These for me represent the epitome of "grace, space, pace". A proper fast Jag. Understated, effortlessly smooth and yet stonking performance on demand. I had an XFR for several years and the 5.0 supercharged motor is just epic.

@@jp3630 Combination of factors. Retirement made it hard to justify keeping it when we needed to go from three to two vehicles. Having had Jags for 15 years I still hanker after another of some kind if funds allow.

I've had mine for 3 years. Almost identical but a hard top. Other than brakes, tyres and a buckled wheel, it's been bomb proof and ballistic in equal measure. Everyone who's ever been in it, loves it, and I get let out at junctions as well. It actually makes me drive like a grownup... Almost.

Great video Matt & not surprised your keeping it.

I got a new XF Portfolio 25T in 2018, using my son's JLR discount. The deal was too good to turn down. No deposit and £298 per month for three years, then a £22000 balloon payment. I am on the cusp of 20000 miles and haven't had any problems, except for a recent battery. Hardly used through lockdown and hospitalisation for heart surgery!

@@AWMJoeyjoejoe You're right. I'd still like an XK as a toy though. Been watching a couple at trade auctions and wondering if I could justify a neglected one as a weekend project car.... (Am I mad?). The Lexus I went for is a GS250 F-Sport with ML Audio and all the toys. Full Lexus history so still under the Relax warranty until mid 2024. It absolutely annihilates everything else I've ever owned including a couple of very nice XF's a Range Rover and a black edition A6. Could be quicker at just 215bhp but that's my only complaint.

Hurrah about time! I bought an XKR 5.0 Coupe based on your last video. I've had it 18 months and love it. I agree with all your observations and comments etc, except; I get 27mpg average. I've driven mixed pleasure and business, and on a run I get 30 mpg on dual carriageways and motorways. If I drive it like a hooligan I get 15 mpg. But it averages up really easily when used with respect. I've had to fix more things on it than I have on my CLS 350 in 10 years, but most have been simple DIY and nothing in the last 12 months. I love German cars; they are superbly engineered, but the Jag is finely built, maybe not superb, but it just has that "Je ne said quoi"

I love it Matt, oozes style. My (late) husband a Jag lover, his last company car was the new XF (had to go back for a recall 🤪). We had a 3.0 2007 V6 S Type, the car drove lovely, not great mpg either and £500 rfl per yr. I always felt as you have identified some areas of the interior let the car down, though this was the Ford ownership era. Continue to enjoy buying the cars you love as life is too short.

Great choice! Have been thinking convertible V8 GT’s myself & reckon this, or the previous XK make a lot of sense! 500 SL was also a consideration, but ABC suspension issues would scare me off using it for long road trips & older jags don’t get the ‘mean streets’ image problems like older high-end mercs either, the jags just look like ‘old money’.

I currently have a 2010 XKR 75 coupe in Stratus Grey. A limited production run of 75 cars only, 50 exported to the southern continent as left-hand drive and 25 only remaining in this country of which this is one. Truly great cars of which this is my second XKR. I just wanted to reassure anybody contemplating buying one that whilst nobody could truthfully describe it as a car you would buy for economy reasons. The MPG figures MATT quoted are a little pessimistic on both XKR’s I’ve owned 20 to 23 mpg locally is easily achievable without trying too hard and 23 to 27 mpg on a run. which with this performance I don’t think it’s too bad. Get one they are bloody marvellous!

I have had my 2011 Base XK for 8 years. I use it mostly for long road trips and weekend drives. I try to keep the running costs low by doing as much of the maintenance myself that I can. On a recent 700 mile road trip, i averaged 25mpg, which is pretty close to what i get in my Subaru Outback. Make sure the differential fluid gets serviced as well... the XKR has a electronic clutch, and that often gets skipped. After 8 years of ownership, I have looked around for a replacement, and it is hard to find something with comparable performance, looks and comfort. Enjoy the Jaaag!

I’ve had a black 2014 N/A XK coupe for 3 years now, I’ve had zero issues. Excellent cars, great to drive and look fantastic. I agree about the post 2011 facelift, the side vents and LED lights look better.

A great choice for a Jag fan like you. Totally agree it is a gorgeours looking car probably one of Ian Callum's best designs - he should receive a knighthood for the Jaguar's he's created! That supercharged V8 engine sounds amazing and I imagine its a delight to drive - we should make the most of cars like this before the souless EV's take over!

Matt, the reason that oversize plate looks out of place is because it doesn’t fit the plinth properly. Try taking it off and shaping the corners with a file and wet and dry to match the profile inside where it mounts, it will look a lot better.

Has a 2005 SLK 350 for over 13 years now . I have to say if we were ever to swap it , it’ll have to be for the XK-R . No other GT offers the looks or performance for the money. Great buy , keep it and enjoy!

Great. I've had an XK 5.0 naturally aspirated since Feb this year and I've never thought 'this could do with a bit more oomph'. I get close to 30mpg on the steady motorway runs I normally do. And yes, get rid of that rear plate.

So very quickly - granted this may not matter to you, as you’re on the other side of the pond but here’s my two cents worth: The Jaguar brand is every bit as desirable as the Maserati brand. At least in North America. Here they are seen as exotics, and even your basic XJ or XK here is probably a very high British specified car, which helps with the appeal. I grant you, an XE or X-type, while much loved “out in the wild” is still very much of its class, the only way a Maserati outclasses a Jag is in rarity. And naturally, I have to say: Nice Jaaaaaaaaag

I had the 08 XK the 4.2l model and that was class. So I'd imagine the xkr is wonderful. Got admiring glances everywhere. People love them. Classic shape. Lots of power.. Handles well. Great value for money.

Matt, sorry, meant to include previously if you’re going to keep your XKR and you want to get rid of a lot of the twitchy Spinney rear end issues. Go to the expense of getting the Michelin Sport 4s’s Fitted ASAP. (Aprox £1,200) Because they were already on the cars when I bought them, the two XKR’s I previously had, one with Pirelli Pzero’s and one with Dunlop SP Sports. The tyres were just not up to the job and in even slightly damp conditions such as you usually have Oooop North! made the cars much less enjoyable to drive.

I do like the XKR, I had the earlier shape model for a few months, lent to me while the owner was abroad, I did enjoy the experience, Great sounding engine with the supercharger whine, but it drank like Oliver Reed! When he came to sell it, it was offered to me for five grand, which was a bargain at the time, but I could not justify the running costs. I do think the later model is better looking though.

Very cool Matt, I also have an XK and a Range Rover as do loads of us, perfect combination. That rear plate is not the correct shape, showplates have the correct one, it looks great with an oversized plate as long as it is the correct shape. Make sure you use winter mode!! SNG Barrett has those switches brand new half price, you can also get them in black which looks much better. Gearbox service and do the diff oil as well 👍. They are cracking cars but like any JLR product they love new batteries and keep it on a trickle charger if you aren't using it. They are generally very reliable. What a shame that the F Type accidentally killed off the XK, there was supposed to be a new version but the F Type was so popular when it came out the XK sales plummeted.
