I got one of these Chibos for Christmas, and other than changing out the electronics (which I would even do to an Epiphone) it plays great, no major fret issues, the neck is super comfortable and the finish is beautiful. I can care less if it's not a "real" Gibson

Eric, these guitars are not ‘replicas’ or ‘clones’. People use those terms to justify buying something that is counterfeit. A replica would be authorised, or just a Gibson or Epiphone that replicates an older model. So they are fakes, as you’ve made clear. I don’t care if people want to buy them. But they always get sold, eventually, even though selling a counterfeit is against the law. Some people are not as honest as you would be and there’s always the chance to sucker someone who buys these thinking they are something they are not.

I recently sold one on eBay. I changed the headstock logo to Chibson. Someone reported it as a fake Gibson. EBay sent me a nice email and explained why they took down my guitar from eBay. I reposted it and blacked out the Chibson logo and the Made in USA. The new owner was happy that it said Chibson, not Gibson on the headstock. I'll be changing the logo to Chibson on this one, like I have done with the others. When on display, no one will get fooled that it is the real thing. The real guitars are to damn pricey. Also, if something happens to one, I'm not going to be mad. My idea is to hang them on my wall in my theater/music/game room with a picture of the musicians holding one that looks like it next to each guitar.

I completely agree with you that people call them replicas and clones as a cope to justify their purchase. I've done it myself even. Where the difference is: I would compare these Chibsons to someone who made color photocopies of paper money; they're not fooling anyone. Whereas a true counterfeiter would wash the ink off of a real US bill and then print a higher denomination on it, that would fool anybody. Like the Chris Derrig Les Pauls for example. These Chibsons? I truly don't know how to classify them, other than fakes or the worst counterfeit guitars you've ever seen!! lol

The problem with Chibson is that it's still playable. If you get one, you will eventually strive for a real one like a gateway drug. Only a sycophant is going to drop a real one in the hands of their eight year old kid that "just" discovered classic rock. Ever the JRs were supposed to be cheap... not in this economy. I don't think Gibson understands this part.

several of these jewels have found their way here, 2 are very much like yours. I completely overhauled one and made a real player out of it would be hard to tell from the real deal, another one I think I can do the same, but several others have all kinds of build problems. everyone who has played my black one thought it was a Gibson lol

You would be very lucky to get Korean Alpha pots on a Chibson. In the non premium pot world Alphas are pretty high up the list and are pretty good pots. Chibsons usually come with the dirt cheap Chinese pots, the last couple that I ordered I ordered them with no hardware whatsoever.they were both LP Customs one in black one in white I fitted them with Grover tuners, Seymour Duncan Hot Phat Cat Silencer pickups that are P90's in a humbucker size shielded case with black chrome pickup rings, CTS 500K pots, Switchcraft switch, Gotoh black chrome bridge and tailpiece Dunlop black chrome strap locks and a Graphteck nut, cotton covered waxed wiring, Gibson Witch Hat knobs. Orange drop capacitor. and shielded cavities and a String Butler, genuine Gibson pickguards. I have bought 5 Chibsons and none of them have had issues with the binding, they are not all Les Pauls though.

One thing I’ll give chibsons and the other foreign les Paul makers is the back plates actually fit the holes properly ..unlike the three Gibson’s I own that have a 1.5 -2.5mm gap around them and the wood of the body .and sit 1-2 mm lower than the back of the body .terrible fitment ..

bought a gibson doubleneck in the very early 00's. i went to unscrew the back plate to have a look, one screw spun without resistance and wouldn't come out. when i did get the plate off, that screw was just hanging in mid air. got some plastic wood and had to build up that bit of semi circular wood that the screws normally screw into. there''s other sloppiness here and there as well. pickups they used at the time were horrific. had them rewired, and despite gibsons lack of QC then, it wound up sounding amazing. hats off to wolfetone pickups for giving me the sound i was looking for. Out of a handful of other budget guitars I have in my collection, only the chibsons feel the closest to the real Gibsons they are trying to copy,if my eyes were closed and someone handed me a chibson, I would definitely know it's a guitar that deserves to wear that name,us players know what makes a great guitar, everything must line up perfectly,and like most chibsons the guitar must be playable right out of the box,if you want to know what it's like to play a Gibson LP,get a chibson, I call mine stunt doubles,these are way more than your average budget guitar, these nail all the specs, and are the reason we buy knock offs to begin with,why wait to save up for one LP when you can get 10-15 chibson for the price of one Gibson LP, my only regret is that I didn't discover chibsons a lot sooner. 🆒🤣👍

Enjoy my 3 Chibsons. Will never sell them as "real" Gibsons. I tell everyone who checks them out that they're fake. All three are beautiful and play very well. Not everyone one can afford a Ferrari but my '72 Pantera will do just fine. I don't believe there are too many ill informed people out there who couldn't tell right away that these aren't fake. The laser etched serial # is the easiest clue.

Did ya hear about the Huge multi million dollar mega bust of "chibson" guitars seized just before xmas at the port of san pedro california? A literal whole shipload! I wonder how big a dent that put on the market? Anyone who buys off of Chinese marketplace apps online better likely buy now! Stock up on all those gadgets and widgets while you can! Trump is going to put a major damper on all this shit and our inflation is going to continue with less supplies and more demand. I doubt US production is going to rise and if it does, i wont be surprised that we show major flaws in quality control. We will become laughing stock! Made in the USA isnt what it once was. I doubt it will be, at least not at an exonomical pricepoint. Hopefully I am wrong wrong wrong!

Alotsa problems with these chibsons.... yeah they look pretty from a distance but they are all about making a sows ear into a silk purse. Poly finish makes em nice and shiny. That aint no maple cap and often isnt going to even be veneer. Its freakin manufacture "Photo flame" over a pressed fiber substrate like that fake grain seen on your old speaker cabs or cheap Ikea MDF shelving. In this case its a photo flame over Basswood for the top cap and not even maple veneer. The "pancake" center of your body is indeed mahogany. A bunch of blocks of mahogany scraps that have all been laminated together. The back of the guitar is a thin sheet of mahogany veneer to hide the fact that its bunch of blocks of wood all composited together. The necks will usually have much lessor angle than a real Lester and usually will be a scarf joint. (Actually stronger with the wood grain changing directions). A plastic molded nut is also another cheapening that appears on these things. The neck tenon is usually sloppy fit and will utilize shims and the voids are filled with epoxy. As for binding,,,,, the material is always wrong color and it wider to cover the laminations and voids. The higher end chibsons have now included a real cheesey fret nib binding on the fret ends with a half moon profile that matches the fret crown and does not feather the edge and is more adrupt. Once again the material and the color of the fret end nib binding is way off just as its shape. Hardware is typical metric epiphone lower midgrade. The bridge with its sloppy saddles with deep molded in Vee string slots all the same width on all the strings along with its fat slotted mounting posts is another sore thumb giveaway. Electronics are equally low quality mini pots and knockoff chrome plated copycat switchcraft and tin plate contacts. Thin phenolic wafers in the jack and switch construction. Pups are crappy plastic bobbins with molded in pole pieces and utilize powdered core ceramic magnets. Often times being very muddy overwound and microphonic. You get what you pay for... these axes are all looks. Sure ya can make em playable, yes, they are getting better looking knock offs, yeah you can mod them and they are cheap. But today there are so many inexpensive guitars that are very playable. These knockoffs are cheap affordable entry level instruments. Same as many value based consumer instruments. They are not a pro level quality real deal. I dont know the fascination that so many of these youtube show n tell people have with these guitars. They produce a video and continue to disclaim and poop poop buying the axe and excuse the purchase as doing a public service to show the audience how terrible but how almost decent they are.... yet they coninue to buy them and show them off on you tube.... come on now and just admit your obseesion. I suppose you didnt enhale in college nor did you let your friends see you riding a moped in high school, when you actuslly enjoyed bonking that one girl as your dirty secret. Its a new world, ya no longer need to hide, but come on out and take pride in you gay self!

These are great guitars for teenaged fanboys, the kid just starting out on guitar and something for santa to giveaway to the children. They are a beginner low to mid range guitar that look pretty and like all budget guitars these days fully playable. They make excellent props and are good substrate to get your fave guitar hero to autograph. If you are a regular everyday joe shmoe guitarist weekend warrior playing your local dive bar or you hit up open mic night during the week , maybe you might consider one of these to fix up and actually utilize as a player, but you could also build a nice partscaster for less or buy a mid level giutar such as a upper level Epiphone or best idea get an old Jap beater from the 80's.... Lots of great gutars out there and lots of new cheap pretty guitars that are playable. These guitars are just for pretending and for the kids.... Here's an Idea for you DYI guys, why not fix up a real Lester husk... plenty of stripped down studios that make for fantastic project . Personalize a studio and makenit your own or even buildnit up into a standard or 59 burst forgery yourself! Not much more money than fixing up one of these and you end up with a much more solid and worthy guitar. For the real ambitious, lets see your copycat 59 scratch builds. Yes thats right scratch build a real guitar that really rivals the Gibson. Some guys have built very convincing 59 forgeries such as Slashes guitar... The forgeries have gone as far as building bursts from beatup older less popular models such as the LP Jr or found 56 or 57 goldtops and tore thsm down to make very convincing fraudulent forgeries of mega dollar 59 Bursts! These Chibsons are toys by comparison and really are not as great a starting mod platform as you might think. Alrhough they are much better than they used to be, they still can hardly even rival a legit epiphone being churned out the same factories.

You are not wrong. I have videos of work I had to do and parts I replaced on all of the Chibson's I own. I did some work on a few that I have given away and they are still being played to this day. You get a body and neck that look nice, already finished. The frets maybe ok, or maybe not ok. I have replaced frets, replaced electronics, for what... Just to make the guitars better for myself. It is going on 4 years with the 5 i still have and they are all still holding together and very playable. I have had no complaints from my buddies father-in-law about the ones I have given to him. I also get to see them in action when I go to their house. But, yes.... The money one would put into a Chibson is mindless and I could have bought a real Gibson.. I have one Gibson left and that's my 2019 Blueberry Burst. I got rid of me SG and Thin Les Paul. The only Gibson that I didn't have to do a set up on was my Blueberry Burst. Everything else needed a mild set up, just a few tweaks.

Looks good. I have 3 Chibsons. I’ve upgraded the pickups and pots on all 3. Definitely fun project guitars. Some of the routing is a bit rough. They all have some high frets but all playable. My Epiphone Jerry Cantrell is a far superior guitar.

Thought I was a fairly knowledgeable player with 40 years of experience... but i saw a "fender jaguar" nirvana style guitar & at 650 bucks i had to buy ASAP!!! I beat an other player from buying it... never thought twice about it !!! 🤔 recently after the customs seized Chyna geetar ordeal, their was a jaguar in the pile of seized guitars ... then I started lookin closely at it... its really close to a real one , but parts are cheap and serial number looks wrong !!! Screwed !!! But imma put good parts cuz it is that good !!!!

I bought a Byrdland copy from eBay like this, although my headstock is blank. I too was surprised by the quality. 😝 I got it for 112 dollars plus shipping. It was listed as "not intonatoble". I think they didn't realize what the reduced scale length was supposed to be. But to your customs point...did you notice where the seller was? I got the impression that my "Birdland" was already in the States.

For some people this may be the only way they will have the opportunity to own the guitar they want at a price that's reasonable. What is sad it the cost of the real Gibson is so bloated... they make excellent guitars... but are over priced. I have never bought a Chibson (I have been tempted).... I do however own Fender Mod shop Strats and a Gibson SG and Les Paul... I never play them,... because I love my Ibanez JEM and my PRS guitars are way better. Life is weird...
