@@theonlyrobot the 3.5 was actually pretty damned advanced for its day, the power output is still nearly modern. I've owned like 10 3.5 Chrysler cars and they have all been completely fine and happy with abuse. Robert Newby Nothing from the era, Yuri from TheStraightPipes said that the V6 in this was more powerful than the Magnum V8 of the time. So it was probably the best engine they could put in it then. For me personally, I don't ever use the auto stick in mine. I just leave it in drive mode which is actually pretty fun to drive that way too. The transmission has hard bump shifts which gives you the feeling of latching a roller coaster up an incline chain track. Kind of like a stall converter which I love. I've had mine for many years. Even driven it in snow sometimes too! The 253 hp engine is a fooler. When combined with this Aluminium frame, and lightweight body, the motor is plenty and ample enough. Back in the day there was this stigma about the V6 being in it and still today. Folks let me tell you, this V6 is plenty. Doesn't need a V8. The tuned exhaust on it has it own melody to it. Majority of the time, I don't ever listen to the radio. I like the musical sounds from my exhaust. The only thing I wished it really had was a real stick shift in it not an autostick. I like to control my cars in their purest and rawest form. And no paddle shifters either. To me that's boring.

The 3.5L was a great engine, hugely underappreciated. Change the water pump when the timing belt is changed (every 80k or seven years), that's really all that it needs. I know of a guy who had well over 500k miles on his in a 300M. The transmission on these is fairly stout too, as long as it has the trans cooler. You may be interested to know that this 3.5L and it's smaller 3.2L sibling are very related to the notorious 2.7L that had a horrible failure rate due to oil sludge. The difference with the 3.2L and 3.5L is that they used a timing belt rather than a chain. The water pump is driven with the timing system, and the water pump was known to start leaking at 50k-80k miles. On the 2.7L it was especially problematic because the leaking coolant got into the oil, hence the catastrophic sludge issues. As long as the water pump didn't seize up and snap the timing belt (which IS possible, so change the water pump!!), the 3.2L and 3.5L were unaffected. If the 2.7L used a timing belt, they would have been remembered as pretty stout engines (I was a part of a Chrysler LH platform forum--there were several 2.7L owners with well over 200k original miles with just this solution). This family of engines was very smooth and powerful for the time. One of the few OHC engines back then that made decent low-end torque while still pulling strong up top. While people hated the fact that this was a V6, it was a damn good V6. IMO, the only real letdown of the Prowler performance-wise (I've never been in one) was the automatic-only setup. Four gears is simply not enough to be entertaining, especially back then when automatic transmissions REALLY ate up available power. If these were available with a 5/6 speed manual, I'd be all over them. Easily one of the quirkiest cars ever sold. I hear it's a blast driving down the road and watching the open front suspension do its thing!

I ordered one at a dealership in PA and another at a dealership in FL. Neither called me back, so I bought a new Corvette, instead. Hate to bust any ones bubble, but the 'vette was not much better.

@@Jackinfla1591 I seem to remember that my local dealer had a $3k availability fees for Dakotas with the 318 in it. The 90's were interesting for Chrysler.

@@Jackinfla1591 When I was a newbie at university flipping through car magazines in the engineering library, the 'vette was just trying to claw its way back from having become a "woman's car" with shaped fenders and a castrated drive train. In scarcely any time, it got priced out of reach of most guys who used to admire it - especially if you wanted the true muscle car packages right at the higher end.

When the prowler came out my dad worked at a Plymouth dealer, they had a viper and a prowler on the showroom floor and that prowler got a lot of attention, sweet car, and since it had a torque tube I heard someone had swapped a sweet 5 speed into one out of a wreck vette, some machineshop out here in rural indiana

This man knows cars like no one I know. Kinda like the Wayne Carini of Witchita. He wrapped up everything I wanted to know about the Prowler (and pitched a sponsor) in 10 minutes and change. He gives us a history lesson on virtually every car he buys. Throw in the humor and visits to Wizard makes it a well rounded entertaining channel.

I test drove a prowler about 15 years ago. It was low mileage, in good condition, and for sale by a local dealership. While it was fun to drive the front end was very light and did not inspire a lot of confidence. It is fine for cruising or straight lines but keep it away from the twisties!

I worked for the Chrysler/ UAW show in Las Vegas and was able to fondle the first prototype of this car. The nose of the car was off-camber so from the driver perspective it appeared that the nose was centered on the road in front of you, but it looked to weird to people and the production models were laterally symmetrical. I liked this thing more than a vett or any other muscle car of the time.

Tyler there's 2 things I've long waited for concerning the Prowler, #1 for someone to explain the "Mullholland Special Edition" & #2 for somebody to build a Prowler into a HOWLER, which was supposed to be the next edition but with a 392 Hemi & possibly a manual transmission, before the car was killed off. But anyway, the Prowler was Chrysler's "shits & giggles" mobile, for 1 of us old guys to take our girl out for ice cream on a sunny Saturday afternoon. :-)

One of the automotive shows back in the hey day of this car had shown a driveable concept car called a “howler”. It was a prowler with a v8. And the reviewers begged them to make it. Of course that sadly never happened. I still remember it. It was all black, chrome wheels and a deep v8 rumble from the rear as they carved up some mountain roads.

My mother had a '96 Dodge Stratus for way, way too long. A lot of those dash bits are 100% parts bin from those vehicles. The vents, radio and HVAC all look unsettlingly familiar. Like the feeling you get when you remember your parents splitting up.

2009 Pontiac Solstice, Hardtop convertible or Street Edition. Two limited number variants from the final year of Pontiac. Good options to add to the hooptie fleet, not over-priced and in my opinion unique and beautiful appearance that still holds up in 2020. I think there were only around 60,000 Solstices ever made worldwide from it's production run from 2006-2009 before Pontiac folded.. However for the hard-top variant introduced only in the final year, I think only around 1000 (or less) rolled off the assembly line, and the street edition was a limited edition variant which only 500 were going to be made but only around 125 managed to roll off the assembly line before GM closed the factory doors. Also there are a handful of 2010s floating around, GM production test vehicles, but those are ultra rare.

Sounds great! Just remove the plastic bumpers both front and rear, also get rif of the front fenders. And and paint it black! Also fit some decent exhaust pipes. Et voila, you got a lovely car.
