I had one of these in silver when they came out. There were very few options available aside from color in 2005. I believe the only options you could get were heated seats, sunroof and navigation. The aluminum tonneau cover was unavailable for a while due to a production issue so some had a credit instead. My wife managed to average about 13.5mpg when she commuted with it to work for a while but I could never get more than about 12mpg. Hard to keep your foot out of it! Overall, these trucks are really one of a kind. The regular cab for 04 and 05 are the same but in 2006 there was a refresh making it a 1 year run. The quad cabs were built in 2005 and 2006, both unique to each other with a refresh so only 1 year for each style. Essentially by just looking at the truck you know the year unless it's an 04-05 regular cab. I believe they only made 280 quad cabs in silver for 2005. Crazy how rare these really are.

I lived in Anchorage Alaska for 30 years (in the Carolina's now). While it's rear wheel drive, you can put studded snow tires on it and keep your foot out of it and get around town just fine. Throw a couple hundred pounds of sand bags in the back (optional) and you will be just fine. Get you some tire cables or chains for emergencies and you have yourself a nice truck.

I test drove one of the SWB SRT-10 trucks back around 2006 (it had the 6-speed manual trans), and was very impressed with its' go power! I've had 2 Dodge pickups with the V6 and 5 speed manual trans, and while they were decent drivers, they rode rough and got surprisingly poor fuel mileage (15-16mpg!) I now have drive a 2011 Dodge Durango R/T (with the hemi), and have been quite happy with the combination of good looks, nice ride, decent handling, lots of tech, and, of course plenty of grunt... and I get around 17/18 around town, and 23/24 on the highway-- as long as I feather-foot it!

@ixionn5634 жыл бұрын
@@drcruelty The dashboards in these don't shatter, they're not like 2nd gens. I do hear of the rare cracked dash every now and then. Most common interior issue is the blend door for the A/C. I have one of these trucks (not the SRT-10 just a 5.7 Hemi Quad Cab) from around the rest belt area and there is only light surface rust on the frame and metal parts of the interior. Honestly I would say these 3rd gens are about peak Chrysler quality in recent years, they're fairly well made and generally reliable, they can be pretty bulletproof if taken care of. My truck sees road salt every winter and the only major rust is on the wheel wells above the rear wheels, likely from rock chips. I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on these but these are all just mine. This could be a rust belt or flood truck possibly.

If you've ever watched a pickup being tested, it's like there is a bubble of air, filling up the bed and the wind just flows right over it. Negligible difference with the tailgate open or closed. I love this generation of Dodge trucks, pretty well made in my opinion compared to the majority of disasters Chrysler had put out over the years. I can almost guarantee that truck has a factory speaker amp bypass. The factory speaker amps in the 04-05 trucks with the Infinity 7 speaker system used a proprietary digital amplifier, apparently with a certain interface you can retain the front speakers but other than that it's not compatible with aftermarket decks. Interestingly the 02-03 trucks used a better amplifier in my opinion, which simply ran off the speaker level outputs from the radio and is compatible with aftermarket radios for that reason. I wonder how that factory subwoofer is wired in, does it run off another factory amp, or has it been ran off an aftermarket amp located somewhere else? Perhaps that Alpine amplifier is running the speakers as well as the subwoofer on two bridged channels. If the Infinity amplifier has been bypassed, you can tell by removing the glovebox, you will see a connector out of the original amp removed with a speaker harness connected to it. If I have one piece of advice for you restore those original headlight housings, the aftermarket ones for these trucks are garbage and fade after a year. I learned that lesson the 80 dollar way. Great video as usual JR, looking forward to seeing the R8 drive!

My buddy had a '99 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 with the Viper engine. That thing would absolutely roast the tires rolling at 30. I'm surprised this SRT wouldn't.

Definitely not the most hated viper truck between us owners. I sought out a 05 crew cab. Way better looking than the bug eye 06 front end. Quad cab = 6 witnesses when you lose a race.

Spoiler looks much better on the cover than the spoiler that attaches on the sides of the bed, much more usable too

Nah, they just rust. Trust me, mine were rusting after about 4 years. Bad paint coating or something. Also, I lived in a northern climate with snow and road salt. Paint started bubbling on rear wheel wells about 4 years in and had it redone under 7/70k rust warranty. 1 year later it came back and they redid it again but I think it was sloppy work from the dealer the second time.

It's quite amusing when you think if it. The Viper V10 started off as a truck engine, then they hopped it up to make it power the sports/supercar, and then they put it back in a truck. I think you'd call that going full circle...

One of my friends built one of these. He had a single cab, short bed 1500 (I think). Picked up a wrecked Viper when he got back from deployment in 2004, when he got back again in 2006 did the swap. Went fast/stopped poorly.

I sold mine less than a month ago for 13k. Mine was Black, clean, free of rust and only 110k miles. Sold it because it "can" tow and haul stuff but seriously not worth it. At a staggering 9.5 MPG with towing anything, i would tow my semi-small trailer with it and would drop it to anywhere from 5 to 6 MPG. This truck is good for 2 things: burnouts and getting rid of gasoline

Hypermile challenge when? Would be curious to see what 55 mph and coasting and drafting would do. Logically, next step would be a Volt performance test.
