Hi Alex, had the same happen with my C63...just cruising along casually and blew a piston. Check the spray patterns on the injectors that were in there along with the pcv. Those were the culprits for me.
@RothBeyondTheGrave
@RothBeyondTheGrave 2 жыл бұрын
Wow. Terrifying, & sorry to hear that. Where does the pcv system failure come in to play here? Was it excessive amounts of oil getting by just like the excessive amounts of fuel from the bad injector? I'm lower on the totem pole with a 3.5L m272 & I'm at the point where I'm going to be doing my oil separator & it's cover on a regular basis. Even after 20k ish mi, it starts letting way too much oil past gumming up that weak manifold. Edit: I'm an idiot & forgot how the injectors go through the manifold. If the m156 pcv system is as shit as the m272's, those injectors are getting all that carbon.

The car has registration and inspection stickers from NY which expire in April of 2023, I think what happened is the owner you bought it from probably bought it with a blown engine, tried fixing it themselves and gave up. NY registration has to be renewed every 2 years so that car was registered no longer than 1 year 5 months ago, and knowing the kind of people who drive these kinds of cars here in NYC, paired with the aftermarket additions, I'm pretty sure this car was run pretty hard, had a fuel/air problem that the owner tried to figure out themselves (manifold gaskets), and eventually the engine locked and it was sold to someone in PA, and then to you.

Hey Alex, when you had shown where the car was located, I was shocked. My father back in the early 90's, worked at Orthodox auto as a rollback dispatch man. It's funny that the place you bought the car from was a place I knew. The bug you seen was "Spotted Lantern Fly". Harmless to humans, but harmful to vegetation. It eats greenery like crazy. And it reproduces like crazy. It's on a "watchlist" to keep from spreading to other states.

so, i had a stuck open injector on my M156 but caught it in time to keep from hydrolocking. Below is a video showing what you WANTED to see the fuel rail/injectors doing... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYnMeoeBgq2Si9E great work guys and great car, that interior is relatively rare and very desirable.

With how frequently modern engines have top end or piston failures they should start coming with a split sleeve that only goes down the first half of the way (the majority of the force and heat is in that top portion anyways and it’s relatively likely that damage would be more likely up there) the design should be so that with the head off and the motor mount out on the opposite side to tilt the engine you can slip it past the body of the car and slide it in enough to use a tool to press it in that mounts where the head does. With a system like that you can save probably 90% of the engines that otherwise can’t be and possibly get some level of functionality out of the other 10% aside from crank failures, any lower cylinder wall damage could even just have the wall cleaned enough that the rings don’t get caught, or a possible stepped bore could be made so the bottom is also a sleeve and rests on a ridge and a groove in that accepts the top sleeve which would have a wider top sealing area (wet sleeve) so the bottom seals can slip past it enough to allow the previously mentioned pressing tool to fit.

These kind of cars seem so cool and fun on paper and in theory, but I'm glad I never bought one. Super high performance cars are a crapshoot, and they would cause too much anxiety for me to ever enjoy properly.

I love it so much that Alex makes Peter smell at least one thing, or brings up the way something smells and looks to Peter for verification in EVERY video, and you can hear Alex remembering in his voice as he’s saying it 😂🤣 kills me every time hahah by far the best automotive channel/duo on KZbin, hands down. I love what you do for the community, and the knowledge/tips/tricks you share for the weekend warrior to have confidence in themselves to try and knockout a job in their garage, and the confidence to just work on their own cars in general. You’re a good guy Alex, and the car community desperately needs more guys like you 🙏🏼 As always, stay awesome man, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming in the future, and to see a few of the other projects back in the spotlight all minty and completed 😎
