Very cool grail! Thanks for sharing. I just picked up a 34mm 1995 Air King with some beautiful patina on its naturally silver dial giving it an interesting sunburst effect. It'll be my last watch I get for a while because it was a relatively big purchase for me. The Air King is also my birthyear watch which makes it all the more exciting. It has a engine turn bezel too which is pretty neat :) Awesome seeing you also get a vintage Rolex and uploading the video the day after I got mine. Enjoy and wear in great health Adrian!

I saw my grail watch quite quickly after i got into watches around 3 years ago. I thought i would never be able to afford it. Now i bought the watch a couple weeks ago and it's absolutely stunning. It's the Omega Aqua Terra 38mm 2017 version with black dial. Don't want any other watch than this.

That's a great place to be in. I had that after I bought my Longines Spirit 37mm; coupled with my Sinn 356 Sa these are my only go-to watches in my small collection. Tried a few and quickly consolidated my tastes. No more splurging on watches!

Adrian you have fantastic taste. I love this watch for the same reasons you noted, vintage, patina and a rotating bezel. No quick set is a bummer, but i have a 6694 from 1966 with same issue. I keep it in my rotation to minimize the pain of setting the date. well done lad!

Enjoying this channel more and more. Glad you're covering watches that aren't out of the reach of mere mortals. Regarding grail watches, I've come to realize that it's best to handle a watch in person before allowing it to become a "grail" piece. Otherwise you end up dreaming about something, only to be disappointed. Kinda like your Royal Oak Jumbo video. PS. Your 14270 obsession led me to look at Explorers and I bought a 114270. Completely happy with it. Cheers.
@Iuckylukey10 ай бұрын
I think I understand what you mean about the "affordable grail" - for me its often a vintage piece, such a watch I may have desired as a teen (Brosnan's wavy dial blue Seamaster) which I recently got and lov . On mission in Iraq in the 90s I picked up an Omega Seamaster Polaris (titanium and gold) at a local market and it never worked so I threw it out - but I loved its lovely shape and will get one one day, the XL version with the anadigital display. Another digital grail I recently got, a vintage Breitling Aerospace from late 90s, super light digital and the ultimate airline pilots watch at the time. All these watches can be had for around 2000$ and are really cool. I guess once you start getting beyond the conventional must-haves, such as modern Rolex or Omega, you dare to explore your deeper and more quirky desires, and thats why they are grails, it the sense that you need to complete a collectors journey and personal transformation before are able to buy what you really appreciate and follow your true emotions. In your case it may be cheap but authentic quartz army watches, and not that gaudy Root Beer that you only keep as a trophy but don't really love.

I bought two watches off eBay and their authentication process was flawless. They not only validate the watch but also the bracelet or strap. It provides protection to the buyer and seller.
@MPD9010 ай бұрын
Your assessment that it was flawless is based on what? That the seller sent you what you wanted? Cool, the seller was flawless, what did the authentication service do for you?
@bigmacdaddy123410 ай бұрын
@@MPD90 It was based on my two experiences. For the first watch, the seller sent it to the authenticator and upon examination, they called me and notified it was not authentic and reversed the sale. That saved me from getting stuck with a fake watch and trying to get my money back. For the second watch, they called me and said the watch was authentic but not the bracelet and asked me if I still wanted it. I accepted that because I didn't mind getting an aftermarket strap. Flawless transactions on both counts. I will def buy more watches from eBay again.

I’m a space nerd and watch nerd so naturally I love the Speedy! My favorite vintage reference is Neil Armstrong’s 105.012 as well as most Apollo astronauts 145.012. Just classic Moonwatch Professional with patina lume, lemania movement, first with twisted lugs, etc. My other favorite is the neo-vintage 3592.50 odd-ball that had hesalite crystal front with tridium lume, but sapphire caseback, the best of both worlds!

Hey Adrian, good timing on this video for me. I just bought my affordable grail about 3 weeks ago and it is very similar to yours. I bought a 1976 (birth year) datejust steel and yellow gold with a fluted bezel. I bought a Wide Boy dial which are a bit less common than the standard 70s datejust dials. I'm not use to watches under 39mm but I really like the way the 36mm wears. Great video!

Beautiful piece, the character is beautiful. Very much relates to my 37 mm 1966 Omega 165.027 and 1968 135.027, also somewhere between sports and dress. The emotion you feel for them is more powerful than for 2024 pieces. In particular - in my case - if those pieces date back to childhood years and bring up all the memories, emotions and dreams from one's childhood. So yes, a scratched 1967 Speedy 321 matters more to me than a 2024 Richard Mille piece that is emotionally a dead object.

As soon as this video started playing, my head said Turn-O-Graph. I recall you mentioning it years ago, it’s a grail of mine also. I've always loved the Turn-O-Graph, especially some of the final generation because at a glance its just a normal Datejust with a fluted bezel, but the shocks of red gave a hint to something a little more special, also the fluted bezels are surprisingly easy to grip and rotate. Congrats on the new purchase! Love the relieved numbers on the bezel too, bit of a preview of what would come for the Yacht Master too, i guess a lot Rolex's present day models owe a lot to the Turn-o-graph :)

I wasn't smitten by the Moonwatch bug until the latest iteration came out, which for me was a game-changer. The cleaned-up dial, tapered bracelet, 3861 movement -- all of it together makes the watch real standout. Seems like it might suit you, though I'd bet you'd go with the hesalite.
@michaelservetus534010 ай бұрын
When I sold my First Omega in Space Speedmaster on eBay, I was required to send it to the authentication center in Dayton (if I recall correctly) rather than directly to the buyer. It was apparently something eBay required on its own because I know it was not something I had arranged as a seller. When I bought my 3861 Speedmaster on eBay, it also had to go through authentication and that was also not something as a buyer that I had requested in any way. It arrived with the red paper underneath the case and attached to each side of the strap, but I was able to easily slip off the red paper without tearing it and could have easily slipped it back on. I'm all about the vintage Datejust and always will be, but for me it's got to be the engine turned bezel.

In terms of Speedy suggestions, I just bought an absolutely mint 29 year old MK40 (3520.53), which is utterly stunning, very unique for a speedmaster and at 39mm right up your street Adrian. That said might be a bit too colourful for Captain Boring! Luckily there’s also a black and white version (3520.20). And if you buy a pre-1996 version of either of those models you’ll get tritium lume, which has an incredible natural patina. I’m also keeping an eye out for a vintage 3592.50 (also known as a De Luxe or Apollo XI) from the mid-90’s. These are your classic Speedy, but with a sapphire caseback showing off a stunning gilt 863 movement. Pre-1996 versions of these also have tritium lume that patinas beautifully. As for a more modern Speedy, I’d grab a First Omega In Space if I was you Adrian. It has Alpha hands like your Turn O Graph, is 39mm and has no crown guards, so again it’s a bit different to your average Speedy.

Glad to see you finally got that turn-o-graph after you mentioned it back in that video in 2018 - which I watched! I got my 1625 in a trade for my 3570.50 moonwatch a 3 years ago and never looked back. It has the classic stick hands but on a super rare taupe and sigma dial. I love that it is a date just but with a functioning ROTATING white gold bezel. How cool is that. I think its the best mix of sports and dressy. It’s usually on either a dark green Tropic or Bulang&sons Ripstop or distressed grey suede. Really anything goes. I’ve been on the hunt for a 7836 oyster bracelet as a sportier counterpoint to its original 62510H jubilee - and that is proving it to be a difficult find with the correct clasp code. But that’s really the fun of it! Thanks for reading this long comment.

The speedmaster is one of my favorite watches and as of this moment my only watch. I have the latest model with hesalite and that’s what I recommend.
