mate you need to do these 'shoutouts' to sponsors at the beginning of the video. I might be the only one, but when you switch to talking about something completely unrelated to the car, I find myself just totally switching off by opening another window. Soon enough I'm totally distracted, and don't end up coming back to the video.

I'm with you on just walking around them. I recall a story of a guy who bought a 911 and then had one of those super-duper details done. Oh man this just made me so happy and so sad. My first ever car was an 05 330CI in gun metal grey which I owned from 2010-2019 in Toronto, Canada. I absolutely loved that car and it broke my heart when I had to sell it. Drove that beast through amazing sunny days and through winter blizzards. It never let me down! The 50-50 weight distribution really helped during winter but never the less I had salt bags in the trunk and winter tires. The only thing I ever modified was the stereo. Took it out and fitted an aux kit to the stock system. I miss that car dearly…..I guess it’s true, you never forget your first!

When I got married a couple of years ago, I could not bring myself to hire a wedding car. I therefore purchased a 1996 Oxford Green E38 735i for £1200. and sold it for a profit after the wedding. I fully agree that era of BMW' is the best, by far, and Oxford Green is the best colour. I also had an E39 530i manual a few years ago and concur that the 3.0 engine is stunning. I couldn’t agree more with your thoughts. We desired and appreciated those cars so much when they were factory fresh. Now that they are accessible we search for reasons to justify buying them. I don’t think we need a reason. It’s ok to buy what you love and enjoy it for what it is. Even if that means just looking at it and admiring the design. Cars stir our emotions and that’s what makes us human. Anything to make us feel good these days is worth having in my world. Even better if it’s got 4 wheels and an engine. Congratulations, superb car and gorgeous colour combination. An increasingly rare beauty.

Great vid. I completely understand. I love car design but I neither own a car nor have to a licence. & after buying car mags as a teen (100s) & now slavishly watching all the latest car videos on KZbin- I completely get the idea of just looking & enjoying the pure design of certain cars from a certain period. That era of 3 series is probably my favourite BMW. Although the new X1 looks- how do you say- Quality lol. I left school when the Lexus LS & MX-5 & BMW X5 first came out. They were heady days. People forget how revolutionary the X5 was in the day- not only in execution but also market acceptance that translated into not only big sales but also cash cows that enabled companies to not only survive but also thrive. Look at Porsche's balance sheet because they (quite rightly) made an SUV to pay for everything else. It would interesting to see a roll call of not only all the cars you have owned, but also the buy & sell figure stories to fill in the random mentioning of various cars in all of yr vlogs. Have you done a story on a MX-5? If not please do. I enjoy yr work immensely. Please keep it up. D

Well done, bloody nice cars these, but if you wanted a creak/rattle free one, you have to get the coupe (I had a 2003 325Ci that I sold about a year ago, and it was a great drivers car, and rattle free). You're right about not "needing one", I didn't either, but it was a nice thing to drive for the couple of years I had it (as a second car, daily was a boring SUV). And the hangar style shed - I'm totally with you on that, I also seriously considered renting a warehouse not long back (as my fleet is now up to 5, and only one can fit in the garage). I'm also with you on the 90's and early 2000's being (High?)"Peak Car", mine are from 1993 through to 2009. Cheers!

E46 coupe’s are great looking cars and they didn’t kill its good looks with the cabriolet, which in itself is often quite an achievement. We had a 330i Touring back in the day (and a pre-facelift 318i coupe when almost new); the earlier 318i had better steering feel, but the straight-six had a much better soundtrack, if it wasn’t as quick as I thought it was going to be. £3.5k is a bargain however - and probably better for being an auto 👍

What a beautiful car, there's nothing wrong with having a modern classic car, as you said Matt, they come from simpler times, no complicated electronics etc, I would keep the cassette player though as I have loads of cassettes and nothing to play them on now lol, I really like your idea of setting up a warehouse then buying and storing classic cars that you love, even if you didn't drive them, a kind of a museum for classic cars that one day in my opinion will cease to exist and when that happens, you could charge people to have a look around at the cars similar to the ones that they once owned or wanted but never had to chance to buy and just soak up the ambience as it were, I don't think it's weird to want to do something like this, we are all different and that's what makes us who we are.

Love it. Currently trying to find one myself. Running a 19 year old vw t4 and never a day without something sounding different or a new squeak or rattle. But I’m not wired up right too, love older cars. They just have more character and soul. Like a puppy who has peed on the floor. You are angry but just look at it and all is forgiven!

Sorry to comment on an old video. I remember being on holiday and the owner of the site having one of these with the green roof. I just fell in love with it instantly it looked so luxurious. I do love that green always wanted a car in it. Thankyou you for trip down memory lane ❤

I agree with everything you said. I sold a great example of the BMW 330Ci 2 years ago for £500 with no rust , no scratches,a new reverse gear, new water pump and belt, alternator, wheel bearings etc. . Do I regret it no. It was lovely to look at and drive with the roof down. Being 20 years old I started to get electrical issues. The windscreen fan heater stopped working on a cold winter night making driving home with a missed up wind screen very dangerous. The roof retraction motor then gave up the ghost so the cost of repair v resale value equation came into play. I now have a TTS coupe as a replacement, its faster and has no rattles or creaks.

Glad to hear the mention of the 406 coupe, I had the 2.2 diesel and it was an excellent car for me at the time. Same engine pops up in the Jags and LRs until 2015. Part of why I've considered the jag saloon with the same engine for my next car.

Always wanted a 330ci. The straight six makes a wonderful noise. I had a 320 Ci but always regretted not getting the 3 litre. I don't think you're weird. I'd do exactly the same. Great video Mat.

I drive a '04 330Ci six speed manual with 320.000 km so I have to deal with those inconveniences that you mentioned but in a certain way I love the fact of driving an old good looking coupe with it's good and bad things.

Love this model. I will be getting one some time soon, and like you, it will likely sit with a car cover on it, and now and then I will pay her some attention to clean. Maybe an odd blast on a warm summers day through the New Forest. Also 3.5k is an absolute steal for that colour combo! Love it.

I must say I much prefer seeing a spec like this than the usual black with red interior. You just know when you see red leather that its going to smell of expensive aftershave and have almost no service history.

A great review and I agree with everything you say - especially about the size (width) of modern cars. I have a Morgan which I have no identifiable use for which I drove for 1200 miles in the last year ... but I love it. Your BMW is from the the year I like best. We all need an irrational car.

The E46 is a brilliant car, the last good 3 series. You can DIY fix these with a Halfords socket set and they go on forever especially the M54 engine! 👍

I used to work in an upmarket used dealership in Johannesburg from 08 to 2016, I had access to hundreds of flashy sports cars on a daily basis and as I basically got to choose what I could use as transport home every night never gave much thought to actually buying anything for myself...until in 2010 a pristine, low mileage, perfectly maintained, zero comments on the Motor plan 2006 convertible, in white with all black interior, a full M-Sport pack, in manual came in and went on the floor...I spent all day looking at it, then on a beautiful summer night, took it for a long drive on the 120ish km highway loop around Johannesburg...I then spent all night unable to sleep... I drove it back to work the next day, went to see my manager and F&I manageress and bought the car for myself... I kept, drove and loved her until I sold her to leave SA in 2017... I still miss that car...everyone raves about the E46 M3 but I still reckon that the 330i is a much better and usable in daily use engine...BMW`s best!

I can relate to Matt's 330Ci as I had one which I bought secondhand in 2005. It was the final iteration of the E46 330Ci Coupe called a Special Edition with a 6 speed manual, tan Nappa leader interior and was finished in Midnight Blue. It looked fantastic. It also had a 6CD stacker and even a TV. Performance from that 3.0 litre inline six was smooth and powerful. I sold it in 2012 and bought a new F30 328i M Sport which turned out to be a great car but did not have the style of the 330Ci. I'm with you when you say that classic cars are not the same to drive as a new, modern car and many owners of classic cars are very nostalgic about their cars but if you want the latest and the best, then buy a new one.
