Thank you for another great video. One thing that has helped me repairing inaccessible liquid damage in the past was soaking the whole board in distilled water and/or isopropanol and drying at higher temperature (only if soaked in water, obviously). It's a little bit of a "hail Mary" but you could try this before you throw away the fan.
@retroradar_de2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a nice solution but you never know how long it will last. I think Steve wants to resell it so to make sure it never overheats again he has to swap the fan. The risk is just too high to damage more parts overheating.

@@mbob4337 That's what I don't get, people fear opening their non-fuctioning device that they're going to toss in the bin anyway? Like, what are people afraid of, making something that doesn't work worse? or are people just afraid it's going to straight up explode/electrocute them?
@renanroman42312 жыл бұрын
@@8-bitsteve500 I guess the biggest issue is that people are afraid that they will violate the warranty if they try to repair themselves a somewhat working product. Although with this PS5 I'm really not sure why the original owner didn't at least send it to a repair shop (like, what did they have to lose?). The PS5 turned on and shut down claiming to be overheating, either it's a problem with the fan (which is this case) or with the thermal paste (which wouldn't happen if someone spilled a drink either way). If it was iquid damage in the motherboard, the PS5 wouldn't have turned on at all. It's just nuts how some people have trouble with 1+1
@unitedfools34932 жыл бұрын
With any liquid metal that I've used on PC, dryness has resulted in a lot of performance loss - although it may be a compound with different properties on PS5. It's often formulated with benchmarking or the highest performance in mind and doesn't last very long. The longest lasting I've found is Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra (not to be confused with Extreme or Pro which do not last as long). It's cheaper than Conductonaut while almost performing as well.

Someone probably was mad at the owner and sprayed water into the fan area when it was off or something. Any liquid hitting the fan would stay with the fan when the console is off more than likely if it was contained to just there and not the motherboard. (Just guessing, I could be completely wrong)

Oh man, that sucks that you can't somehow hot cut the plastic off to get to the fan parts or do something to get access to it. However I'm more impressed they manged to accidentally get liquid into the console. But while the fan seems to be the victim, the motherboard seems safe from it which is good. Pretty sure if something gets into a XSX it's not only going to ruin it, but go everywhere.
