The very first big project you will want to tackle, if it hasn't already been done, is swap the plastic coolant pipes under the intake manifold with alloy, as the factory did in later years. The plastic pipes will crack, leak and finally fail entirely. The added insult is coolant will leak down to the transmission, find its way to the torque converter oil seal, dry up, crystalize and then shred the seal. It is a common failure. It's only a few quid to buy the seal, but you have to drop the AISIN transmission to do it. Not fun. It shares this transmission with a Toyota Land Cruiser and is otherwise bulletproof. Early units have had some balky shifting which can be resolved with a new valve body. Not a terrible job. Anyway, alloy coolant pipes or...you've been warned. The insulation on the short wire patch cable to the headlights and those inside the lights are biodegradable. Greens will be happy, but your battery will freak out. The exterior wires are available for swap. I re-insulated the wires inside the headlight with marine grade shrink-wrap. No problems since. There are also two plastic coolant tees unique to the Turbo to feed coolant to the turbos. They are in a very awkward spot to get to but can be swapped out with alloy tees from jagsthatrun.com. Cheap insurance, but a pita to install. There are several other common gremlins attributable to the use of plastic tees for emissions and brake vacuum, and the coolant expansion tank. Hmmm... German car, so all of the coils will fail at about 100K miles along with the fuel pumps. The later can be swapped directly with less expensive Touareg units. The rear gas struts for the hatch & glass will also fail, and should all be replaced together. Keep the cowl drains clear or water ingress will result in electrical gremlins. If your electronics start acting up, check under the front carpets for corrosion of the inexcusably unprotected splices you find. Clean, re-solder and shrink wrap. Valve cover seals are more challenging than they ought to be due to tight access of the bottom bolts closest to the firewall. Contortionist required. There is a tensioner bolt for the cam chain on the right front of the engine that likes to back out and leak oil everywhere. Snug that up. Some day, the driveshaft carrier bearing will come loose from its support rubber. The bearing is fine, the rubber has failed. Google "Jimmi-fix cayenne" and you will find a long lasting $5 solution to the problem, or pay Porsche $1000 for a new driveshaft that will eventually fail again. The PCV and intake manifold boost check valves all use a rubber diaphragm. The PCV diaphragm and spring can be replaced through third party sources. Here in the States, I used FCP Euro for the check valves. They all fail eventually. Failed check valves blow boost pressure from the intake past the PCV and into the crankcase. Oil leaks ensue. A torn PCV allows excessive amounts of oil vapor to be sucked into the intake manifold off boost. If you have an oil consumption problem, look to these items first. Also, at every oil change, open the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler right where it meets the intercooler, on the left-hand front of the vehicle. It is one quick release, undone with a screwdriver, takes a minute. A few tablespoons of oil will dribble out. Burning oil excessively will, over time, kill your catalytic converters. Early in my ownership, I had these problems, and struggled to pass California emissions testing, addressed the issues, then tried some miracle cures in a can and good to go ever since. Again, an ounce of prevention here is worth a pound of cure.

Just did the coolant tubes on my 2005 with only 40k miles. I have owned it with a small collection of cars, and did not hesitate to continually upgrade it with carbon Fiber bits, Fabspeed cat by-pass pipes, and I keep it looking like new. It never ceases to I,press me, and although I have a low mile 2008 Turbo, I still really enjoy dividing mileage with the 2005 S. They are perfect vehicles in so many ways, and are worthy of continued maintenance as the style is timeless, and the quality is very high.

Thank you Andrew! It’ll definitely be an all-round upgrade in many aspects compared to your E53. You’ll just have to factor in the obvious higher running costs/parts/fuel consumption, but it’ll be definitely worth it!

@NathanMannin
@NathanMannin Жыл бұрын
I believe you’re referring to the 957 generation which was introduced in 2007? 2006 was still the 955 generation. I wanted the 955 pre 2006 because of the lower tax band, and because I prefer the 955’s styling, and of course it’s the most relevant to the series I’m doing.

@@NathanMannin I'm not sure, I'm in US. The 07 is the year that doesn't exist. I have a 06 Turbo S, 955. 08 is the facelift. I do like the front end better on the 957 though
@NathanMannin
@NathanMannin Жыл бұрын
@@anonymouse7074 Ah maybe it’s just the UK where they introduced the 957 in 2007. I wasn’t aware they made any changes to the 955 in terms of reliability, then again I am still a novice in terms of Porsche Cayenne knowledge! All I know is that the Turbo S 955 only ran during 2006, maybe they had better reliability than the other model designations? I definitely agree on the 957 being the much better looking car, with all it’s additional angles and curves. Just something about the 955’s classic and outlandish looks which do it for me!

Hello! Unfortunately I haven’t been able to record a reading of my mpg yet as I haven’t had a chance to really drive it! I should be getting my car back this week. Once I get my car back, I will be doing a fuel economy video driving normally. When I picked up my Cayenne, I did see under 20mpg when just driving around town.

As far as i know, the 3.2 and 4.8 are different generation cars... maybe you are thinking of 3.2 and 4.5 or 3.6 and 4.8, which are the same generation?
@robertandrews6555
@robertandrews6555 Жыл бұрын
Ive got a 2009 957 3.6, so thats a 957 generation 1 but facelift model. performance is adequate contrary to interweb assumption 🙄🙄, its got a heavy throttle pedal though which i think affects peoples opinion of its performance, but press it hard n use the sport button and double tap the throttle leading up to corners and it downshifts 1 or 2 gears depending on speed...... it wakes it right up 😉😁😁 (the gearbox adjusts for your style of driving, and and can make the car feel either lazy or frantic depending on how you drive, resetting it makes a massive difference) , mpg around town is 18/20.... Have seen 27/29 on the motorway, i went out of my way to find the rarer 3.6 and haven't regretted it for a second, owned it almost 5 years now its fantastic.

@@NathanMannin don t listen to these people. The 955 turbo is the most reliable cayenne model from the 2000's . I got one with over 350000 km and, to be fair, other than the consumables, oil , filters, service componets, and a few things that falled here and there, like the spark plugs, brake disks, and some senzors, the car didn t experienced any major flaws. Of course, those things that i just mentioned above are still to be acknowledged, but are not that expensive to fix, plus anyone who wants to mantain his car in a decent condition, needs to take care of this little problems.

This one looks mint and sounds like a good example based on that "reluctant to let go" story all you Brits love to give but then still sell the car. So, not so reluctant after all. I just bought 955 Cayenne S with a ruined engine (but it had the interior you like) and sold it for parts and there is also a cheap one of these on my local market but despite the juicy outlook of a 331kw super-SUV, I am none too excited about the probable mechanical issues a bargain basement example might entail in it. Cool video but I would cut the shit like opening up every cubby hole (unless it is something interesting people might not know about), showing ashtrays and original Porsche medkits. Instead, try to cram in as much what you deem really worthwhile showing thus cutting down the empty video time & give a little test drive to the people instead. As you may take a gander, I also have a shitty YT channel & I am working on the same aspects. Ask yourself: "What people want to see in a video?" For me, the answer is that people either want to be entertained or learn something new.
@NathanMannin
@NathanMannin 2 жыл бұрын
Hello JJ! I really do appreciate your honesty and I understand my presenting style isn’t everyone. I’m just very intricate about things I love including in my videos, however I will take your advice on board and see if I can improve. I think the reluctance of having to let a car go is very circumstantial and dependent on the situation really, such as unexpected bills, loss of job, etc. It’s an excellent car and has exceeded my expectations, coming from someone who doesn’t have much love for SUV’s too!
