Nice work! The job on the roof looks well done and is absolutely mandatory before starting any other work. Make sure that the drainage is diverting the water immediately off the house and check if there is any insulation in the floor as you will be battling damp, which can be very frustrating. I have renovated three properties in Puglia and learnt my lessons. Feel free to reach out if you need some info and most importantly enjoy the ride!
@NakedPugliaАй бұрын
Thank you, I will! I've been for a few strong storms and I'm good on the drainage. The moisture/damp thing I've heard is an issue with the stone houses. Not sure how I'm going to address that. I am only using calce paint so the walls can breathe better. It's been closed up for 20 years which didn't help.
@masseriamo8564Ай бұрын
@@NakedPuglia using calce paint is a good start and there are several other things you could do, depending on how much effort you want to put into it and of course cost. Drainage on the outside of the house and get the walls to breathe can be an absolute game changer. There's as well some special render that you can use, which helps a lot. You can use that one to plaster the first 50-70cm (sorry I'm on metrics ;-) here) from the floor up. There are many more things you could but as you already figured out yourself there is only that much you can do with such an old stone house. But hey, looks like you have a wonderful project going there. I'm based in the Salento region, in Galatina, feel free to pop in.

@NakedPugliaАй бұрын
@puffypanda7516 Thank you, the roof repairs came to about 3800. I'm not bringing the roof back to stone, just the inside. Redoing the electric to put it in the walls and stripping to stone on the inside and finishing the interior is going to be roughly 20k +/-. It's a big job to bring it back to stone. I'm hopeful.

Great youve begun YT Channel. I’ve watched PastaGrammar since they began about 3rd video too... and in just a few yrs they've grown & created great biz for themselves. You now have opportunity to do the same. Funny Cute: while in restaurant you tell us all to look & see it from inside while you turn in circle... but entire time, lol, camera was on you! Great house & will enjoy to follow & see the scenery. With the olive trees etc... do you think you’ll be pressing your own oil? (Where that thought came from idk!) I’d be interested on occasion as you talk w/ Italians how they feel about ExPats moving into Italy too. You know we hear that the towns in Italy is dying... and that’s it’s overrun by migrant crime... but I am realizing it’s not as bad as news had my mind wrongly thinking. YOU are 54... perfect age to make that jump... I also feel it’s impt to share that if you have the thought in back of your mind, make the move earlier than later. I’m 65 and looking to make the move... but oh how I wish I’d have done the move at 54, as you still are young enough to have a great ten yrs to build the life you desire & accomplish more. Just bcause you retire~ it doesn’t mean to give up on ambitions to do & create more that will still benefit you in the future... a small biz etc. It’s a great place for Round 2 of life! So this is my own regret- to not have planned life out to make this jump at 54! Enjoy your new life! I had lived in Ankara Turkey for three years... and it’s wonderful to be amidst new and different culture & continue learning... it also caused me to appreciate America... so many of us take it for granted. Best to u on new channel. .

Thank you! I always wanted to move to Italy. Even at 55 I wish I would have done it sooner. I have a lot of family that live in Italy and I've been visiting since I was a child. So a slight change in career for me and here I am! I won't be full time until around May of 2025 though.
@stevewuertz3598Ай бұрын
Welcome to Italy and I subscribed and wish you well. I'm trying to plan a move within the next two years. I'd (and many other foreigners) would appreciate your detailing renovation costs. Often times, I don't save a property I'm viewing thinking it will be too much $$ when all I know if the cost of materials and labor in the USA. I'm finishing the renovation of a 120 year old place in Austin Texas that I'll sell to fund the Italy move. I've been looking more at in Town,/Village/Borgo setting vs rural as I'd like to be nearer to a potential dating pool as I may be moving as a straight single guy . BTW-what was the summer heat like? The ungodly Austin summer temps are what is driving me away and I had the guess/hunch that Puglia would be too darn hot.
@NakedPugliaАй бұрын
Thank you! Ostuni is a good choice lots of people year round. Ceglie is small but has an eclectic group of people. Young and hip(20 30) to older more seasoned like myself. Bari reminds me of East Village NYC in alot of ways. And Lecce is also amazing. The summer heat is nothing for me coming from Florida and definitely not like the crazy heat records the US has been having. I'd say the weather is a bit more like Southern California.

I'm going to Portugal (the Algarve) from Atlanta. I looked at the potential to move to Puglia but I was really concerned about keeping a driver's license because apparently, you must pass a driver's test in Italian by your 12th month.
@NakedPugliaАй бұрын
Yes the Italian system for cars and drivers licenses is so backwards. If you're from the EU and some other countries you can transfer it. But not from the US, you have to take a test. If you become a resident then you do have to get an Italian license. If you're not full time you can use your american one. And you can't buy a car unless you're a resident. It's stupid
@obfuscateidentity2329Ай бұрын
Can't you just drive with the AAA IDP + USA drivers license?
@chuckmurray1825Ай бұрын
@@NakedPuglia So you basically have one year to become fluent in Italian to take the driver's test or you lose your freedom of movement. That was a deal-breaker for me.
