The other end of the corn sack should have a seam sown in for easy opening. Just pull the string and it will unravel. if corn is new to them, it might take them a bit to find it. Pour a bigger pile so they can find it easier. We sometimes use a little vanilla extract mixed with the corn to help attract deer to new piles. Congrats and good luck!

Matt, it looks like there are some oak trees on the property. If there are acorns on the ground, the deer will walk over the corn to get to the acorns.

I agree with others on here that it takes time for them to get used to new stuff. Like corn if unfamiliar. If there are oak trees dropping acorns, the deer will walk right past corn to get acorns fairly regularly. Set up 3 or 4 cams and scout a little to find the major travel routes, scrapes, rubbed trees, and deer beds. The bad part about tracks is the deer make 4 with just a couple steps. Thanks for sharing brother!

I noticed that you were throwing out corn with your bare hands. This will put your scent all over it. Try to pour it from the bag without touching it or put in a feeder.

Everyone's comments ate spot on in my experience. If it's legal in your area, drop a salt link and/or mineral lick near your preferred corn pile. These are beneficial nutrients and they love the taste. They are not quick attractants like corn or even grain. Talk to your local feed store guys, too. They usually have good info for your area. 😊

Put some time in. On the major trails place your cameras. Later in the season, deer become wise to the hunting pressure. You need determine the major food source and where the water is in proximity to your property. Shooting lanes in thick brush is the only way to go. The deer will be on you before you usually can get a decent shot. Ethical hunting requires patience and putting time in. Wind direction and scent control are pivotal in harvesting a mature whitetail deer. Read, ask long time hunters, and ultimately putting in the time to gain that knowledge. Grew up hunting, don't have to shoot a thing...love being in the woods! Respect the game you hunt that gives it life for your sustenance. I thank the animal for its life and promise to use it to full potential. No respect for someone just shooting and animal for the head or prestige. It's truly a gift to head into nature and see it pass by. Happy hunting Matt, enjoy the lifelong experiences and memories it provides. First picture is a small deer.

Couple of suggestions from a life-long hunter. -Id do some lane clearing so you have some proper shooting lanes to shoot and see deer better. -The bag of corn should have a draw string on it so you dont have to rip the bag. -Spread your corn out more, if and when hogs do find it they will clear out those piles easily, a finer spread makes it hard for them to clear you out in a night. Lay the bag across your arm as you are carrying and use the other to throw the corn out. -If the area has not been hunted and the corn is new deer will take a bit to get used to it. -Elevate where you are hunting, either a tree climber or an ground blind on a platform. -Invest in a feeder, keeps corn on the ground constantly and the hogs wont clean you out in one go. -Ive seen deer walk right past corn to Acorns on the ground, and this year there was a ton of acorns. Look for areas around the property with acorns and tracks on the ground, thats where they generally feed. -Hunt over their natural resources, food or water. I love hunting just as much as I love fishing and it is great to see one of my favorite KZbinrs mixing it up. Good luck! If you ever want to hunt in Texas let me know, we can get you on some deer!

You're right in my wheelhouse now. I have a ranch in south central WA state, and we routinely put out 4-5 game cams, and we have left for for months at a time. We can get literally *thousands* of photos, and the bulk of them will be false triggers. We have a feeder filled with corn, set to scatter corn twice a day. The deer hear that, and know exactly when to show up. Also, get yourself a food block. They love that more than the corn. It also brings in bears and turkeys. Add a mineral block (about the size of a building brick), and put it in the same place every spring. You'll develop a "wallow" there, and they'll come every spring. Good for antler growth.

We had a very large acorn crop this year. Anytime you have a lot of acorns they prefer those over corn. Once the acorns are gone they will start eating the corn. Also it is close to the rut. When bucks start to follow and chase does they don’t worry much about eating.

Put you out a couple trophy rocks, minerals will draw them in sometimes when they're not food driven. I had the same problem you're having with raccoons and had to invest in a couple dog proof racoon traps to thin them down some. As far as a feeder goes, strap you a 3 or 4 ft section of 4" pvc pipe to a tree about an inch or so off the ground fill it with corn and put a cap on top and you've got a cheap d.i.y. gravity feeder!

Matt, Congrats on your hunting plot! Recommend only one food plot on that 40 acres. As it is now with no shooting lanes and very thick, I would recommend investing in a climber. You can cover much more area and not have to be so close. I have used ground blinds before and had a lot of success but the area was prepared for it. I just prefer a climber any way but that is just me. Oh, and putting out your corn, try not to use your hands as you may have worked up a little sweat humping it out there. It may not matter but I try not to leave my scent on anything whenever possible.

It takes time for the deer to pick up on the corn, specially when they have never had corn to eat before. Also it’s late season right now, so they are probably more lethargic because of the cold weather. I recommend you set up a feeder that is on a timer so you can get them to be patterned to come in the morning and about an hour from evening. If you don’t have time to set up a tree stand I would recommend a pop up blind, they work really well and can be relatively inexpensive. Look for natural pinch points where you may have hard woods and pines next to each other or hard woods and open fields. Deer are similar to fish they like to move near or by escape routes. Happy hunting man good luck!!

Mix in sweet feed with your corn. They type they feed to horses n other livestock. That sweet smell and flavor will bring them in. Also, if there are other more natural food sources available, such as oak trees dropping acorns, they will prefer that over your corn until the acorns are gone. Definitely get a stake or something to put a camera on your other feed area. Good luck!

We are not far to your East, don't pile corn up like that unless you want a hog problem or even more fun black bears. We find deer don't like corn as it starts to rot but the trash pandas and hogs do. Use a cheap feeder from the maker of your game cam their feeders are good stuff. Deer need time to pattern and that takes time, a couple months at least. As the natural forage disappears the deer will come to depend on the corn more. Nothing wrong with sitting one the ground but I would use a cheap tarp to make a blind and pile brush against it. The tarp will break the wind off you doing two things, keeping you warm and breaking your scent from being moved as much. Get yourself a nice blind for next year, there is nothing better than taking the kid along. As for your road, unless the ground is really muddy, tear all that out and taper the road down so that you can drive through the creek, its the only cost effective way to make that work. If its muddy or washes to much then you clearly need some drainage control on the water running down onto your road washing it out from the top along with the proper size pipe and concrete abutments.

Get a container of at least one gallon capacity and fill it 3/4 full with corn and then put water in it to cover the corn to start the fermenting process. Let the container sit around for at least 5-6 days without being disturbed then take it to the property and spread it out about a cup at a time ( be sure to use a cup / glass to keep the smell of your hands off the corn ) and don't be afraid to spread it in a very wide area and on top of and along any trails that you see are being used by the deer. Congrats on getting the property and looking forward to seeing more videos of you and the family enjoying the land and its animals

AND I don't know Alabama rules. Neat place you bought.. buy some HD rubber gloves, keep your sent down and with jersey gloves on inside rubber ones your hands stay warm..buy the jersey glove bundle so you always have a dry pair. Wash and dry with your Sox. Dry is warm damp is cold. Good hunting.

It takes them a little time to come to the corn sometimes. No matter how hard you try they know something is off. They will relax some and start coming to it eventually. I think you'll have success if you stick with it. Put a camera on one of the heavier used trails and see what's walking by. Congrats on the purchase of the hunting land. Good luck brother.

You mentioned legal shooting time. In Alabama it’s 30 min after sunset begins. I usually look at my weather app to see when sunset is and mark 30 min from there. I hunt in northwest Alabama. Deer are just now coming to feeders. Lots of acorns this year. I just getting an automatic feeder. Takes a week or two but they’ll find it.

It does take them awhile too get used to new corn piles. Also if there was no pressure there before and all the sudden your scent is out there they will know. Also try and talk to your neighbors and see how they hunt the area the deer may be skittish if they are constantly getting shot at next door. Build a few feed troths and feed them in the offseason. Getting a new place always takes a little time to figure out but you are a smart guy by next year you will have a good game plan I’m sure

My tip is get a 30-30 with an elevated scope mount. Sight in the iron sights under the scope for 25-50 yards. Then sight in the low power scope for 50-100 yards.

There is no need to ever ever sight in a 30-30 for two different ranges inside 120 yards. Correct answer on a 30-30 is a good 2-7x33 scope on the lowest mount that'll clear the barrel, sighted in at 100yds.

Two tips 1 Being as season is going now. Try not to leave much cent near the corn. 2. Deer form habits of eating in given places and times. They will find and eat your corn but for it to be effective it is best to place it in same area over time Good luck. For a quick stand use a pop up and chair or just some camo cloth on stakes

Look for natural food. Like acorns, hickory nuts pecans stuff like that,if you have a good crop of that the deer will eat that before the coven until you get the corn established. Here in Texas on the property I hunt I have my feeder hanging from an oak tree so that the deer come to natural food but will keep coming back when it’s gone because of the corn. Good luck and have fun.

Start now, right in the middle of your tract clear out an acre or two (or more if you can). Feed corn there now and stay out of it mostly. Plant a food plot come spring, keep it going thru summer. Supplement with corn in that one spot if needed come fall. Get a stand or two. Get a climber if you want to stay mobile. If you're getting winded by a spike and it spooks you need to step up your scent game too. I don't put on my outer layer of hunting clothes (boots included) until I am out of the truck at the woods. Use a cover scent judiciously, and make sure you take a scent free shower before each trip. Corn isn't magic, especially if the deer are pressured they may be wary of it. This time of year I like to hunt well worn trails near beds. Look for fresh deer poop.

Very interesting information you have gathered. I would go and bait and hunt the high traffic areas. Go to the deer rather than try to force them to change their habits. Also if you are hunting that close to your bait you need to be elevated to keep your scent away. If you are going to ground hunt back off 50-100 yards, otherwise build or invest in a simple tree stand. I would also try baiting with something that smells good, like a big pile of windfall, bruised apples. They won’t be able to resist that. Good Luck!

Depending on where your property is located, here in nwfl, the rut is gonna be happening right around the 18th. Try some rice bran as well, Unflavored . Invest in a cell camera, they will save you time and money from going to check them( not spypoint) had great luck with the tactacam. Pay attention to the wind and use it to yoir advantage. Not a professional by any means just letting you know what has worked for me. Good luck and happy hunting!

Try using a "quality" deer scent attractant. Disperse the scent on tops of bushes and on tree trunks high off the ground. Like spokes on a wheel radiating out make at least 6 spokes 18:53 30 yards long spanning out from your plot. Try adding a buschel of fresh corn on top of the food plot. It will release an attractant scent. Note, deer scent attractants work best on days with breezes. Too little breeze helps little unless they stumble on it Too much breeze, well the scent gets blown away, might consider surf fishing on those high winds days, as deer usually lay down then.

It’s a different scene for you…I’ve found you introduce something new to the area it takes them a few days to come. I’ve just recently introduced a feeder to my property and it took 9 days before they showed up. Also get you a Moultrie Delta, it sends the pics to your phone. I think it was $120 a year for the service!!

Matt, the young lady that said they shy away from strange smells was spot on. They will eventually come to corn but if they've never been around it, it will take some time. Great place to set up a stand is near a preferred food source if you already have one such as white oak acorns, persimmons, greenbrier, and others plus almost any fruit tree. If there is a food source near your land, such as corn, then it would not take long for them to be on it. Don't put out apples if there are no apples anywhere close. Good luck!

The first pic is a deer that's facing you, the dark upward pointing part at top is its tail coming up when the camera light startles it.

Give it more time, here in ohio same thing. Looks thick in there. Try hunting in the a.m. Great bedding area. But i recommend if you gonna bait them give them something no one else is. Step 1: buy large cheap jar of peanut butter. Step two: in the woods open plastic jar from the inside screw into a tree with a screw about chest high and secure lid. Step 3: take pocket knife and jab holes in the bottom of jar. Deer absolutley love this but... so do squirrel and raccoon.

X Read this with interest. I own 50 acres and feed it with only moderate interest from my local deer population. I think the reason is a lot of heavy pressure from leases around me. Deer learn to associate corn with people. Im im Texas so have fed corn for over 50 years and theyll still come to it but it is relative tolocal pressure and availability of other food sources. Corn sopplies only 6% protein. Deer are ruminants and must put food in their gut every 4 hours to keep their gut percolating. Try adding SOME protein supplement. I use a formula called Double Down and my dèer have learned to love it. ( I actually hunt a lease about 10 miles from my 50 acres). Since I live on my land I just want to have deer around to watch. Things I've read here I do and don’t agree with: Don’t ferment your corn...deer like fresh. Use a coffee can or gloves to sprrad and dont make piles - in nature deer walk and eat ( think picking up acorns or when browsing). Get a mechanical feeder with timer to condition your deer. Feed all year except mid to late spring when there’s lots of new growth or at least cut back. If theres a lot of acorns they will go to that food source over corn. Conversely when it is wet your acorns will sour and the deer will come to the corn. Wear rubber boots into your hunt area and do all you can to control your scent. Don’t hunt when the wind is wrong. Conditions deer to your presence. Ill add that feeding on my lease is pretty successful but stands are far apart and pressure not as great. I feed a corn and Double Down half and half mix. Some on the lease also mix horse/mule sweet feed in tròughs.

Matthew, Your problem might be that your neighbors have been supplementally feeding the deer since early fall and they are no longer hungry when they cross your property, if that's the case you are likely sol this season! The way to win the war is to keep corn out all year long, it wont take a lot of corn to keep their attention during the spring and summer but you should keep enough so they know where to look should they want some! As next fall approaches step up your game, put out more corn, add some salt blocks! I would suggest you invest in some camera's that send photo's directly to your smart phone, that way you don't stink up the area when you collect your memory cards! We live up here in Tallapoosa county along the banks of Hillabee creek, my son has fed several hundred lbs of corn in one feeder since back in the spring, he has photo's with as many as 7 bucks in one photo, we seem to have more bucks than doe's in this area! I love watching the video's you guys post, you ,Brad and Brant, keep it up and best of luck with the store!

Adding a scent / attractant to the corn or the area of the corn will get them used to the corn. Also, since you are rifle hunting, back off to 50 yards, or more, where you have a clear view of the area. You will see a bigger area and be further away from your target. Good luck. 🍀

Try adding some molasses on the corn doesn't take a lot. Gives something sweet. Definitely was a deer. Get a cheap pop-up blind because the deer can see the u v brightener in your cloth and will avoid you like the plague. If you would more ideas let me know been hunting 45 years. Season just ended here.

40 years of deer hunting under my belt. Do not put food in the middle of your property by doing so you decrease your hunting area and chances because you can’t get in there without alerting every form of wildlife on your property that you are there and do not clear deer cover deer come to cover so piles of brush is fine. You need to find two things a way to enter your property and good food placements meaning finding the best way you can access your property without blowing your cover Brush is inviting to deer. Putting your food near a clear trail or road you can walk in on and park at least 100 yards from where you’re going to hunt and sneak in no door slamming. Arrive 50 minutes before sunrise deer are less alarmed. Legal shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise so getting there in enough time to slip in and hunt over food ups your chances. Good Luck! Feed is expensive no need to put 25 pounds out you need to spread it wide and thin maybe 5 or so pounds use a large cup and sling it all around It makes them have to stay in there and spend more time than as in a pile. I could write a book I’ll stop here. Oh yeah! The best bait is by Backwwoods Atraction Flame Kissed 16% corn+soybean brings the big boys in during the day.
