in my first white playthrough. I think its one of the better designed early normal types. A meerkat thats also a traffic police makes so much sense and i like how it has so much focus in its eyes it looks like it could shoot lasers from them

I remember when megas first came out I didn't like them at all. It felt like they were depriving really good pokemon from certain forms, and at the same time, I really didn't see the point in it, cause in my mind, just like give them another evolution, like they did with held item evolutions from gen 2 - I thought that was a really clever way of introducing new mons. Over the years though megas have grown on me, though I do wish some other mons would get some love aside from Mewtwo and charizard. Cause God knows we're gonna probably see a Z version of both of those in the new legends game

My Gen 5 team was Serperior Sawk Darmanitan Krokodile Seismitoad Archeops I would later replace Archeops with Reshiram But man Black was my favorite game I played through, first game I was able to by with my own money after pre ordering it and going to game stop and paying $5 on it for a few weeks. The game lived up to the hype for me got me into playing the game competitively after I got stomped out in Art class by someone who knew the competitive aspects of the game. The guy was such a Kaiba tho I would later avenge my lost after learning about EV, IV and egg moves all that jazz. Pokemon Online was a major help

I've used Sawk two times, including my first time playing when I was a lil kid, then again on another team where I also used Maractus. On my first playthrough I also used Pansear until I caught Darumaka. I think if I remember right, it was Samurott, Stoutland, Sawk, Darmanitan, Gothitelle and Haxorus the first time I played. The other team with Maractus and Sawk also had Swoobat, Seismitoad, Krookodile and Galvantula. Yeah I used Maractus and I love it, but I STILL forget it exists. I also remember some of my sisters team, she picked Snivy and she used Panpour, Purrloin and her absolute favorite new Unova Pokémon, Vanillite. Yeah, the most vocally hated one, next to the Trubbish line.

I like doing runs like these. Using lesser-used or "weak" Pokemon to finish the game. Adds a level of difficulty not really found anymore, and helps you see some of those Pokemon in a different light. I had that happen with my last run of Diamond. I see Rapidash way differently than I used to after all the work it put in lol.

Yea I like Nuzlockes but they don't really do it for me because 1) theyre either way too frustrating and 2) the whole point of them is to grow and bond with the little guys but most teams just end up trying to optimize for performance so it kinda defeats the purpose

Got a Calm natured Ponyta early on, and ran with it's lower Sp. Atk. Put in some work for me unexpectedly lol. From Iron Island to just before Sunnyshore, I just left it in the lead.

@ I do really appreciate the *attempt* to make the game more story focused. And they’d been wanting to do a region with nothing but new pokes since gen 3, so they were going to do it at some point… 3 would have been ideal for the test run IMO. They had the unique designs to back it up. The story in 5 needed more show than tell. It would have been so cool if - instead of spouting the exact same line about freeing Pokémon 50 times while hypocritically holding on to their own and everyone else’s across the board (except no one actually calls them out on it… missed opportunity) - the grunts actually walked the talk, and only the leaders were secretly running a pyramid scheme of “freeing” Pokémon up the chain. Or maybe someone, anyone, in the entire story actually presents more than just “It’s because we’re friends… right?” In response to plasma’s accusations. Imagine this story in gen 6 instead: a good proof of the friendship angle would have been the whole, “You need a special bond to mega evolve,” schtick. The player using a mega evo could have been what changed N’s mind. Endless possibilities, mind numbing repetition instead.

Well, given time nothing will be the worst. Gen 2 was hated, then Gen 3 for too much water, Gen 4 was pretty well liked iirc, but then Gen 5 was hated until Gen 6, and 7 came out, and it wasn't until Gen 9 that people started rallying around Gen 5, but that doesn't take away from the fact that people really didn't like the designs, and without B2/W2 I still think Gen 5 would get more hate. AND it also still has the worst sales of any mainline Pokemon game. to be fair, I like the games. I've always liked the games, I like Scarlet and Violet even now, but I know they get a lot of hate. I think calling it universally praised is the same amount of hyperbole as saying that the game was hated

Huh, this game had like the most character-development in any. Each of your rivals has character-development, compared to like none in the rest of the series. The story does also make more sense than the stories of the other games except maybe gen1.

Yeah I went a little too harsh on the story, and character development, but I'm specifically remembering Barry, and I think he went through a pretty great change- though, in fairness I think I ought to add in B2/W2 for fair comparison. Also with the story imo it felt scattered, because like I get that there's the central theme of how to catch Pokemon, but I think N using Pokeballs defeats a lot, I think the shado triad doesn't make a ton of sense, I think the whole of team Plasma around a Prince makes little sense - I get that it's Ghetsis's team in reality, but there's a lot to the story that just seemed kinda out of place.

@shoopwoop3470 I don't really remember Barry having character development, but I've also only played Platinum of Gen4 and in both playthroughs had a period when i didn't play, meaning i probably forgot a bit. What i found interesting in BW though is that each of your rivals has character development, eveb thozgh they're annoying as heck. When i played again this year, i didn't remember that they appeared as often in the story, but there's like five rival battles before you reach route 2. Personally i really like the story because it does feel like they're gathering the ingredients for their plan and you can only occasionally stop them. Though I've also read the manga only for this and the 7th gen so i might be preoccupied (though gen7s manga sucks, like, a lot). Idk perhaps they just didn't think a lot about N using pokeballs. They just used the normal mechanic that they were used to. The evil team made sense to me, more so than the others. They put out a nice friendly face for the people to follow (N) and were scheming in the background, though the whole "being a king" thing was probably more for narrative epicness than logical reasoning. The shadow triad was quite mysterious and i wished we'd gotten more on them. I got they're like the personal bodyguards of Ghetsis but why can they teleport?

Black and white were magical for me 2nd year of high-school my bestie got a english patched rom we could play at school 😂 we couldn't save or anything. Before ds emulators worked worth a crap. The frame rate, omg. Then my husband, then bf, bought me the special edition white ds game bundle. It was so fresh and new. I LOVED HGSS. Given platinum 😢 because i never could afford the DS games and had been playing RSE until then. I HATED platinum. It didn't give those amazing Pokémon feelings. Not even a little. BW was what I was waiting for. I wish i had gotten to explore it more. I just wasn't a kid with time anymore 😢

Sawk with my name is kinda weird to see. What was the reason behind the name? anyway this year I played Pokemon white with only bug types and it wouldn't be beatable without Crustle's Sturdy and healing in cycle to reach end of enemies PP. But I really enjoyed it. My team was: Leavanny, Scolipede, Volcarona, Crustle, Galvantula and Durant. I really wanted to use Heatmor as a Bug eating Pokemon but i stayed faithful to the idea.
