Fuel pumps are most common major issue with these cars. My former neighbor (house has since been sold twice) had the same year and did it himself in his driveway, took him over a week... One thing I have heard people do is partially drop the tank, mark the the spot in the body above, and cut a hole. Then cut a slightly larger plate, drill holes for small screws, and cover it over.

Tyler- hope all is well and everyone is healthy. Watching the fuel pump replacement brought back memories and made me count my blessings. Replaced two pumps in my lifetime and both were much easier. First was a 1986 Mustang GT 5.0 with an electric fuel pump. That was done in the driveway during a snow storm and required the removal of two straps and the tank was free. The other was even easier. 1978 Dodge Little Red Express Truck with Mopar 360 and if memory is correct the mechanical pump might have had only two bolts. These were done well before KZbin but I may have consulted a Chilton's Repair book. 😀 That was an entertaining and informative video. The fire certainly added production value. The Wizard is amazing!

The next day I changed the oil, tires and all fluids. I've got 13,000 miles on it 1 year later and the only other thing it needed was a new oxygen sensor back in September. IIRC, The 4th gen windshield rake was so bad that the engine was mounted on a cradle and changing the spark plugs involved partially pulling the engine out of the car. It was mounted on a special cradle to rock the engine forward to access the rear plugs. Heard that from a friend who worked at the GM dealer.

This is something I've found unforgivable in US cars. Everytime I've had to change a fuel pump in a Euro or Japanese car it's been a simple 30-min deal through a hatch under the back seat. On an American car, this wasn't even the most ridiculous one I've seen.

Cut a hole in the floor like most everyone. Did the same thing on a 94 T top. Smoke burnout and everything but the pump was done by cutting a hole with a 1/4 side attached.
