Only one girl ever spotted my watch in Fayetteville Arkansas. She noticed the IWC logo and said “that’s a really nice brand!” I thanked her and ordered my food. I doubt anyone will ever do that again.

Me trying to convince myself, my partner, my parents that my watch buying and trading hobby is just for investment purposes, knowing in the back of my mind that it is just an excuse to buy more expensive watches. From what I was told about the 50m water resistance is while you are swimming the motion of your wrist adds pressure to the watch thats way more than whatever depth you're at. It's not something they can really measure so it's good to have more than you need.

You were told wrong. So-called “dynamic pressure” does exist, but you are not physically capable of moving your arm fast enough for it to be a problem.

About that 50m / 5ATM / 5BAR designation: The best way to define this is “casual swimming.” And what is “casual swimming”? Simple. People who don’t go to a swimming pool more than once a week, who usually stay in the shallow end to splash around with their kids, who don’t use the diving board, who dog paddle, who like to wade in the beach or just cool off. That’s the sort of folk who can wear a 5ATM-rated watch without worrying about it. OTOH: if you swim as a regular form of exercise, if you indulge in water polo or like to dive off the diving board more than once a week, then a watch with 10ATM is more up your speed. If you want to wear a watch in a hot tub / jacuzzi, then a G-Shock or an ISO-6425-rated dive watch is recommended because they’re known to withstand high water temperatures.

The Apple Watch was what got me interested in watches. I’ve always had fossil watches growing up. But the Apple watch lead me down the KZbin channel of watch repair and enjoyment. So now I have a Marathon quartz and Apple watch. With the gumption of learning to repair my old broken fossils.

Some ppl dun get how much joy you get from giving joy to someone else and longer lasting joy for that matter. Taking joy is a side effect of anger and misery in a self perpetuating cycle.

My biggest piece of advice is to not let anyone bully you out of going for a badass dressy diver and wearing it whenever you want including with a suit. People wear apple watches to black tie events, you can wear your Sub. And yes you can even wear your Tudor Pelagos FXD with a suit, no one will bat an eye.

‘Mobile phone’ insurance is a scam when the term payments equal the value of the handset (EE, I’m looking at you). Just put the equivalent monthly payment in your ISA. Other than that, insurance is usually a good idea.

"frothing at the wallet" lmao. If 0% interest financing is available you should always take it. I will never pay cash for any item if I can just pay for it later and it costs me nothing extra. It's the same thing as saving up. Except now you already have the watch you don't have a choice.
