Guys, just for your information, Alpinas were and still are imported by Sytner of Nottingham. Frank Sytner was a racing driver and had a BMW dealership in Nottingham City centre and still is the only official importer of Alpinas. The B10 you have bought is a Nottingham registered car and will have come from Sytner of Nottingham. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. It will be one hell of a car. Rob: I'm an old bloke and started with 6v Pos earth cars. It was really important, when jump starting, to use the engine as the earth so the current had the shortest route to complete the circuit. If you connect to the body then every connection in between resists the passage of current. Love watching the vids and am learning about modern cars.

Of all the potential restoration projects you've had on the channel, this one is well worth the job, the money and the time. These are big collectors items now boys, worth an absolute mint. The E39 B10 V8 was severely underrated in its day, but is is classed as one of the best Alpina ever made and with only 277 made, this could be one of the last of it type in the country. And, Alpina announced in 2022 that they were reopening Alpina parts production to keep all classic Alpinas serviced and on the road. 👍

The E39 is one of my favourite older BMW shapes regardless, but something as special as this is just MEGA! Proper saloon car! It makes me sad to think of it sat there for so many years but happy now it's on to pastures new 👌🏼 I'd love to turn those headlights around haha!

No.371 was assembled in 02.98, first registered in 05.98. It is 356 Vermontgrün (super rare colour on E39 chassis) with leather Nappa Englischgrün (also rare). Seems to be in pretty good nick being outside such long time. Usually at least the headliner comes down. These engines don't tend to size. Just the typical low battery clicking from the V8 - the lump just needs just lots of power to crank over. No idea for the locked doors though - looks like a mechanical fault and / or someone messed with it. Unusual defect... Last time seen one? Oh right, yesterday night in the garage... 😅🙈

Absolutely adore an E39, genuinely believe this is the best a car has ever been even now. BMW got it so right with these. Funny doing a job at a gym in chigwell someone was driving a really beat up Alpina identical to that to the gym daily, Was sad to see it so rough. But nice to see it still being a work horse. Pretty sure it's just the E60 M5 V10 and M3 4.0 V8 that have rod bearing issues - these v8's are mega reliable but have other issues like valve stem seals etc.

I love an E39, I’ve had mine for 15 years! I hope you find a workaround for the front doors not opening, my drivers door wouldn’t open a few weeks back and I had to damage my door card to get access to the latch to open the door, it was a nightmare. They fail internally and I’ve since fitted a replacement secondhand latch and it’s working fine again.

That's a nice car Gents. I loved all the banter during the recovery. Good job you told Chris that you were rolling though, could have been a bit 'blue' on this family channel! I think she will run without much bother but don't 'toast' the starter Rob. Can you rig a fuel line up on the bonnet with fresh fuel, I don't know how easy it is to get to the fuel line? Anyway you two know what you are doing so I won't try and tell you what to do. This will be a great project and I don't think it will take that long to get it done so good luck Rob and Chris.
