The Aerial should extend when the Radio is turned on. Check the front chassis rails from inside the wheel arch, they are notorious for rusting from the inside out. Loved my Mk2.5 MX5 👍🏼

Tom, Tbh I would sell it as a drift car and get your money back on it but give it a hoon🤣😂 first 🤔😉 I think the work on the arches and the repaint will cost more than you will get back on it! I really hope you prove me wrong but I think in this economic climate which is not going to get better in the short term. Projects like this will be for sale in large quantities. My advice would be enjoy it and move it on quickly! I think your ultimate goal will of a BMW M3 will come a lot quicker than you think as money gets tighter. 😉 Cheers Dave

Hate to put a downer on it but I had a mk2 for a short while, rust is the biggest problem. Rear inner wheel arches will be gone, leading to the outer arch problem you have, sills will be shot towards the rear wheels, inner and outer chassis legs will be de-laminated, so common on these things, doors are a problem, boot floor if I remember right. Wings are bolt on so no problem there. But…a fantastic car to own and drive if you get them sorted properly. Do hold a great re-sale value too once sorted

Not sure about this one. With it being a mod to someone's taste is it everyone's taste . Also is the market for this type of car small . Anyway still quite a bargain . Do you intend to lift the car slightly so the tires don't rub . Siphon some of the fuel out for more profit.

Sell the wheels, and steering wheel, they don’t add enough value to the car, Put the old steering wheel back on that’s free put a cheap set of scrap yard rims and tyres on it instead, leaves a big chunk of change in the budget to sort the rust Offer the new buyer the sway bar for sale with the car or you can sell it separate more money for the nxt car

Like others have said I’d be tempted to sell the mods and the car separately to boost the profit…or keep it for a little open top motoring on the few sunny days we have over the summer. I’ve had MG TF and Saab 9-3 convertibles and they’re great fun. And is that a wind deflector folded down behind the seats ?

I'm with Matt, that car is blue, I don't care what Mazda say 😜🤣. I don't know the values of them, what you paid for it so this is a guess at 16:33 (paused) of what figure my head says £1700......I could be surprised or highly embarrassed when I unpause this. Even at my age I'd have bought this but put it back to standard to limit me looking like a tw@t driving it lol.

I think the rust will definitely be much worse than you appear to be anticipating, the Mk1s and 2s are always bad on the arches, sills and chassis legs. Sell the mods separately to make more money, as you have found out they don't actually add much value when selling the car. Find some rust free front arches, MOT and done, If you start to enjoy this car you won't get to the M3.

I think you should spend £1,000 of your own money and keep the car. If you wanted one when you were younger, chances are you won't find one like that cheaper. Take the 1k and go for a different car to flip and just have a new project for the channel along side the mini restoration. Plenty of content to be made with a car like this and the pressure to sell this to upgrade to the next one will probably prevent most of that from happening!

Tom, my friend… what a bargain!!!! As a previous MK2 MX-5 owner myself, there are a couple things you must know. 1. The rust is a known issue on these cars. Mine was really good, but still had the same wheel arches rust (although much less). It’s something you should address and fix for good. 2. Part of that issue might be due to clogged gutters. When you put the roof down, you’ll see some gutters on both sides, behind the seats. Make sure they are unclogged with a stick or wire. 3. These cars are really reliable, I made a long road trip on mine and it behaved amazingly. It’s a blast to drive. 4. The aerial/antenna should go up as soon as you turn the key on, and down when you shut it off. Might be something wrong with it, or some wires might be broken. Lastly, I would try to make it as original as possible. I like mods, but these cars tend to age better original. I know some things might not be easy to revert, but you can easily flip some of those mods and make it look nice without them. Or just polish the car, make it look good and sell it 😋 Enjoy it, as you will miss it so much when gone. Can’t wait for the next episode!! In styyyyyle!! ✌🏼
