Sony RX0 II can record 1000FPS video, too. It is slightly more expensive than RX100 IV used but smaller in size, contrary to what the video claimed. Compared to the footage I shot with my own RX0, I feel like the image quality of these 2 are similar. Also, these cameras can record 1080p high speed videos because their true resolution is 1,136×384 during the 1000fps recording instead of true 1080p.

The RX0II is hot garbage to use, I'm afraid. You're only getting a 2-4 second buffer for less than 720p resolution. And on top of that, it lacks a reliable remote to trigger recording start/stop. I've been playing with it for a couple days now and I desperately wish I had an actual camera rather than this RX0 II.

I can't speak for this camera specifically, but I know a lot of mobile phones that are capable of recording very high frame rates have on-sensor DRAM - which allows a lot of data to be dumped to memory quickly and then written to storage at a lower speed. Sony was the first to implement this into some of their sensors, so it makes sense this camera's sensor may have similar. It's worth adding that it's quite expensive to manufacture (at least in comparison to your bog standard sensor) and difficult to implement in larger sensors (due to latency between the sensor and DRAM) so that's probably why we don't see it as often anymore.

A9 have similar RAM stacked sensor, but with no slow mo mode, probably because it's fast photo cam, not video. May be something like A9s can be full frame slowmo in future. FS700 also had this pre buffered slowmo.

phones use AI to add artificial frames to make it look like high rate. If you are filming something that moves along a straight trajectory, it looks great. But when I try to film hummingbirds (they make about 70 wing flaps per sec), I can see that the frames are not there. AI can not reproduce the complex motion and instead it just looks blurry. That Sony ZV1 does the same thing and can`t record true 1000 fps

@@unreal_hummingbirds Some phones do. People have proven that with a bunch of LEDs flashing through codes at really high speeds and the crazy native speeds are tested to be true. (AI does not fill correctly into a random pattern of blinking LEDs) Most branding super slow-mo do 960fps and a few do 1920 fps at 720P. Then then all have AI software capable of filling it to 8 times the framerate, but it just looks crap for most cases so I always just use the highest native framerate. Sadly most new phones today lose the function

@@unreal_hummingbirds Watched a video when the Huawei Mate 30 pro came out. Would be really hard to find all these years later. But I clearly remember how the test was done, and I think the results are good enough to trust. And I don't think Huawei would tell us honestly they use AI frames in 9680fps, and to lie about 1920. Also these specs match the leaked datasheets of that sensor. (I might get a used mate 30 later this year just to use it as a highspeed camera and I could probably recreate the test)

I have this Sony camera and honestly the slow motion at 1000fps is more akin to potato cam video 240p. It captures video for very short time frames and the video is MOS. Save your money and buy a iPhone to do slow motion.

Forget the iPhone! Buy a dedicated camera that has real-world specifications in their engineering. Cellphones are nothing more than "convenient compromises" of several different devices they attempt to emulate. They can't perform any one thing with a level of performance any better than mediocre, (and that's with the most expensive ones!). The biggest thing a cellphone has got going for it is the "Big C" (Convenience). They can't even perform as good as a landline telephone, which should really be the strongest clue as to why they exist at all! CONVENIENCE, that's why. FWIW

Something to note, the Mk 4 does 1136x384 for 2 sec, Mk 5 and newer is 1,244×420 for 3 sec(probably closer to 4, though manual says 3) Also of note, Mk 6 and newer have a f/2.8 max. aperture, Mk 4 and 5 are f/1.8; high speed always needs tons of light.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro can deliver 7680fps, software interpolated. A lot of Android phones can deliver 960fps, some with software interpolated frames, some with direct 960fps from the sensor

@@bedemiller the Huawei phone have specialized hardware dedicated for the slow motion as far as I know. So it is delivered just as you record it, and with hardware level processing. Not waiting, less artifacts, etc. Just watch the reviews. It's not perfect, but it's usable

Intersting. I've never heard rx100 can do it. I heard people use rx0 as the cheapest high spead camera. It can be disassembled and equipped with a narrow-angle lens, external power, etc. I saw Chronos, it didn't look like a 4000$ camera. It looked like it is assembled in the garage. But the picture is not bad.

It`s not 1000 fps, it`s less plus AI added frames. it works fine for something moving in the same direction. But if you record a complex motion, you will see the missing frames.

It's legit, not interoplated. The resolutions is though, Mk 4 is 1136*384 for 2 sec, Mk V and up is 1,244×420 for 4 sec

Just searched a video of it, and it's just barely fast enough; like 10 frames per wingbeat. Needs a very high shutter speed still, 1/4000 probably.

@@bueb8674 yes i think your are right, even 1000 fps will not be enough to capture every position of the wing. They make about 70 flaps per sec. Which means you would get not much more than 10 frames just like you said

My Casio ZR-100 can also shoot at 1000fps and it only cost me $45 since I bought it used. It doesn’t have a record limit like this camera does but the resolution is only 244x64

sony rx100 nk4 I guessed correct because I have it, but I purchased it used back in Year 2018. I use also sony rx100 mk7, it also has 1000fps, but the maximum aperture is just 2.8, while the rx100 mk4 maximum aperture 1.8.

Which does 720p480fps for 0.5s, then interpolates to 960. Rx100 4 does 2s and Mk 5 does 4 sec true 960fps, albeit at what amounts to widescreen 480p

The phone is called Sony Xperia XZ Permium. Which still does better than samsungs 720p 960fps video on their phones. And you can buy it for like $200
