Bought my 05 SRT-4 new, Orange Pearl Blast was the color and it served me well up to 2014 when I sold it cause the family grew. Solid little car that was fun to drive and i still miss it. Seeing this makes me nostalgic for the old gal.

First and last brand new car I ever purchased was a 1998 neon sport 2dr coupe, good little car, wish I had it today with the gas prices. but you always hit your neon the steering wheel getting in and hit your neon the bottom of the dash too.

Those metal brackets go in the rear window when u roll it partially down. It's designed for audio to help the flow the base and sound coming out of the car in audio comps and stuff. Some folks also use it for track days as well. I've seen it more in audio, tho at least in my area.

Love the Neon, but mine went up on flames after a backyard mechanic did my timing belt. Mine was stick and the bushing went bad and it was hard to put into gear sometimes.

Hey Randy, the parts in the trunk install in the rear windows for ventilation usually a track use type of thing because you cant have your windows down.

I also loved my car that was one luxurious step above my beloved neons and that was my V6 RT dodge stratus 5-6 spd manual! Coupe! Red with black leather inside and sunroof and spoiler. It was stock except the dual exhaust MAN that car WAS SMOOTH and FAST and so easy to shift quick And gear ratio was perfect so I wasn’t changing gears so often cuz they seemed to be spread out. Like in 2nd to get to 3rd it wouldn’t get to 3k RpM til like 35 mph. Then I’d go into 3rd and that was light normal speed driving! I could’ve driven that car cross country without any body aches it was so smooth! And fun to drive and a very WIDE body car and low so very responsive! That car had 335k miles on it when I got smashed in the rear! I was so upset it wasn’t repairable Now the only ones I seem to find are the AUTOMATIC or TrIPTONIC ones 🤢🤮 Those had such weak and poorly built transmissions especially since they were 4 speeds and major sensor/electrical issues We’re so common even at low miles. I really want to find another manual RT coupe in V6 in good condition again

I've had two Neons. The second one, 2001, the wiring in the steering column caught fire twice (ended up you could not turn the headlights on) and when I dumped it the oil light was flashing despite having oil at normal on the dip stick. I bought a Honda civic after that nightmare.

Check the shifter bushings on the top of the trans. Bet those bushings are gone. Also known for clutch fork wearing out which makes it hard to get into certain gears when car is on.

Back in the day almost every Neon in the area had been stolen at least once…it was so bad the local Dodge dealer loaned our dept one to use as a bait car …we would put it out in a parking lot and just wait…sometimes within minutes hoodlums would try and steal it …made many arrests that way

Those things on the trunk are called Window Vents, we put between the window and the door to get some fresh air on Trackdays, they generate less drag than the window open :D Glad to see that this neon was used the right way.

Shift cable bushings go bad on these. It’s a really easy fix and you can get to it right from the top. I had one while I was in college, was a great car and took quite a beating and still averaged 34mpg.

Not only do the shift cable bushings go bad on them all time but there’s also an little bushing that goes on the bottom of the actual shift handle that ovals out over time and also causes them to grind 3rd gear and not shift into 5th gear I used to have buy tons of them and keep them in my one srt4 that I raced because I was breaking one every race on top of the axles lol

There's a couple grommets on the trans linkage. But, the fact it goes into 5th when it's idling but not when it's moving tells me the 5th gear snychro is out. You can try rev matching the RPM to try and get it to slide into 5th.

What a steal that fast bullet has the Mitsubishi power plant that was installed into the Mitsubishi Eclipse of that year and the Nean being half the weight so super fast draw back super hard to work anything to fix you have to take half of the motor to fix or just to get to it .

@@obadel5092 the eclipse uses a different motor, block and head are different however you can put the mitsu 420a head on the neon block to swap your exhaust and intake front to back. But not the same engine at the end of the day

Nice find! A word of caution though- Although that 2.4 is a non interference engine in the traditional sense because the pistons won't hit the valves, the intake and exhaust valves can apparently hit each other if the camshafts turn out of time with each other. There's plenty of debate about how likely that actually is and I'm not sure how often that actually happens, but it's something to be aware of.

Sounds like it has a diablosport 93 octane tune for 15psi. These are notorious for third gear issues, grinds and kicks out of gear!!
