So new to bolt action style 22LR, I'm looking at CZ 457 American Synthetic or a Varmint MTR which is about $310 more but you get the better barrel and stock. I will probably upgrade the stock in the future. Thoughts on how they shoot (MTR better barrel) as you have had some experience with both (your buddy has the MTR)...

Great video I just purchased this rifle to shoot beginners class NRL22. To start with I'm 80 years old have never tried this and my questions maybe dumb. Unboxing it I see the molded in sling attachments should they be removed as they may interfere with a shooting bags, my first though if not how would you attached a bipod and what brand? I purchased the following so far: DIP Extended magazine catch, DIP 25 MOA picatinny rail, Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6x24x50 in need of scope rings, any thoughts? Any other thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful. It would be great if you did a video on your wife's build for us beginners.

The sling attachments can stay on the stock, they shouldn't interfere with a shooting bag. You can mount a harris or harris-style bipod to the stock via the sling mount as well, this is the easiest and most cost-effective method. Everything you've bought it great; look to something like the vortex pro-series rings for the mounting.

@@Womfat I purchased a picatinny rail and MDT scope mounts after mounting the rail and scope I found that the bolt interferes with the scope mount base and won't clear. What scope rings are you going to use on your wife's build?

Hi Womfat, so I have a CZ 457 MTR, I want to upgrade the sling stud bipod mount to picatinny so I can mount an Atlas, any suggestion on the rail? I don't want to modify my stock tho...

You'll have to modify the MTR's wood stock slightly to put a pic rail on it. You'll have to drill into the wood in order to attach a rail.

Nice to see your wifey enjoying shooting. Most husbands aren`t that lucky. Sometimes i forget how lucky i am to have a wife that has been shooting next to me for the past 50yrs. I guess i over look it sometimes because we`ve been hunting, target shooting together for so long that just seems normal, to me. Happy wife, happy life. No time for unhappiness.

Nice rifle. What ammo have you tried with it? How does it group with CCI SV and other affordable target ammo at 50yds?

We've been using mostly SK and Eley just because I have a lot at the moment. Both our 457s seem to shoot affordable ammo fairly well, including CCI SV. I like to use mid-range ammo in matches because of the tighter ES and SD, like Eley sport/club and SK standard plus/rifle match.

I don't shoot CCI SV very often at the moment. I shot a few strings of it in each barrel and seems to be similar, around 3/4" groups @ 50 with some occasional flyers

Well done Womfat, it is not always easy to pull that one, I wish my wife had some level of interest in the sport too. I also shoot CZ rifles in my club here in the UK, and they are really accurate, I think she will enjoy it a lot, specially because most women shoot better than us, so she will be amazed with her results with this rifle....want to check some range footage later on, congrats.

Mine 457 has unequal gap between barrel and front forend, how about yours?

I noticed mine does too, I verified it was the stock that’s slightly bent, not the action/barrel. It doesn’t bother me as it’s purely cosmetic and it still does not contact the barrel at all.

Could it be something to do with the polymer stock? I have a hunting rifle (Schultz & Larsen) with a synthetic stock and that has the same unevenness, yet shoots incredibly true. Maybe there is a point in the molding process where the stocks haven't set entirely before being stored that lets them droop to one side before setting for good. I dunno, man.
