I’m sure you have plenty of ideas you’d do first and know that these take a long time, but are you planning on ever doing a video on eternal ring? It’s the only one in the king’s field-type games i really don’t know much about so i would be excited to see a video on it. I also know you have a playthrough but I’m holding off on watching that until i play it. Also, related to the actual video lol, for some reason i really like the vibe of this game. Not sure what it is but it’s very nostalgic even though I’ve never played it.

I saw a guy playing Popful Mail in a pawn shop, I stopped talked to him about it and bought that Sega CD and Popful Mail, lunar 1, sonic CD and Vay lol
@strider459 Жыл бұрын
Christmas 94 this was top of my list for sega cd to add to lunar and sonic cd I had. The game was not in any of my local babbages or electronics boutique stores. Unfortunately I got a 3do that year, what a hot mess that system was… would have much rather played this game and not have had my parents waste money on the 3do
@oof59923 жыл бұрын
I have only heard of this game because of a 3DS Hacked theme of Popful mail being so great.

Very good video Dave :) What's that song at 08:46 by the way?
@KitsuneJimmy3 жыл бұрын
The Japanese version is much easier since Working Designs (now GaijinWorks) liked to mess around with damage and item prices back in the day. Also makes the Lunar series a grind fest. Thank god the Unworked Designs patches exist.
@SuperDaveControl3 жыл бұрын
Woah, that’s fascinating. I had no idea! Is that true of their JRPGs too? (I used to love Lunar Silver Star Story & Albert Odyssey, so I wonder if they also got that treatment)
@KitsuneJimmy3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperDaveControl I don't know if they did anything major to Albert Odyssey, any gameplay changes from what I've seen reviewers say we're positive. Lunar Silver Star Story has a unwork patched created by Supper, and from what I've read the PS1 version of Lunar 2's gameplay is mostly untouched. I don't understand why Working Design had the habit of messing with stats like that. Maybe had something to do with game rentals.
@jbailey6902 жыл бұрын
@@KitsuneJimmy you're only referring to the PSX versions right? I've played both & greatly prefer the Sega CD originals but was wondering if it applied to them as well

I like that the first main character is a female elf who uses a sword, I feel like too often elf = magic/ranged weapon. And I'm just sayin', but she would totally have made me (even more)gay if I played this as a child.

You can thank Working Designs for artificially raising the difficulty intentionally, most of these bosses are very easy on the Japanese version and the early ones barely do much damage so long as your armor is up to date. It's only near the end game do the damage actually starts to get serious, which just means on the US version it gets borderline impossible by that point If there's one thing that gets me it's how Working Designs decided to not do a direct translation of the original script but a loose one, all while adding in western jokes and references. This takes place in a high fantasy setting, you can't mix it with elements from the real world, it's just not believable even for the sake of comic relief Gaw is certainly stronger, but slower. Given that this game takes an average 4 to 5 hours to complete, using Gaw for too long will just drag out the game longer than necessary If possible, players should get a copy of the Japanese version, it's easier and much more friendlier to play with, and it has superior voice acting too. If you look up Melissa Gulden, she's only got 5 credited roles, compare that with a legendary voice actor like Megumi Hayashibara who's got hundreds of roles under her belt throughout 4 decades, the differences is day and night (ok to be fair this game was released in '94, and she had only been in the business for a little over a decade back then, but her success in the '80s rapidly shot her up to the top at record speed, so time wasn't really an issue)
